Windhager watch. 26 possessions (14 uncontested) at 89% efficiency. Plays hard. Runs hard. Has polish.

Should be our number 1 target. I hope we have a serious (but not ridiculous) offer on the table to try and jag him out off there. I am sure once NWM actually says he’s going home they will give Windhager what he wants but we should be doing what is required to convince him otherwise.

Hopefully with NWM signing an extension we are now going hard before they turn their attention to Windhager with whatever coins they find under the couch.

Crazy if true, they already have Tom Green and Callaghan as inside mids, and more who could play through there

Their midfield depth is poor. They have Callaghan, Green and the corpses of Cogs & Kelly

It'd be like us not trading for a young midfielder because we already have Jack Viney in the side

Or it'd be like us continually playing Viney and Oliver together who are both inside mids and can't play anywhere else. And Bedford is their run with player.

They also have O'Halloran coming up.

I am personally happy that he's sticking with the Saints. At least for now.

It's good for the game when smaller clubs keep their stars, and he is one hell of a star.

And it also opens the door to Windhager. I hope we're still asking the question.

Bedford has been phased out of their midfield. He hasn’t been effective in any way but hard tagging. XOH is getting more of a run through but isn’t a full time mid. You’d rather use him to cover multiple roles.

Leake and Rowston aren’t looking like genuine mids, at least not any time soon, they have a need and can probably straight swap him for Leek Aleer.

With this monster contract, the Windhager deal must be pursued hard now

i was going to say the exact opposite, from all reports he's super loyal, seeing his housemate commit and choosing to stick fat surely only encourages him to do the same not push harder for the exit?

Liam Ryan going to the Saints. They're becoming a destination club ahead of us...

There is a difference between "destination club" and a club throwing ridiculous coin at players til they say yes who are not proven worthy (TDK, Aleer) or passed their best (Ryan).

No place for logic here. This is Eeyore Country. Governed by the rules of MFCSS.

They have also offered $25m for Reid and apparently Liam Ryan is being said to be a lock and he will be about $1m a year.

If Reid comes and including King, that is about 50% of their salary cap on 6 players.

That could be a list disaster if form loss or injury happens, combined with disgruntled team mates.

Having all those 6, would leave less than $10m for the other 39 players, roughly $240k on average for each, which doesn’t seem to work, given the other list players we know of. Hill, Wilkie, Sinclair, Higgins, Marshall, Wood, etc are all on decent money.

I'd offer 4 - he has really developed this year.

With TDK coming in and Nasiah signing on, then I don’t see the Saints increasing their offer

It can turn you into a destination club if they start to succeed. We did it with Lever and May

That's an absolute insane amount to pay for Ryan. A deal like that is a culture killer and you really can understand why there would be grievances at the club, if that's accurate. Not too mention, it would completely throw their list 'build' out, as you've suggested.

I wouldn't be against Ryan being on a list, but good luck to St Kilda with that sort of offer. Bizarre.

Tis the Ross way. Bankrupt the club trying to pinch a flag, and then leave when it goes pear shaped. I hope it works for them this time; God knows Saints fans deserve one.

Don't get me wrong, it's great that NWM is staying at St Kilda, but don't tell me that he is staying for loyalty - he's staying because St Kilda have given him an absolutely massive pay day (and because he knows that neither Adelaide or Port can trade for him).

He'll be out the door as soon as his contract expires at the end of 2027 and he can walk as a free agent.

He’s not a free agent at the end of 2027

Was it 2M for two years?

Easy buck for him and he'll be free to go anywhere in just two seasons.

he still won't be a free agent at the end of the contract

in 2 years time he could be the firt $3m a season player if he continues currently growth trajectory

I have been wondering for weeks what it would take to entice Zane Duursma out of North. Is reportedly disgruntled with the club, as he is held back in the pecking order. Is a forward who can kick goals and can spend time in the midfield. He played 2 games for Casey in his draft year and still has vast amounts of potential to be a star.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
