Sesto, Will V and Jeffo are out there. I just spotted Luker. Huge solid “kid” wearing #44 They’ve only just started training yet he looks like he’s been with the boys for years.

We've kept number 34 in reserve for Kalani White, then?

I think you’re the one carrying a backpack full of something but it ain’t bricks.

Yep it’s full of courage, heart, skills and football sense. Maybe I’ll head down to training on Thursday…

*again, I’m joking but this time with a salt bae sprinkle of seriousness *

Totally. Coming after  injuries to Fritsch and Petty, losing Melky was the killer blow.

Hopefully JVR gets up. My confidence in beating Freo was severely dented once JVR was surprisingly left out with injury.

I don't think we're a chance on Monday without JVR given how diabolical our forward line has been this year.

We can't ever have a forward line of Petty and Turner as your number 1 and 2 key forwards again. If you have to wheel out a finished BBB  then so be it.

You may be a lil lonesome since no one else will be there.

It's just not the players fault it's the dysfunctional structure and ball skills by players further up the ground.

Not so far fetched.

Garry 'Bull' Baker ('74' - '81') brought some house bricks to training on occasions and used to run laps with one in each hand

After seeing this,  my brother, myself and others in our mad grog squad group thereafter referred to him as 'Bricks' Baker!

What's your end game? The whole team to get concussion so we forfeit rather than playing King's Birthday?

Thanks WCW I know this is a bit cheeky but would you mind asking JVR and when you meet Luker - What is your actual height? Thanks in advance and thank you for turning up today very commendable.

Would be good to know, as have seen different heights for both stated.

Thanks Redleg yes they have both shrunk a couple of centimetres. The Club need to be a bit more precise, I know when we were growing up we knew exactly how tall we were, my kids were the same marked on the pantry door, lol.!!

Club has listed JVR at 193 cms and Kentfield at 194 cms.

Gary Baker used to run rock wall restaurant at Salamanca Hobart. Not only a great restaurant but Gary and his wife were terrific hosts. No matter how long between visits they remembered you and they loved seeing Dees supporters. So not only was he great player but a top bloke.

Completely. That plus no Kozzie, JVR and Brayshaw.

I read somewhere recently (can’t recall where), that he is 196cm. It’s entirely possible that the club (MFC) has taken info from a previous club’s player profile in their haste to get something up on the web site, and that he has shot up another couple of cm’s in the meantime.

Thanks so much WCW for another great set of observations and insights.

So they were in high spirits.  Is that a good thing ie not dwelling over what cannot be undone, or bad that they were happy and not as angry as the supporter base?

Good to hear that Luker Kentfield has hit the track.  Was he welcomed by the group as a whole?  Did he look, from what sounds like a limited session, grossly underdone?  How was his ball handling both in the air and on the turf?

Wouldn't read much into the on track mood Mono.  One of the weeks i attended training was before the Lions match and they were super vocal & and [censored]-o-hooping!

I'm not sure it matters all that much TBH.  A quietish session could mean they're fully focused and determined to get the job done or maybe unhappy about things!

… and of course, Gus.

Melk was mooted to return “after the bye” which is round 15.  Reports have said that he was in full training over the last several weeks. After such a layoff surely he will need at least one game at VFL.  Unfortunately Casey has, of course,  a bye weekend 15 June so he can’t get a warm up there.

When I was last at training, six weeks ago, he was moving and kicking sweetly. Looked ready to go then so hopefully he is only a few weeks away now.

This time last season the majority call was for him to be desisted.

Now he's a saviour ,like Petty!!

Very excited by the prospect of Milkshake returning soon. Done an incredible job to get back ahead of schedule, can see the steely determinationin in his eyes. Could do with the extra determination and tenacity on the field right now.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #7 Jack Viney

The Demon stalwart surpassed the number of his father's appearances for the club towards the end of the season. As he approaches his thirties, his pace is inevitably slowing, and he is likely to explore alternative opportunities beyond the team's midfield.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #8 Jake Lever

The Demon premiership defender who has the reputation the master of intercept possessions as well as great leadership qualities managed only eight senior games this season as he battled injury and form, prompting speculation that he might be enticed to look elsewhere.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #10 Daniel Turner

“Disco” took his time (four seasons) but the mid-season draftee has been a shining light of Melbourne's campaign, improving to become a versatile option at either end of the ground. He has great marking skills which allows him to play as a marking target up forward or an intercepting defender down back.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #11 Max Gawn

The skipper delivered another outstanding season, leading the team from the front, participating in every game, and earning club champion honours, while also securing an equal record eighth All-Australian blazer as a ruckman.  Max Gawn is arguably the greatest exponent of ruck skills in the history of the game; an exceptional leader who has guided the club to a premiership, through the challenging times that followed, and now into the next phase of its storied history.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #12 Koltyn Tholstrup

It was a frustrating season for the former number 13 draft selection, who failed to build momentum in his second campaign; Tholstrup played only nine games, having been omitted twice and substituted out three times. However, he demonstrated promising signs in the midfield at Casey towards the end of the season, and big things are anticipated from him in the coming years.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #13 Clayton Oliver

Clayton Oliver, a four-time best and fairest winner at the club, has navigated a challenging period over the past two years, marked by injuries and personal issues, but has demonstrated promising signs suggesting a return to his optimal form in 2025. He is presently contracted to the club for an additional five years, with a substantial annual salary of approximately $1.7 million in the final seasons of his agreement. All at Melbourne are eagerly anticipating his resurgence to his previous peak performance levels.
