The bloke’s jump and knees are a weapon. I haven’t seen someone wreak such havoc to the oppositions ribs, spine, noggin since Alex Rance retired. At least Rance had the guts to occasionally run back with the flight of the ball. Didn’t see it but heard he stuck his knee into Stewart’s head this round, waiting for the karma bus to clean him up.

In any event, please be polite when talking about footballers from other clubs. They’re still human beings and it takes courage and lots more to play the game at this level. 

It's interesting isn't it as the knee lift isn't against the rules but there is obviously large potential for damage and even concussion. I can see them changing the rule down the line tbh

It's such a hard one. My dad raised me to use the knee as a weapon, but deep down I feel it's wrong. 

At the top level, I'd do it all the time and force the AFL to make a decision on it. Until it's outlawed, I'm not going to begrudge any player from going the knee within the rules.

There was no malice from Chol in either of them. The May one happened right in front of me and i watched the Geelong game.

May was flying back courageously at an angle at a furious pace.

Happened in an actual footballing act not like that [censored] from Collingwood

Whether malice was used is immaterial,  he nearly took out JVR'S brain in a ruck contest. At least the umpire saw that. 

If he cleans up Maynard this week then we can have a knees-up. 

 

No kneed for that Mr Chol, I do hope his mate Ginny receives 8 free kicks against his old mob this week.

The Texan doesn't look at the ball whereas Mabior does ... our JVR gets up high too but JVR doesn't raise his knee as high at Mabior and JVR shows the appropriate technique

I'm satisfied that there isn't any malice, but I do think he owes other players a duty of care.

Don't see how the league can outlaw sling tackles and shoulders that make head high contact, but allow other parts of the body to be used to the same effect.

Broken ribs are one thing, but a massive wack with a knee to the head like that Geelong bloke copped is bloody dangerous.

Does the AFL need to make a rule for every foreseeable use of the body that makes contact or just put the responsibility back on the player that they execute the way they play properly or get suspended.  If there isn't already a sufficiently general rule, they should make one pronto.

I like Chol, but having his knees do the damage they have in the past two weeks tells me he doesn't care enough for his fellow competitors and needs to change the way he plays or should spend an extended period on the side lines.

The AFL/VFL used to have a rule and suspension for it - undually rough play. I don't think either of Chol's would fall into that category but it would stop others getting off on technicalities

Chol seems to like playing from behind. Either by trying to take hangers, or hanging back getting 'cheapies' out the back rather than taking front position in marking contests.

He gets a disproportionate number of 'snap' (or rover type) goals for such a big guy. 

Perhaps that's why he's been moved on from 2 previous clubs.  🤔

There are a few different ways to use knees in a marking contest

1. Put knee on shoulder

2. Jump with your knee so that your shin is perpendicular to the spine of the player in front. Effectively pushing away the player in front

3. Use the'point' of the knee to drive into the player in front. This is the contentious one that does the most damage

The action happens at speed so it's often an unpredictable outcome but players who have grown up in the school yard playing footy typically is 1 or 2 as they aren't trying to 'hurt' the player in front. 

Players that haven't grown up with game and those that are trying to'hurt' the player in front often is number 3
