Massive gun with a huge heart....

Discuss :D

Yep. Almost won the game for us. Plus the run of half-back by Bizz. But Jones has the heart of a lion. An absolute champion with leader written all over him.

he had the yips with his disposal early but every mistake he made he threw himself into make ammends (so many others could learn from this)

thinking of him, petterd, bell and mclean was the only thing that stopped me from slitting my wrists

Yah. Seemed to be the only ones that play for the jumper.

It begs the question. Why does Bizz struggle to get a game, yet Ward and Brown are almost automatic inclusions everyweek.

Opposition teams actually allow Brown to get the ball, because they know he isn't going to hurt them with his use of it.

bizz does, mclean does

I said "ones" meaning plural lol more than one playing, or all the players u mentioned hehe

mclean does

Even when playing at 50% fitness for only 50% of the game, he still manages to amaze me.

The way he nearly won the ball on the wing against 2 opponents, and how he nearly broke his neck running backwards into the contest.

He bleeds for this football club, and if he is not appointed as our next captain, it would be a big big mistake.

Also, Jones plays a hell of a lot better when he has McLean there to take the heat off him.

We have found two extremely special players, and we should nurture them and help them become the stars that we've been looking for.

Jones was brillant today reminded me of Todd Viney the way he worked, and how good was brock considering the time he had out of the game, and I have to mention Cameron Bruce who in my eyes was BOG, i cant imagine why people think we need to trade him.

Posted

after jones kicked that goal that put us in front in the last quarter did you see how pumped he was agree nearly won us the game and when him and mclean are in the middle tthey make a deadly pair to play against ...

Posted

when you have mclean and jones in the guts, we just need that 3rd man in whole can break the lines, or has a dal santo like sidestep to finish things off, its nearly there

Posted

Love Nathan Jones, he will be a champ. He has much more polish than Todd Viney who was tough but was a crap kick

If we ever get a fit Mclean, Moloney, Macca and Jones in the midfield with Travis, Bruce, etc outside we will be hard to stop

Posted

Jones played well, although could have kicked straighter or more accurately to another player. He missed a fair few shots early in the game.

Posted

yep he did but every time he sprinted to the next contest to make ammends, name 5 others who do the same?

mclean, sylvia, junior and davey are about all i can think of

Posted

Ferocius attack on ball and man, reads the play well and plays the centre corridor, great footwork, rarely gets caught holding the ball when tackled, kicking is solid but can be improved though at least when he gets the ball his first instinct is to kick it long towards our goals.

I believe he's the epitome of Melbourne's ongoing woes as a footy club. Brilliant one minute, ordinary the next. Not consistent enough, makes silly skill errors when there's no pressure on him. I reckon a player like Bruce and probably to a lesser extent Green might have fairly good trade value because in my opinion they are fairly respected by other teams fans and the media in general, but to be honest, I wouldn't be frightened seeing Bruce line up against Melbourne in the future, in fact I can't wait for the day. Lets use Bruce in a deal to try and get a REAL superstar.

Jones is a very similar player to Todd Viney - in that he's a terrific scrapper and worker but is let down by a serious technical kicking flaw, which needs to be rectified, or his kick:handball ratio lowered, for him to become a great, not just good, player.

Posted

he drops it too high i believe, just a little bit lower drop pint would give him more control of his kicking, which when he bombs it, doesnt have the same hangtime or penetration of a moloney kick

Posted

Has been fantastic this year. Watching him and Bell get plenty of game time and racking up to disposals has been a highlight in a poor season. As usual with bad seasons, it's the kids that have been the shining lights. Jones, Petterd, Bell, Dunn, PJ, Sylvia, and Bate have all improved this year and are at least giving us something to look forward to.

Keep fighting Jonesy!

Posted

He also shifts his hand at the last minute and raises his eyes late which gives him an uneven ball drop. These issues are very hard to fix because it takes tens of thousands of kick repetitions to re-perfect an ingrained kicking technique. Toddy just had to become a more handball oriented player to become a gun, maybe Jones will have to do that, because otherwise he will waste a lot of his excellent ground work and run.

2024 Player Reviews: #36 Kysaiah Pickett

The Demons’ aggressive small forward who kicks goals and defends the Demons’ ball in the forward arc. When he’s on song, he’s unstoppable but he did blot his copybook with a three week suspension in the final round. 2024 Player Reviews: #1 Steven May

The years are rolling by but May continued to be rock solid in a key defensive position despite some injury concerns. He showed great resilience in coming back from a nasty rib injury and is expected to continue in that role for another couple of seasons. It was another strong season from McVee who spent most of his time mainly at half back but he also looked at home on a few occasions when he was moved into the midfield.
