A NRL ex player told me “the Gold Coast is a party town. They’ll never do any good.”

For NRL players, Penrith is a party town.

My guess is that they've finally decided to grow up and go with a more traditional style guernsey just like the Bears, Port and Dockers eventually did. They'll at least look like a football team.

Umm..  looks like I was wrong. They somehow made it worse. Believe the reveal is this Friday morning so not 100% confirmed.

Couple of things in that report:

* It's not 'an oval'; it's a footy, surely!

* it's not a setting sun; the shimmering bottom half means it's a rising sun, over the Pacific.

Credibility points deductions.

Still an amateurly run club, kinda like ourselves when CS released the MFC shield with 20 million things happening in it.

truly one of the worst pieces of design imaginable

That alleged new symbol is clearly just an infrared scan of an egg being cooked. Only thing I can't decide is if it is a side view of a poached egg or a top view of a fried egg.

To reference an ancient egg related public health ad, "This is your football code on marketing."

At first glance I thought it was an 'S' and wondered what tf 'S' stood for.

Suns?

I actually quite like it. Doesn't try too hard. I immediately saw the "rising" sun reflection on the water. Also gives me Commodore 64 vibes lol

I suppose so but you don't see too many clubs running round with that kind of branding. Eg. Could you imagine Essendon running around with a giant 'B' on all their apparel? Or Collingwood with 'M' etc

franchise gonna franchise

no soul whatsoever

Rather than a rebrand , I'd rather they disband, just in time for Tassie keep it at 18 teams

I've been saying for a while, one of three things will happen to the Suns - either fold, merge or relocate.  They're simply not viable as they are.  As for the new logo, I reckon the Year 7 Visual Communication Design class at my school could come up with something better.

I know what you mean - although I think the Giants may have a G on one of their tops? Anyway, looks like they’ve tried to incorporate lots of things into one design. Looks like the logo of a 70s American cable news channel.

I reckon Collingwood should go with a giant C.

Always though the "Suns" was such a lame name. They should merge with Southport Sharks, rebrand as the Gold Coast Sharks and use the Sharks guernsey but in red & yellow.

That would make sense, so obviously it's never going to happen

  • CASEY: Richmond

The match up of teams competing in our great Aussie game at its second highest level is a rarity for a work day Thursday morning but the blustery conditions that met the players at a windswept Casey Fields was something far more commonplace. They turned the opening stanza between the Casey Demons and a somewhat depleted Richmond VFL into a mess of fumbling unforced errors, spilt marks and wasted opportunities for both sides but they did set up a significant win for the home team which is exactly what transpired on this Anzac Day round opener. Casey opened up strong against the breeze with the first goal to Aidan Johnson, the Tigers quickly responded and the game degenerated into a defensive slog and the teams were level when the first siren sounded.

After five consecutive defeats, the Demons have now notched up back-to-back victories, comfortably accounting for the Tigers in the traditional ANZAC Eve clash. They surged to a commanding 44-point lead early in the final quarter before easing off the pedal, resting skipper Max Gawn and conceding the last four goals of the game to close out a solid 20-point win.
