Harley Reid. If it was MFC in their position it would be investigated.

What?

Only way Simpson still has a job is if they all agreed to tank

ย

They are Soooo bad they dont have to tank, they are just abysmally woeful!

Given they won last year towards the end of the season, and would not have finished last unless North subsequently won, I don't think there is much to investigate.ย

Agree.

They beat the Dogs in round 23 when they were $16-1 to win the game, after seemingly having the spoon in the bag.

Itโ€™s the polar opposite to tanking.

No, just no.ย

Hawks are worse

Itโ€™s a three way draw, Roos, Hawks and Eagles who will receive the most handouts from AFL.

Really? A team managing the load on one of the most promising first year players to have entered the system in years?

Clarry wasnt managed in his first year! Seemed to work out well for him!๐Ÿ˜‡

To be honest, I took the original post to be about WCE tanking last year to GET Harley Reid.

Not sure why this post has copped the laughs and criticism it has. Itโ€™s a fair comment and question. 100% the โ€œmanagingโ€ of Harley Reid is suspicious.ย

Why ET? As in the WCE don't want to win too many games in 2024 ?

Theyโ€™re a big club, they can survive another down year for the purpose of gaining advantageous draft picks. I just think questioning if theyโ€™re tanking (or not) is a fair question.ย

Let's face it, he didn't play very well last match anyway ๐Ÿ˜œ

There is no such thing as tanking any more.ย

1. The league has some magic formula to give clubs access to additional players/picks. The old system which encouraged tanking under a formula previously used no longer exists.ย

2. Finishing bottom gets you the first pick, and then pick 19...one pickย  after the premier for that year, and so forth.ย  So all you finish up with is one player/pick more than the premiers.ย  Look how much it has done for WCE this year. That is not how you build a list.

3. WCE played finals in 2020.ย  There is no way the league will give them any access to extra picks. As hard it is to believe, they haven't been bad enough for long enough yet.ย

4. WCE were offered 3 first round picks for pick 1.ย  They refused, just so they could get 5 minutes of coverage with Reid when they selected him.ย  With Darling, McGovern, Gaff all gone in the near future, they will need more than 1 player to replace them.ย

  • PREVIEW: Collingwood

Way back in March we contemplated the possibility of a Demon resurgence after Simon Goodwinโ€™s summer of love.ย Manyย issues at the club had seemingly been addressed, key players were returning from injury and a brand new day was about to dawn. We imagined the coach pulling a rabbit out of a hat. The team would roar up the charts, push aside every opponent and make its way to a Grand Final ending in ultimate triumph with Goody and Max holding the premiership cup aloft under a shower of red and blue ticker tape.

Weโ€™re back! That was fun. The Mighty Deesโ€™ Season 10 campaign is off toa flying start with a commandingย 48-point winover the Western Bulldogs, retaining the Hampson-Hardeman Cup in style. After a hard-fought first half in slippery conditions, the Dees came out in the second half and showcased their trademark superior class, piling on four goals in the third termand never looked back.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

  • CASEY: Box Hill

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
