Schache's gone for Fullarton that's a no brainer.

The rest isn't easy.

I think it has to be either Hore or Woey for Bowey and keeping Salem in the midfield. How many times did Salo lace kicks to forwards (only for them to drop them) last night? He provides us such a needed balance.

Pickett for Laurie.

Not sure if Spargo/Billings swap roles or stay in or go entirely. Not a lot of confidence in either of them.

Give Billing’s a go another of Simon’s completely from Outer space Sub selections. Maybe he had Spargs 10/12 per game possies  and disposal in mind but Billings gets 15 plus surely an advantage and his disposal is not too shabby either.

Give Woe the nod over Marty but it does make our defence more vulnerable but at least Woe may be able to rotate with Salo occasionally.

The 50 he gave away, he struck a player in the head. It might have been an accident but at the ground it didn’t look great.

Didn't look great on the TV, either. Most optimistic expression I could use would be "clumsy" which is the polite way of saying it was deliberate and head-high, although not necessarily forceful.

The VFL game whenever it is going to be important.

Love to see Woey, Brown Jnr, Fullarton kill it and get their spots.

I'm concerned about May's fitness, no doubt he hurt something last night, last thing we need May to be out and tmac come in, bulldogs talls will kill us.

The Axe:

Chandler, Spargo, Billings. Shack.

Injured:

Bowey.

In:

Kosy, Big  Brown, Little Brown, Tommy, Woey.

On Notice:

Van Rooyen.

Must stop trying to be Tommahawk.

Lead up the ground, keep in front, attack the ball overhead with soft hands.

Go to the ball carrier, maybe view some old footage of Neita leading to the ball. If you must hit the pack split it open, they’ll soon look over their shoulder.

I love the targets up forward summary

Then, let's bomb it long and sit the passes on their head

Awesome tactic - never misses

Changes that should happen:

Fullerton in for Schache

Kozzi in for one of Chandler or Spargo, probably the latter

Someone else for Bowey

Changes Goodwin will make:

Tom McDonald for Schache (sub)

Ben Brown for JVR (rested)

Kozzie for Bower (inj)

Spargo to playing roaming defender/plonker

Billings omitted

Man, imagine him in our fwd line now?

Kossie and Woe for starters. I’d drop Spargo play Billing’s and Kynan B and not sure on Chandler and Schache after only one game.

MRO report is out and much to my surprise, Spargo was not cited. Nor was any other Melbourne player. Apparently Spargo's actions didn't even warrant a comment from the MRO.

Fully agree that we have to keep Salem in the middle.

Bowey's injury hurts on so many levels. Robs us of his kicking, pressures us to push Salem back and prevents us pushing Rivers up more.

I'd prefer to go with Woewodin's run.

Given their pre-seasons Billings deserves a full game over Spargo. Should never have been the sub last night and should start next week.

I'm pretty stunned by that, but I did only see one replay at the ground (which I thought supported my initial view live that it was one of those clumsy strikes that gets a week).

In: Kozzy, Woey, K Brown, Fullerton if not quite fit BBB.

Out: Laurie, Spargo, Bowey (injured), Schache.

Sub: Billings.

Never ever again. Amartey rag dolled him. He’s got no desire for the contest.  Talent is not enough at this level.

Brayshaw compo

its open season, all season

line em up

bang, bang bang bang

The only good thing about last night is we won’t ever see Schache is a Demons jumper again. No idea how he continually fools people at training. He has zero intensity and it spreads through the group.

No offence to the bloke, i’m sure he’s a nice guy, just not cut out for footy

Don't mind that team at all

Hope BBB can give us 8-10 games of competing and presenting and take the #1 Defender

Agree. Hore needs to come in for Bowey - we need to be able to keep Salem in the midfield. Woey jnr doesn’t help with that, though I’d be happy for him to replace any of Laurie, Spargo or Billings.

Agree on Hore call. Kate!

This is second hand information, so could well be wrong. I thought I'd share anyway.

Bowsa is reported to have a crack in the coracoid process in his shoulder blade. He will need surgery and likely to miss 8 weeks.

Need BBB or TMac in to at the least take the top defender ala Frampton in the GF last year.

I'd play BBB for no other reason than to protect JVR

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterday’s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown and  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
