That peanut Jon Anderson starting a rumour on 3AW this morning that Clarrie won't play🤬

usually rumours like this  don’t come from nowhere. The benefit might be that it’s really then a 3 week break for him to the tigers game.

this is true, but goodwin doesn't play funny buggers - in the presser yesterday he was asked directly about claz and said "he'll play"

If Clarry is out, I don't mind. He needs to get his hand right. He is too important for the rest of the season.

I'd like to see Petty play a somewhat defensive role on Harris Andrews. Keep him out of it and  Brisbane are in real trouble.

Why have Brisbane started badly?

any key outs for them?

One of the biggest threats for tonight will be Bailey, IMO. He always seems to bob-up against us.

Agree.

I'd also add that we have also struggled their other excellent medium half forwards/mids/utilises  in particular mcluggage and McCarty.

Defensively it's been our Achilles heel for years.

Part of the issue against the lions is we have to send one of our best mid sized defenders to Cameron - and basically play him man on man (ie not much zoning off).

But it's also a personnel issue.

Nev was brilliant as a small/medium defender in 2018, just about the best. But since then we've struggled in that space.

The juddster was brilliant last year  and has become our go to player for the opposition's best medium forward.

But the lions have four excellent medium forwards to cover.

I think Howes was brought in to strengthen our ability to cover such players  and thus far had been terrific at doing so. He'sslotted in down back like a 200 gamer and gives us so much more flexibility.

So, I'm more confident than I have been for ages that we have the tools to cover the lions' dangerous medium forwards.

Look there’s only one thing I know for sure, Koltin Tholstrup will be kicking 3 goals tonight.

Bookmark it, rack it, set your watch to it, circle your calendars around it and set your VCRs to it.

Game day, legends!!

Who's excited? I'm excited!

OH, AND MY 1Y0 WHO WOKE UP THIS MORNING AT 455AM AND REFUSED TO GO BACK TO SLEEP - CLEARLY COULDN'T WAIT FOR THE GAME!

Sadly it appears Salem may of passed his best. Injuries and other issues may of caught up with him. Personally I'm holding judgement until writing him off as he's a one of our smartest footballer's. We can probably adapt his role to make him more than useful into the future.

VCR's! Are they still a thing?

Please everyone who is going can they barrack as twice as loud, because I am unable to go because my back is putting great pressure on my groin, which is causing a lot of pain, and making it hard to walk. I am using a walker to walk, and taking pain killers. I am seeing a physio who is very happy with progress. Too hard to go with walker, and I doing exercises and plenty of walking to get better. This is the first Melbourne game I have missed at the Mcg for many years.

In his last 2 games Lachie Neale has sat out the match with a massive bag of ice on his ankle.

Having said that he got 35 and 27 possessions in those games.

eh?

he's been very good so far this year

once he moves back into midfield rotation - likely after bowey is back - he'll win a lot more footy

don't look at his fantasy / supercoach scores for his effect on team, and team balance

No sign of WCW on here yet, shes probably on her second pack of fags by now

  • REPORT: Richmond

The fans who turned up to the MCG for Melbourne’s Anzac Day Eve clash against Richmond would have been disappointed if they turned up to see a great spectacle. As much as this was a night for the 71,635 in attendance to commemorate heroes of the nation’s past wars, it was also a time for the Melbourne Football Club to consolidate upon its first win after a horrific start to the 2025 season. On this basis, despite the fact that it was an uninspiring and dour struggle for most of its 100 minutes, the night will be one for the fans to remember. They certainly got value out of the pre match activity honouring those who fought for their country. The MCG and the lights of the city as backdrop was made for nights such as these and, in my view, we received a more inspirational ceremony of Anzac culture than others both here and elsewhere around the country.

  • CASEY: Richmond

The match up of teams competing in our great Aussie game at its second highest level is a rarity for a work day Thursday morning but the blustery conditions that met the players at a windswept Casey Fields was something far more commonplace. They turned the opening stanza between the Casey Demons and a somewhat depleted Richmond VFL into a mess of fumbling unforced errors, spilt marks and wasted opportunities for both sides but they did set up a significant win for the home team which is exactly what transpired on this Anzac Day round opener. Casey opened up strong against the breeze with the first goal to Aidan Johnson, the Tigers quickly responded and the game degenerated into a defensive slog and the teams were level when the first siren sounded.

After five consecutive defeats, the Demons have now notched up back-to-back victories, comfortably accounting for the Tigers in the traditional ANZAC Eve clash. They surged to a commanding 44-point lead early in the final quarter before easing off the pedal, resting skipper Max Gawn and conceding the last four goals of the game to close out a solid 20-point win.
