Agreed. I wish he had more room up forward to showcase his skills. One on one for his size he's difficult to stop. Roves the ball like a small crumber, flies high and turns on a sixpence with uncanny goal sense. And consistently kicks around fifty or more a year. He seemed to travel a fair way up the ground v cats and looked good.

They still do the LHS to RHS conversion of the F-150, Ford still has some presence from an Engineering POV.

I am sure all their players get one big F-150 as a perk for being under contract. They need those big truck for their farming.

Probably to run over as much wild life as they can too. Not to mention the competition to see who can use the most fossil fuels and take up the most parking space. I saw an F 150 at Woollies the other day and it stuck out over the line by about five feet. They really are trucks.

If the dissent rule was interpreted as it was when first introduced there would have been at least four 50 meters against those whiners.

Clarry was playing a similar defensive role Gus often played. A kick behind play defensive side.

They also used clarry a lot to set up transition, something they have been doing a bit off, but it was really noticeable sat night..

It suits him because whilst he is not a bullet kick like say salo, his footy iq is off the charts, he sees the field brilliantly and he makes good decisions.

He also doesn't get rushed and can take and break tackles.

It means they often have clarry at the defensive end if the chain and tracc up the ground in dangerous offensive positions - think his kick to Fritter to set up the wonder goal.

Powerful combo and a great use of clarry's footy iq - which I think is maybe the best I've ever seen  though increasingly I'm blown away by how well koz reads the game and how quickly he thinks.

On that last point, watch his goal he sharks from a handball. Genius.

Nine out of ten players go to the cats player and tackle or put frontal pressure on. 

Not koz. He pauses for a split second, knowing a handball might come and then moves to intercept before the cats player even makes contact with the ball. Just incredible.

One of the wiser things I have heard Nathan Buckley say is that the indigenous players just see the game differently and play in a way that others don't seem to be able to. This is a great example of what he was talking about IMHO. 

People can post or care about what they want of course, but I find it odd that most post-winning game threads are usually uppity about how the media reports on the win or their perceptions about our team. 

Seriously, who cares if Dermott isn't on board, or downplays the win? Fritsch kicked a goal that will be remembered 50 years from now. What does it matter if some forgotten random didn't rate it?

Chris Scott has one job: (clue) it isn't to hand out plaudits to the opposition, but to win flags, whatever approach he thinks is best. Goodwin has the same job, but takes a different approach. 

Enjoy the win. Look at the stats. Do the old fashioned eye-ball test. None of what the media and other footy forums say has anything to do with our chances of winning a flag.

One of the most amusing aspects of media narrative: had Cameron kicked straight, we'd reading articles about another Scott coaching masterclass. He didn't, so instead we get articles about Jason Taylor's drafting nous. So silly.

As you say, it was such an enjoyable win and I have even watched the replay just to go back and look at a few key moments in the game that I thought were big factors in winning the game.

Big positive is having 5 players under 10 games and beating the undefeated team without the likes of Bowey, Salem and McAdam.

I want surprised about it at all. They've been like that for years, with the particular stars being Hawkins, Cameron and Danger. None of them has EVER infringed the rules; any free kick against them is plainly wrong. 
 

And I have never seen any of them pinged for dissent.

I reckon the zero tolerance on dissent was a Brad Scott initiative that fell really flat with fans and failed to be enforceable without paying a zillion free kicks each week. Probably was one of many things that cost him that gig and forced him back into coaching where he's better suited anyway (not that he's particularly good at that either).

Give the referee backchat and you go in the sin bin to cool down for 10 minutes. Down a man is a big disadvantage so guess what. there's no dissent.

So dissent is easy to deal with really. It's just a question of the will to stamp it out. You penalise players until they learn that dissent isn't worth it. They will learn quickly and adapt the same as they do to any other rule change. It's just a question of the will to do it.

Really happy with that game, more so after a couple of days to think about it.

Before the game I thought we’d need big games out of our big 3 mids to get the job done but it turns out we didn’t. Clarry came into it after half time, and Trac & Viney had moments but they didn’t dominate and we still beat them pretty solidly. I think this speaks to the change in style that isn’t so reliant on Trac streaming out of the centre bounce for us to score. 

One question I had was whether we’d be able to slow down their ball movement and we did that very well with pressure on the ball carrier and our organisation across the ground. Pressuring each disposal disrupted their run as it made it hard for cheats like Close and Miers to run forward of the contest all the time and not be accountable. 

There was debate around whether Petty needed to be dropped or the plan to run him into form in the 1s would work and clearly it did. Makes a massive difference having him clunking marks and he was also putting pressure on at ground level (very important spoil that led to the Fritsch miracle). Big tick for the fitness and coaching staff. 

Scott and every Geelong fan telling themselves they nearly pinched it which is true, but we could’ve also had it over by half- or 3QT if we’d taken our early chances. They’ll know internally we had them on toast. 

Can we do it again against the Blues? Will be tough off a short break but the cats move the ball better than the blues do, we should be able to stop them, and if we can’t so be it - a loss here doesn’t end the season, just need to keep building on it for September. Signs are good.

Union is better referreed, but it’s a different game with a different culture. The afl tried zero tolerance and everyone’s brains melted because 1) we all love to yell at the umpires, 2) there’s so much grey area in our game that some decisions are legitimately 50-50 and 3) it’s never really zero tolerance (some chosen ones always get tolerance).

We’d never cope with the 15+ 50m penalties that would come about from zero tolerance, it’d have to be a 25m penalty

Yep, totally agree. 

When I was younger I was playing in my first Rugby Union game. Ref made a call and I was confused so asked what it was for. Whistle, marched 10. Asked 'what', marched 10 again. Several experienced team mates had me shut up very quickly.

 25m penalty means nothing these days. Almost every mark or free leads to the voluntary giving up of 15-25m anyway and with the 'stand/5m' rule who knows where the mark is most of the time.

Early in the season the players had started to learn how to behave - even the Geelong ones who are now back to their finest whinging. There was never any need for multiple penalities.   

If it had been enforced consistently all season, by now infingements would be as rare as hens' teeth.   But expecting the AFL to be consistent?  Good luck with that.

I noticed the same thing and headband boy also has that rare ability to go tall or short depending on the circumstances.
