Does he at least stop his opponent?  Always a place in the squad for a lock down key defender.

I think it would be safe to declare Jed a complete miss if not for the fact that The Club has given him a 2 year extension .Obviously the experts see something in him that Ive missed .He looks the part but never delivers. His greatest skill is his ball evasiveness  ; he can g a half without touching it .His inability to read the play and position himself accordingly is symptomatic of why Casey give up so many easy out the back goals .

I'd be training him in both roles. Same with Woewodin and Brown but differing roles. Their role in this season and the next is as depth. To be a good depth player you need a few arrows in the quiver. Perhaps training as a tagger or teaching players how to break even with a tagger.

On Jefferson if we dare I'd play him against the Eagles, put Petty down back and rest May. Unfortunately the Eagles game may well be the last chance saloon for the AFL side if we lose to Brisbane this weekend.

A big yes from me.

Moniz being groomed in a tagging role in particular to cover the likes of Daicos through the middle and when he wanders up the ground after the kick in all the way to HF.

Walsh another potential target for him here.

Yes to Jeffo vs the Eagles and Petty down back.   Even if it's just one match then back to Casey.

Explain beforehand that it might be the case.  You're not expecting miracles.  Just play your role but play it to your highest ability.

You get a brief look at the next level up and what's required in order to stay there.  You get to go back and work on the craft again, build the body and tank plus another pre-season before a bigger look in 2025.

And who knows, you might hit your straps at the level and surprise everyone and away we go for a fair chunk of the remainder of this season!

It might be his time to start shining.

Melk gets back towards his best in the next four weeks.

All of a sudden things start to click and we find a bit of mojo again and get on a roll.

Stranger things have happened.

Have drafted vfl players billing’s, Fullerton, schache, mcaddam time will tell & Humter best days are past him, this isn’t topping up your list to win another flag & not keeping Jordan… I grant it our recruiters have done well finding late picks and turning them into gems but the last 2 yrs have been poor

Demonsone our drafting is good, Windsor, Tholstrup, Brown and Kentfield, whereas the Trades are looking a bit uninspired McAdam, Billings and Fullarton but still time.

not sure that fantasy total is correct; vfl.com.au has it as 71

in fact, a lot of those fantasy / dream team totals don't correlate with official match stats: https://www.afl.com.au/vfl/matches/6475#player-stats

We’ve corrected Billing’s figure to accord with that of our source. It seems that from time to time, the statisticians check out before the end of the game😀

W_J how did we stay within cooee of North when they had 100 more disposals and nearly twice as many marks as us?

There's not many A or B graders traded each year and they do impact on drafting potential of similar quality. Hard to get wins in both areas. Except Essendon of course. 🤣

Time to look at our trading and list management. Not to bag Lamb, but he needs to pick up this part of his game

Drafting has been very good.

I think I’ve seen enough of Jeffo to place him in a similar category to Morris from Brisbane. If Bris had not had so many injuries this year, Morris would not of played until maybe next year. He was thrown in the deep end, and the better delivery into the forward line suited him. It’s not like he’s any bigger than Jeffo. None of these 2nd year kids are small - they’re all 90-100kgs. I don’t know how much bigger you think they should be? They all look to be confidence players - could just as easily transfer their form to whatever level is required.

had completely not thought about the 5 day break between the casey game and the afl game vs the bears

hard to see anyone who suited up this week getting promoted

I dont think AMW would care if it means he could finally debut, albeit as a likely sub.

Six MFC listed players with 8 touches or less. No wonder half our senior team is undroppable with so little pressure for spots.

The stats sheet is diabolical reading. How can AFL listed players hardly touch the ball against a C-grade VFL side?

Agree somewhat but top ups should be improving and didn’t address the first straight exits in 2 seasons, why let Jordan go we knew what we had vs Billings & Brayshaw was always a danger of retiring our fwd issues not addressed, yet playing JVR ruck instead of sitting at FF ti develop, were not winning clearances so use Petty etc

We didn't "let Jordon go" - he was a free agent and hadn't much game time at MFC.   I strongly suspect that had we known Gus was going t retire we would have made him a far better offer and been able to tell him that he would get much more game time.  Hindsight is so easy.

I'm not 100% against JVR playing in the ruck, not too much, but it is necessary in the modern game to have talls that can pinch hit there.  Luckily for us, he's pretty good at it.  Unluckily for us, there doesn't seem to be anyone else that can do it.

The question around Petty's form is a good one.  He had a limited pre season but the drop off here has been stark.

As for letting Jordan go, he didn't have a great 2023 and we don't have any insights as to what Sydney offered him - aside from guaranteed match time - so its hard to criticise the club for that.

Who else other than JVR would do the back up ruck work given that Fullerton who was supposedly bought to play that role doesn't look like getting a game?

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the
