PREGAME: Rd 04 vs Adelaide

Recommended Posts

Currently on a family roadtrip to SA. Today we stopped at Kingston SE for some fresh lobster and fish n chips for lunch. Turns out the couple that run Lacepede Seafood are massive Dees fans, as discovered when I rocked in wearing my Narrm beanie.
Other customers lined up as the bloke and I chatted footy. My kids then started singing Grand Old Flag as we ate succulent fresh lobster and perfectly cooked fish n chips - highly recommend.
Oh and his Mrs reckons we’re a shoe-in for the flag.
We’ll be on Kangaroo Island tomorrow night, but I’ll shout CARNAFCKNDEES across the water.

Playing with broken ribs won’t make the injury worse (unlike other injuries). It’s a question of pain management and whether he can withstand the pain or not. I reckon he has a high pain threshold.

Im wondering if there will be a fitness test an hour before the game. I think Mad Micky Malthouse hoppo bumpo someone before a final about 30 years ago until he made the late change.

The only fresh legs are on a bloke with 2 cracked ribs and a hurt vertebrae.

Very strange given 5 day break,  but I am not in the FD.

They have known and planned for this 5 day break. I trust that they have a carefully executed plan heading into a bye soon.

Really thought they would give May another week. 5 days doesn't make a great deal of difference with ribs.

But then again this is Steven May, the Terry Funk of footy.

It was Malthouse who failed the bump test on his previously dislocated shoulder at Thursday training and missed out on playing in the 1982 Richmond flag.

Carlton won the 1982 premiership.

Big danger game. Yes, the club wants to win but it seems crazy so early in the season to select players who are injured, banged up or sick. I expect all the players even the fit ones are going to be fatigued but to include a guy with broken ribs and others with a range of injuries is high risk. A case of the walking wounded. It’s one thing to get through a limited  training session but quite another to get through the physicality and intensity of 4 Q against a desperate opposition. There should be no risks taken at this time with any player.

SEN Sportsday’s Brad Johnson explained why he has the Crows winning despite the side sitting 0-3 and not welcoming back any big names bar Butts.

“I just think they’re not going to start 0-4, I just can’t see them losing at home to Melbourne off another short break,” Johnson said.

“Steven May of course (comes back) … but I just think Adelaide will get it right on their home deck.

“It’s a big game, Thursday night footy and I think their stars will come to play.

“I think Jordan Dawson will lead extremely well even though the pressure is on

Compelling argument by Johnson.

Not.

danger game v Crows.

Crows have their backs to the wall and under pressure to not go 0-4

Dees on alert

Is thinking this too,  it the pressure equally will make you do under characteristic things too that may deviate from plan.

You can take a lead out of Pies book from last week. They still look horrible out of form but they did the basics well. Pressure and contest and they ended up winning.

At least the Crows only have one extra day, but with a trip back from Perth. So both are disadvantaged in a way.

It sounds like the club are turning this fixture debacle into a positive and setting up a mini hub for the week. The last time we were in a hub we won a flag.

I think so.  I thought it was a mistake last year not to stay in SA for the week.

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the

GAMEDAY: Rd 15 vs North Melbourne

It's Game Day and it very well could be the last roll of the dice for the Demon's finals aspirations in 2024. A loss to the bottom side would be another embarrassing moment in a cursed year for the Dees whilst a win could be the spark they need to reignite the fire in the belly.

    THE HUNTER by The Oracle

Something struck me as I sat on the couch watching the tragedy of North Melbourne’s attempt to beat Collingwood unfold on Sunday afternoon at the MCG.    It was three quarter time, the scoreboard had the Pies on 12.7.79, a respectable 63.16% in terms of goal kicking ratio. Meanwhile, the Roos’ 18.2.110 was off the charts at 90.00% shooting accuracy. I was thinking at the same time of Melbourne’s final score only six days before, a woeful 6.15.51 or 28.57% against Collingwood’s 14.5.89

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t
