Listening to SEN the day after news of Gussy's retirement came through some mole of a Filth supporter was trying to compare the medical retirement of Dayne Beams to the medical retirement of Gus.

She was trying to say that MFC shouldn't get any compensation for the loss of Gus in the form of a player replacement, Unbelievable really.

She also stated that MFC should have to pay the full amount of his salary through the cap and not outside because filth had to pay his salary inside the cap.

To try and even compare the circumstances is quite distasteful and sums up the pure filthiness of filth supporters.

Gus has had his career shortened by a Goldberg 'spear' shot to the jaw whilst playing, while 'the chemist' Dayne Beams was releated to a string off field issues away from the field of play.

My pure dislike for the Filth has never been stronger, I want a strong response from our lads on the scoreboard and a form of physical retribution.

It has been stated in numerous articles that the AFL medically retired Gus.

I can't find the ones with the exact words "medically retired by the AFL" but have read them in a few articles and here are a few more.

Clubs are already wanting clarity on salary cap protection for players who are medically retired by the AFL. Brayshaw case will be something of a precedent.

 

Brayshaw was medically retired from the AFL on Thursday, effective immediately, as a result of repeated concussions that could compromise the health of his brain later in life.

 

Combined with extensive neurological testing and discussion with medical experts, a "devastated" Brayshaw has been medically retired from the game.

Melbourne star Angus Brayshaw has told fans he's been left shattered after he was forced to "medically retire" because of concussion.

 

He told teammates he was shocked and shattered to be medically retired from playing as he described his ordeal this summer in a letter to Demons members.

 

The AFL is expected to have discussions with Melbourne about the salary cap implications of Angus Brayshaw’s retirement given he has five more seasons left on his contract.

The league medically retired Brayshaw and while the Demons spent Thursday farewelling their premiership star, his position will clearly set a precedent for all clubs.

From what I’ve read it was Gus and his medical team that made the decision, not the AFL. This is from an ESPN article.

A genuine thought IF the AFL were to go down the path of forcing us to pay it inside the cap, I wonder if we could repurpose Gus into a coaching role. Gus as a midfield/role model coach could at least mean that money isn't completely dead to us.

I really do have to wonder about any opposition fans having an issue about us requesting it be outside the cap. I would have compassion for any player and club that is in the situation that we are, and not only should common sense prevail, but basic human decency. Of course such a thing is practically impossible for the fans wearing Black and White.

With the cap space, l would say the compensation for Brayshaw will come in the form of a well paid quality free agent for next season

If it has to go inside the cap, I say go bonkers KB and knock out half of the pies a few times and make them all retire and keep their entire salaries in their cap too. You could literally hamstring a club that way. I'm not serious of course but it certainly doesn't provide a disincentive not to knock people into next week.

I'm bent out of shape over this I admit, however I am planning to not attend KB. Its a Pies home game and my way of denying something they love - money.

Imagine if the Dees fans en masse took this approach as a once-off.  Media would go ballistic but the point would be well-made.

Assuming common sense (or decency) from the AFL is a big leap. 

Agree 100% re Gus: too bad about the other guy.  

Of course the body running (or ruining*) OUR game will yet again make a ruling in the run. It is their specialty.

Correct on this Mono,  but when you read the interveiw of the late Duncan Wright towards the end of his life  he talks about no regrets on the one hand,  then sheds a tear etc,  and feels hard done by that the Pies sacked him.

Don't tell me it didn't affect him.  I know a close member of the Somerville family who told me John was not quite the same after the knockout.

As it will Maynard - no sympathy for him and will be reminding all my Pies friends on the Wright issue.

Feels. I missed the QF thanks to work but KB and r23 the year before were 2 of the worst fan experiences I've had... just as a result of feral fans.

Just think about the consequences of that hit. Maynard should have retired already in my book just because he knows what he did. It's like if you are involved in an accident and someone is seriously injured , and it's your fault.

The inclination would be very hard to ignore, but he must be going through that.

Everyone around him would be telling him he did nothing wrong....and they won a flag and everyone's feeling great down there. So it may not be on the surface right now. But there would be a little voice in his head where he knows what he did and those little voices tend to never  go away do they.

I don't think so I think he's a psycho he's got no feelings, he knew what he did was wrong, when he put his shoulder into his head, if a teammate was blow him he would have put his arms out not tuck his  shoulde, and aimed for his head

In his farewell note Angus made it clear (in my opinion) that his retirement was as a result of that incident.

I think if Maynard had any intent to "make him earn it", head impact or not, then it would eat him inside. Only if contact was a 100% accidental would he have a clear concious.

The great irony in all this is that Maynard's father & brother played for Melbourne & Brayden grew up as a Melbourne supporter.

And lots of Demonlanders were keen on us recruiting him when it was time for contract renewal.

Meanwhile not having a big bodied backup ruckman for Max this season and looking for another skinny 18 year old ruckman in the draft, who will take another 3 years to develop.

I am sure we would all rest a lot easier, having say a 24 year old, 204cm and 102 kg Brynn Teakle, on our list for 1-2 years, playing at Casey, just in case.

We are now 2 players down on the list for the year, or at least until mid season draft, which operates in same order at that time, as National draft does later.

Not sure if any other club is in that position.

If we had a pick now, we could take anyone we wanted who was available.

Anyway it's not happening, so we move on.

That is truly moronic if true. The bigger issue is probably that we didn't bother having any train on players over summer and didn't look past the first round of the draft, so we have no idea what's out there.

We didn't have a train on player because we didn't have any list spots. Pretty simple. Juts because we didn't have a pick past round 1 doesn't mean we don't know what's out there.  Maybe that's exactly why we didn't have a pick past round 1.

Tomlinson got a 5 year deal on $500K a year.  Figure that one out.
