One of the quieter Big Footy pre match threads!!

General feel over there is they will probably lose or lose by a lot.

Some fully resigned, looking to drink as many Chardys as possible to ease the pain.

A few trying to keep the faith believing they have a history of playing well against us & just might crack a win. 

With some of those then slapping themselves immediately after and doing a complete 180 to then predict a loss!?

Overall i get the impression this is a pretty diff type of supporter base (no doubt they have exceptions) to last week's darling buds.  Expectations generally low.

They just came in, beat port on their home deck and are hanging around here for the week so will be settled for Thursday night, have May back and are in miles better form.  Hoping I am wrong but this could be a real thumping and suck whats left of the life out of our season

There is a distinct possibility I might have the most beers I’ve ever had a game this Thursday night.

I have a hotel in the city so I will be getting blind drunk to help with the pain of another loss or a wild party at the casino to celebrate an unlikely victory.  Either way I'm gonna enjoy myself as much as I can.  Reality is we are a s**t team and now our expectations for this season are in the gutter the losses won't hurt as much

Going to be a very interesting first quarter. Nicks is predictable in his changes and I can almost guarantee we swap to an ultra attacking mindset this week where we go through the corridor every single time. It will be a take the game on gameplan from Nicks.

A humiliating loss and I can see a lot of the locals not giving a stuff. Good thing we should have more interstate visitors this year, but can't help but think us getting smacked first up will take some of the shine off Gather Round as an Adelaide event.

This is exactly the kind of game we'd show up for last year. Not confident though. 10+ goal loss for mine.

Things are never going as good or as bad as you think they are, so I suggest caution (unless your west coast)

I quite enjoy them.

I'm actually more worried about this game than the last one.

I guess because Crows are so desperate for a win.

And although the umpires were half decent last round, I can't see it happening twice.

I'm also worried about the five day break given we played it hot conditions and have not a few injuries.

If we come back from SA with eight points I won't whinge about Gather round. Unless we lose over there next year. 

Hoping to get over there one year. Despite the Port fans, SA is a beautiful state.

It would be a problem if the players had this attitude.

I can't see how supporters feeling this way could have any influence on the game.

Ostensibly no, but pervasive sentiment is just that.

How pervasive? Depends. 
How impactful? Unknowable.

Adelaide have been getting closer and closer to beating us in last few matches, unlucky to not have beaten us last game if not for their inaccuracy. I am surprised they've struggled but very weary of them, they play a very fast and attacking style once up and about. I like how we look very level-headed, this with keeping the crowd quiet should get us the win. But think it'll be tight, their home ground and desperate outfit to get their season going, Dees by 8.

Just play the same team oriented way we have been playing and we’ll win by 5 goals. 
 

We played what felt like was a big emotional win for the club so hopefully their minds moved on quickly considering it was a 5 day break. We are at our best when we’re team orientated! 

the 2021 game at Adelaide Oval is remembered too well and they were saying exactly the same things before hand

I actually think we've learned alot from last season LD.  We certainly won't be going in taking them lightly that's for sure.

The recovery factors are there though.

I'm also looking to go next year but hopefully the AFL aren't looking to crucify us for the Tax Payer Park snub and have us playing the two home teams off a 5 day break again!

Just have them play each other in this round.  Seems to make sense, except at HQ.

I predicted Adelaide would be challenging for top 4 at the start of the season. They have been massively disappointing so far this year. 

The season is long. Things can change quickly. They lack structure and just haven't clicked yet. They will win games this year on pure talent of their young list. All it will take is a two or three young players to have a good game and they will crack games wide open and win by big margins.

Let's hope it's not this week.

Bit rich of any Victorian club to be complaining about the number of games at their home ground.

I did too (pick them to rise), but not because of their list as much as the fact that nicks had implemented a game plan and system that reflect what successful teams have put in place - fast  effective transition from the back half. 

And they appeared to be super fit.

Together this made them offensively strong - they scored more points than any other team last year  which is pretty remarkable given they didn't make the 8.

My query was their defensive system, but i assumed nicks was sorting offence first before sorting the defensive system.

And perhaps that's what they have been focusing on as they have really slowed their ball movement (of course that could be a result of opposition coaches implementing tactics to negate their strengths - or a bit of both).

They may come good. But they don’t look as fit as last year and i don't agree their group of younger players are that talented. We have a more talented group of 22 and unders.

And I'd add that they relied a lot on Walker last year, and he looks like a crock thus far, and Fogerty is one dimensional and like Walker zero help in terms of contributing to all team defence. Two plodders.

Thilthorpe looks a player, but he'll be lucky to play this season with the time frame for his knee injury still 4-5 months.

Danger game for sure.

A five day break is crazy. Hard to get up physically and mentally.

I'd be happy with a low quality, scrappy 7 point win that has fans bagging us for not being able to demolish a team in struggle town.

Just want the four points, nothing more, nothing less.

I wouldn’t be overly concerned about the 5 day break… Adelaide get one day extra but they had the long haul flight back from Perth and their game was possibly a much harder fought affair than was ours (I imagine in similar temperatures?).

Comparing the Crows to Port, it would be tempting to think the Crows are total rubbish having gone 0-3, as opposed to Ports 3-0 prior to playing us, but looking back at Adelaide's losses, none suggest to me they are anything near Hawthorn levels of ineptitude.

Loosing last Rd by 35 points in Perth to a Freo that's flying at the moment isn't a huge loss in my mind.

Quite wary of this game, particularly considering how sore Trac and Clarry looked to be in parts of the game last week.

Season wise, I feel this is a huge game.  Win this one and it starts to solidify our top 4 spot before our bye, loose it and we're back with the pack.  We look pretty well focused and are playing with alot of fluency and confidence at the moment, so I have alot of faith in where our team is at, but this is yet another test of are we going to be genuine contenders or also rans this season.

Adelaide are presently playing a chip and kick game as the corridor game is not working. Same with Hawthorn.

Amazing how quickly the helter skelter style of the Pies etc has been countered.

Honestly Adelaide aren’t as bad as they’re currently playing. They look low on confidence so a quick start by them and some belief and it’ll be a slog. 
 

As you said, just take the win! Go Dees

If the habitual spitter ( colloquially known as Tex ) plays well , we  lose.

In my opinion he’s the only danger to our success.

This is what I used to tell myself during our wilderness years. But they did hurt, and they hurt just as much no matter how many consecutive losses, nor how big the losing margin. 😢

I think the danger is our inability to control the loose ball inside our defensive 50 which I reckon is where PA got a lot of their score from (I haven’t checked the stats). Adelaide have some quality small forwards so I’d imagine we’ve put a bit of work into them. 
 

I also think the mindset of the Club was to win both games so there is little chance of complacency after the PA win despite the emotional high everyone experienced. I reckon the thinking from the moment the siren went against PA was that the first half of the job was done. If Adelaide are to beat us they will have to play pretty well.
