I can see the Bombers using our traded pick with their own, to target Harley Reid.

They will make a play for him for sure. Whether Harley accepts it or not is another thing all together. It does help that he is good mates with Caddy.

WC are just [censored] (thankfully for us) that they didnt take our offer years ago. They would have gotten 2-3 gun players. Reid at this stage is very much looking like a bust and nowhere near capable of reaching the ceiling that he was reportedly capable of.

No way butters comes to us

This is the thing - we’re looking like the anti destination club

Would you want to come to us and train all the way out at Casey albeit the facilities are OK. Need a home closer to the city then we may get some players wanting to come but that is many years away if at all.

On the Agenda Setters tonight Caro first said that H Reid’s parents didn’t want him to go to St Kilda or Melbourne, and then a little later in the segment she said his parents didn’t want him to go to St Kilda or North Melbourne.

So I’m not sure if she meant us or North?

Would rather Max Gruzewski from the giants. I don’t want a swing man I want a specialist forward that will lead, launch at the ball, bang some bodies and kick straight.

Gruzewski is only listed at 192 he works next to cadman and hogan or even one of them and the irishman brown but him JVR and MJ have an average height of 193 thats just not gonna cut it in 2025. Look at who is dominating the next decade, Kings, Darcy, Cadman, Thilthorpe, Jamarra the shortest of them is 195 and the tallest is 200+. and then you have guys like Lobb, SDK, Zach Reid, Wil Dawson who are all huge too at the other end of the field, our guys just dont have the reach or leap like a Jack Riewoldt or Aaron Naughton has to actually get up and over a pack, JVR just jumps into them at best, doesnt get his hands above and MJ only marks them on his chest on his own (and even then he drops them)

Did anyone here the SEN clip on sunday night post game Finey i think it was basically said we had Max Heath the saints ruck who debuted two weeks ago on the hook done deal. Makes sense he'd want out given TDKs arrival, Dodsons VFL form and Boyd/Marshall on the list too.

I havent seen enough to have an opinion on him other than a 204cm guy at 22yo is good depth and has upside as a low cost option. Could mean the end for Verrall who at 199 doesnt really mark heaps of footy around the ground, doesnt really kick goals resting forward and also for TC who has had real body issues this year at 34yo as good a clubman as he is

new name to throw into the mix, i like what luke nankervis has done in limited opportunities at the crows, has been playing forward recently in the sanfl to try and get him back in the ones but his work at HB and on the wing has been fairly decent in my opinion... haven't actually gone to the stats yet

crom supporting friend said one of the big changes for them this year has been the likes of nankervis are NOT in their best side

he doesn't work hard enough defensively

This is almost the silliest thing I have read on Demonland and its a long list.

Yeah I picked up on this too. When it's been re-reported this morning, all the references have been to NM - though that's not to say that is indeed accurate.

If Darcy Wilson was gettable, I would absolutely be into him. In terms of what he would offer us, I see him as potentially being a suitable high HFF/midfielder who would be able to likely replace a lot of what we lost by virtue of ANB's departure. He could easily take Tholstrup's position, and at this stage I think he's on a better upward trajectory than Windsor (although I think he could actually complement Windsor quite well, from an acquisition and game-day perspective).

He's contracted for 2026, but I would absolutely be in his ear and planting the seed. He's one of the positives from the 2023 draft IMO.

A good runner who can actually hit the scoreboard and provide impact across the midfield and forward 50 arc!

I find it bizarre that we didn’t rate him higher with our second pick in 2023

Seemed to fit the bill as a speedy midfielder who can run for days

If we were looking to inject more speed into the way we play, he and Windsor would have been a great one-two punch

Get Kenny to the club in some capacity and you're a 2% of making that happen.

Good luck and god speed.

Essendon will prob have 3 picks in the first 10-12 (adjusted for free agency compo and nga)

Their pick, our pick and the likely Sam Draper compo pick.

They've had 4 rising star nominations this year, so think they'll happily trade 2 picks for Reid?

That could leave West Coast with Picks 1, 2 (Oscar Allen Compo?) and 2 other early picks. Not bad for a rebuild.

We definitely had interest to the point of the recruiting staff travelling up to Wangaratta to interview him and his family in the home, but clearly they saw Tholstrup as the better fit.

