no way

houston is one of the best ball users in the competition

callaghan is a good player, but houston is a two-time all oztrayan for good reason

Callaghan is still just 21 with only 50 games under his belt.

Callaghan has far more upside, imo.  Should become a superstar.

Is Callaghan wanting to come to Vic? If he's an option to extract from GWS, then we should throw the kitchen sink at him. He was previously a top 5 pick and has shown he was worth it, developing well in a stacked midfield. We should throw pick 5 without a second thought and potentially sweeteners on top. He's already a very good line breaking midfielder inside and outside particularly. He will be a star in future and only 21 years old.

Contracted until the end of next year and no signs that he’s unhappy. I expect over summer he’ll sign an extension until free agency Ie, 2029.

We should make him an offer (both now and for post 2025), the same as the Saints and half the other Melbourne clubs should. Doubt he’ll be interested though.

I can’t imagine there’s anyway GWS would trade him short of a stupid offer Ie. Pick 5, future first, steak knives and whilst he’s very good I don’t think that’s a wise deal.

i'm sorry but i just don't see it

houston is a much better ball user by foot, accrues more disposals, impacts the play much more...

personally, i'd like both!

don't see this as a knock on callaghan; more of an indication of how highly houston is as a player in my estimation

Fair points mate, your opinion makes sense but for me age is a major factor w/Houston and fact he has a kick efficiency of 67% career means he definitely fills need but we've moved off him after he baulked and our Pick became 5 and I'd definitely prefer pick 5 as I am infatuated with Josh Smilie and think he can be a genuine 250 game stud for us as a hybrid mid/fwd he has so much Power and aggression its uncanny!

But have always thought Finn was the ideal line breaking kicker we needed so maybe I am biased!

I am only going by that one story re Saints -- for me it feels like a pipe dream considering how highly rated he is but if Saints are having a crack we had better be as well...

Callahan is FAR superior to DH, not even close. Diff roles, age a factor in that also.

I don’t think we need a half back but sorely need a young pacy and strong mid to add in 2024 and for future years.

Think Dees can only really bring in max 2 players from other clubs   Want to keep 4 picks in this years draft

Yes to Peatling (if he was to leave GWS and we beat the other 5 clubs in the offer) Best offer is future 2025 2nd round to GWS

Yes probably to Parfitt (if he was delisted or if future 3rd round pick) , Derksen (if he was available for a pick the 50.+ range)

Not that keen but a possible maybe to Membrey (swap for Tomlinson) Matt Kennedy or Owies (For a future 3rd round pick)
Maybe but with a lot of due diligence: Malcolm Rosas (jnr)

No to … Macrae, Daniel, Ross, Taberner, Cerra, Ladhams, Jack Martin, Marchbank, Hind, Sam Day , Haynes, Stringer, Darling, Tom Campbell…

If we went with Owies, we could play Spargo on the non Langdon wing and play Windsor between half back and midfield.

Spargo has not got the tank IMO to play wing full time.
I also believe we fast forward The Duke ( Windsor) career by placing him in the centre.

He reminds me of Chad Warner in some way and hopefully he is putting on muscle. He from the centre and not wing would become a 20/25 plus goalkicker in 2025 and increase in the future.
His disposal is elite and I think he might be strong enough with a tank to star for us. Also attend stoppages at centre bounce !!

58 games in 13 years, 32 years old, delisted twice, we'd be his 4th club.

Jeezus, is this what we've come to! Is Fullerton a bust then?

Must surely be frustrating for Fullarton after a tough year. The difference perhaps though is that, in my view, Fullarton was taken as a forward/ruck option where Campbell seems to be more 'pure' ruck. Different roles maybe? Campbell also seems more likely the true Gawn backup in case of injury.

Of course in saying that, seeing Fullarton toil away for Casey for some genuinely good returns while Petty was allowed months to find form at senior level was surely as frustrating to him as it was to a lot of us supporters. So even with the different roles argument, the selection is still truly baffling.

Mate Fullarton’s appalling. The players have all been gobsmacked at his level in training. There’s a reason he didn’t get picked, no matter how injured or out of form others were.

Being given the flick from one organisation, like Campbell, desperate to get back into the game, believing you are still relevant must be frustrating. Don't you think?

Hopefully got a rocket in his exit interview, but not holding my breath that it'll do anything. The moment to step up was 12 months ago.

I wasn't aware of the playing group opinion, where did you hear that may I ask? I was only aware of his contributions at Casey, where I watched a few games in person, but more so on the live stream. From the outside it certainly seemed at various stages he was more deserving of a spot, on form, than Petty. We do seem to have a habit of picking the team based on training form though don't we?

On a player's family facebook account?

Interesting a number of lions posters have been wishing Fullerton was still there so he could play now that Big O is down.

At odd with what l read at the start of the year that he was flying before doing an injury ...

No smoke without fire, there's been more than enough out there to suggest Fullarton  isn't working out.

So it's not just his football that's ordinary?

That is interesting....he's probably wishing the same thing now that O is injured.

Who knows but it's not the stuff you want to hear. Especially about someone the club put faith in to fill a role like this.

So Derksen, Campbell and Owies

Good news is the value of our Future draft picks are sky rocketing!

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
