While nowhere near as interesting as the great Freo ride of '23, we have two chances to have an improved draft hand by finishing above both Sydney and the Bulldogs.

We hold Sydney's 2nd round pick which can land anywhere between pick 21 - 38 and the bulldogs 3rd rounder which will fall between pick 39 - 56 (pre-FA and other compensation).

Get your mobility scooters ready people. It's time to ride, at a medium pace.

Sorry but after investing so much time and energy into last year’s death ride of Freo only for us to use two selections on players who barely figured among the main draft contenders for most of the year, the entire death ride concept has completely lost me.

As it is, I’m still very happy with our three draft selections and rather than waste time on getting excited about a plethora of irrelevant match outcomes, I prefer to sit back and watch JT show his talent and do his thing at the end of November.

I get where you're coming from. The thought of being within reach of Reid, Duursma, Watson etc.. was tantalising and added an extra element of excitement.

For me, this year at least, death riding is less about the potential names thrown up during the year, but the probable improved hand that will enable JT and Lamb to work their magic.

I'd say both Sydney and the Dogs are a bit overrated going into the season - realistic possibility that neither will make finals.

Overall at present we have

First Round: Our own pick (18, obviously)

Second Round: Sydney (call it 30)

Third Round: St Kilda and Footscray (let's say around 45 and 50)

Fourth Round: Our own pick.

Jason Taylor is like a kid going into a 1980s mini-market looking for lollies with a $1 coin, a 50c piece and two 20c pieces and a five cent piece. He must now work out how to get the $2 grab bag.

Hard to get too excited about this but I'll death ride the Swans. If they do underperform badly then a pick around 25 could be ours. JT will find any nuggets to be had with that pick, I'm sure.

I'm sorry but I'm still attending DR (death ride) meetings after last year's addiction with Fremantle.

Shoes on the other foot this year for Freo. they traded in the pies and port first rounders.

Knowing Freo's luck that means Pies and Port will contest the granny

The death ride is about the journey (****posting) and not the destination (pimpley 18 year olds)

No. I’m happy to death ride Freo again this year. Only because…………….Freo & 🔔

Yes until I physically hear the rattle, I must persist in my ride of Freo despite the attraction of jumping aboard the Swans

As a small child I was once attacked by a large Swan so their definitely tempting.

Can we death ride Collingwood because of you know who and just 'cause...?

They can be deathridden down to 9th. I don't want to see the filth enjoy higher draft picks than that.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