Peter Wright or Mason Cox. Both on the outer, both capable ruck/forwards. Both kick straight for goal. Both would be cheap (no idea of contract status). Clearly they both have flaws but they’re hard competitors and could protect our younger key forwards as well.

I wanted Peter Wright from GC when we went for BBB.

Absolute ️ from me, would get him fit again away from the mess at Bomerland and back on the park.

As for big Cox its a big NO!

We are now a “STRUGGLING” Club with sub par training facilities. Attract Reid? Attract Butters? That’s far from possible.

Pre 2021

Hibberd, Lever, May, Melksham, Langdon, Tomlinson, Brown all improved our list

Since 2021 premiership

We’ve lost Jackson, Brayshaw 💔, Hibbo, ANB, Jordan, Harmes, Bedford , Hunt

Added … nil. donuts. no one !! We have added no one.

I’ve heard the Salary Cap used as an excuse. It’s an excuse for lazy trading. Grundy was a punt that didn’t pay off and was a long shot at best. Schache, Billings, McAdam. Fullerton. Lazy trading.

Would definitely have a go at him as he adds outside run, which we need badly.

Big yes to Darcy Wilson if the opportunity ever came up.

Looked a genuinely exciting prospect last year but seems to have come down with a case of the second year blues. Not dissimilar to Windsor.

It was a long shot but I didn't think it was horrendous.

We clearly tried every key forward available - and some not - and seem to be continuing to do so even now.

I would much rather us try something like Grundy and at least attempt something new (which clearly didn't work) rather than try nothing at all. It would be far worse to wonder to ourselves what could have been and why the hell didn't we at least try it.

We (MFC) did some serious work with the Reid's before the draft and no doubt stayed in touch to keep the relationship warm. We have quite a few connections around the area with former players.

I played a bit with his old man and I really doubt he'd ever come out and say what Caro quoted. They're just not that type of person.

I still doubt he'll ever leave the Eagles as from all accounts he is loving life over there.

There was more context added today around the parental involvement that it was due to Reid being exceptionally indecisive, so this came about via his mother and father helping him work through the decision. No idea the veracity of it, but I don't necessarily think it's in the same vein as Jacko etc or nefarious medalling.

I wondered the same thing after watching the clip...she also mentioned that some clubs believe Richmond and Melbourne are having a big crack, so suggests that Caro may have misspoken and meant North initially (or that we're having a crack regardless of what his camp thinks, which seems REALLY unlikely).

On Darcy Wilson, I remember there were some views that he wasn't strong in the contest and too outside. I was a fan and didn't quite share that view and was hopeful we'd take him with our second choice. On talent he seemed the best available at our 2nd pick. By draft time Saints & Crows seemed the ones most linked with him, so not sure if we preferred Kolts competitiveness and what our current views might be.

Salary cap is a valid reason when we already have several players on big coin, and lots of youngsters coming through who will need to be paid more.
Also have to consider available list spots and trying to put together a sustainable list that will carry us forward for years to come.

Since 2021 our focus has clearly been on taking our top picks to the draft.

Senior
2 Jacob van Rooyen - pick 19
4 Judd McVee - rookie draft
6 Caleb Windsor - pick 7
12 Koltyn Tholstrup - pick 13
14 Jack Billings - trade (3rd round pick)
19 Harvey Langford - pick 6
20 Xavier Lindsay - pick 11
21 Matthew Jefferson - pick 15
22 Blake Howes - pick 39
23 Shane McAdam - trade (2nd round pick)
26 Jed Adams - pick 38
29 Tom Campbell - free agent
30 Harry Sharp - trade (3rd round pick and swap of steak knives)
33 Tom Fullarton - trade (3rd round pick)
40 Taj Woewodin - father son

Rookie
28 Will Verrall
38 Oliver Sestan
39 Ricky Mentha
41 Kynan Brown
42 Aidan Johnson
43 Jack Henderson
44 Luker Kentfield
45 Andy Moniz-Wakefield
46 Jai Culley

Obviously a few misses there, but all of the top selections are ok.

Would you rather we didn't have some/all of JVR/Windsor/Langford/Lindsay and instead throw everything at 28yo Houston types?

If we sign mason cox I will burn down the MCG. There is no worse chant in the league than that poxy USA USA chant the filth fans subject us to.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.
