That's not written for our consumption, that is specifically for the Bulldog Rucks, to stir them up...

You’ll probably find Newscorp are more motivated by making money from people reading their articles than stirring up two tall people who play football.

Five changes for round 1 is a clear admission that we royally stuffed up the opening round team.

Or it's an admission that some players who would have been selected weren't ready (coming back from injury), or were suspended. Add to that forced changes (Bowey) and it's easy to see how you get to 5 ins/outs.

I am not opining on Tmac vs Tommo really but merely commenting  on your criticism of Tmac. I think he will be fine based on his to match form and training. Tommo was not in any way responsible for our loss but like Laurie is a whipping boy at selection.

Here’s hoping for a real team effort on Sunday. Go Dees.

I hope your right about Tmac. Big time.

I think your a tad too reactive here 58er.

Observing and mentioning Tom's last two legitimate games vis a vis Tommo's non selection, doesn't necessarily equate to a criticism of the bloke.

Ps I hope hes fine too. Very much so. Been an absolute champion of the game for us and still relatively young.

Dropping Tomlinson for (I assume) TMac is a terrible call. TMac to play on Lobb? Tomlinson was fine last week, TMac is bigger to cover their talk forwards but less agile.

just checked out the dogs team.

defence is a joke. midfield is average

we will destroy them

Midfield average?

When is the last time TMac and BBB played a decent game? 2021-2022? We are pinning a lot of hope on the shoulders of  a couple of old blokes with broken bodies, hoping for a miracle here!

We haven't named a sub so perhaps a tall will be our sub tomorrow

Really hope Billings gets a full game this week.

Billings' mobility (as one of the skills he consistently displays) would make a significant difference to our forward line woes and a full game would assist in his Demon revival, setting one of those long-awaited alternative strategies to the pillars of salt so transfixed within our forward line array and the effectiveness of our midfield clearances.

yeah true i went a bit hard there. but it’s no longer one of the best in the comp. No macrae and no dunkley, they don’t bat very deep.

We will win this ,Benny to kick 6 ,Fritta 4 jvr 4,Kossie to run riot with Billings playing a blinder. My cat told me  and he would know

Another negative comment. Again and again no positives.

so you give us no chance due to the FD changes?

Don’t feed the trolls.

Brown to kick 5 and move like Charlie Curnow. T Mac to play like prime Matty Scarlett. [censored] da haters

And can you believe we lost to Sydney last week when they had their own 3 best midfielders out

Adams 0 games for Sydney

Mills who rarely played through the middle unless needed to run with someone played more off half back

Parker was a very very good midfielder but Warner and Guiden have been there 2 best mids since early 22

But Kane Cornes was pushing the best mids out agenda and many bought it. If you watch footy and Sydney’s evolution you would realise how deep their midfield went

They made the pies look second rate tonight

Horse got rid of his plodding mids and his team improved

Yeah didn't realise McRae was out but with Bont Libba Treloar and the new kid and guys like vandermeer chucked they're still decent.

Brown got a Brownlow vote in Round 1 against the Dogs last year.

Pot kettle black

Brown v Schache even if this was only break even on output he's at least a bigger presence and will require a big body match up.

Tmac v Tommo again likely at worse a break even but Tmac can also swing forward if needed and relieve in the ruck (from the bench - note Hore has also been named as a tall defender).

We have not lost on Laurie and Spargo (though probably better than Chandler).

Bowey is the loss, but there's depth in the backs to cover it.

Not at all...we just didn't have players available for that game.

BBB, Tommy and Woey all needed a run under the belt plus Pickett wasn't available with suspension.

Then add in a couple of injuries.

With a fit list maybe Tomo is the only one dropped that may have been picked, but if Disco was available I doubt he would have played either.

Actually our midfield is probably where we are lacking a little.  Trac, Viney and Oliver are obvious; then who?  Sparrow is the only remaining true midfielder, Salom is a project, as to is Rivers, ANB, Picket - would any of them be recruited to a side challenging for the finals as a midfielder (primary role). I actually expect 1 will make it, hope for 2; but realistically most will be just topping up midfield rotation minutes. Note this is not criticism, they are very good at their other roles (possibly just as hard to replace as finding our 2nd midfield).

Winning tomorrow is one thing, how we win is another. The Swans and Giants have shown the style of footy that will win this years flag.

There was a time during the current Melbourne cycle that goes back to before the premiership when the club was the toughest to beat in the fourth quarter. The Demons were not only hard to beat at any time but it was virtually impossible to get the better them when scores were close at three quarter time. It was only three or four years ago but they were fit, strong and resilient in body and mind. Sadly, those days are over. This has been the case since the club fell off its pedestal about 12 months ago after it beat Geelong and then lost to Carlton. In both instances, Melbourne put together strong, stirring final quarters, one that resulted in victory, the other, in defeat. Since then, the drop off has been dramatic to the point where it can neither pull off victory in close matches, nor can it even go down in defeat  gallantly.

  • CASEY: Footscray

At twenty-four minutes into the third term of the game between the Casey Demons and Footscray VFL at Whitten Oval, the visitors were coasting. They were winning all over the ground, had the ascendancy in the ruck battles and held a 26 point lead on a day perfect for football. What could go wrong? Everything. The Bulldogs moved into overdrive in the last five minutes of the term and booted three straight goals to reduce the margin to a highly retrievable eight points at the last break. Bouyed by that effort, their confidence was on a high level during the interval and they ran all over the despondent Demons and kicked another five goals to lead by a comfortable margin of four goals deep into the final term before Paddy Cross kicked a couple of too late goals for a despondent Casey. A testament to their lack of pressure in the latter stages of the game was the fact that Footscray’s last ten scoring shots were nine goals and one rushed behind. Things might have been different for the Demons who went into the game after last week’s bye with 12 AFL listed players. Blake Howes was held over for the AFL game but two others, Jack Billings and Taj Woewodin (not officially listed as injured) were also missing and they could have been handy at the end. Another mystery of the current VFL system.

The Demons head back out on the road in Round 10 when they travel to Queensland to take on the reigning Premiers and the top of the table Lions who look very formidable. Can the Dees cause a massive upset? Who comes in and who goes out?

Wayward kicking for goal, dump kicks inside 50 and some baffling umpiring all contributed to the Dees not getting out to an an early lead that may have impacted the result. At the end of the day the Demons were just not good enough and let the Hawks run away with their first win against the Demons in 7 years.
