A lot of cobwebs dusted off there.

No injuries.

Young players getting a run.

Could have been worse.

I wouldn't be writing anyone off on this performance but not many players excelled either.

Skills and ball movement will improve... surely

The highlight for me was to be seeing Oliver.

BUT ..... [censored] ..... Fox are not showing the final 3 "quarters" !

EDIT . Take it back - they are showing it !

pros:
- first 20 minutes was champagne football
- Laurie and Billings both had some really good moments, not sold on either but they can both contribute
- Windsor was a mess with his kicks but he made position and surely had 15+ touches?
- Kynan Brown looked comfortable
- Max dominated and then Verrall injected something in the second half
- Kossie (sadly just one of him when we need 2 or 3)

Cons:

- tugboat
- run and carry being too condensed and so easy to defend, need width on the runners
- still not going out the fat side enough
- JVR and Fritsch both stationed too deep, get someone who can draw the ball at half forward
- Schache
- forward pressure was non existent when Kossie was on ball
- midfield pressure poor all game
- half backs gave a heap of room and didn’t show a lot of ability to close space and tackle

My main observation is that we don’t have the skill to be a fast ball movement team. Boundary and pack based play with f50 territory will be 1 wood.

Windsor, Brown look good but will take 1-2 years to really acclimate, but I think they’ll add to our team.

Rivers, Laurie, Billings, Tomo, May,ANB, Fritta, Langdon were disappointing today.

I think Goodwin will be sweating after first 5 rounds.

On that game one would need to agree. Fastball is not just up the middle which is what we try to play. It can also be about fast 45 degree angle play.

Will be interested to see how we set up against Carlton.

February is a bit early for Goody melts IMO but I do appreciate the passion of some on here.

Only caught the last passage and it was all Richmond TBH, but Windsor was busy. I don't think Hunter and even Langdon will be walk up starts this year.

Shame Fox pulled the plug early. Clarry already playing footy in red and blue is a huge WIN relative to a month or two ago. EDIT: It's back and I got it going just in time to see Clarry snag a left-footed goal from the boundary. Glorious.

I know it’s only a praccy, but to lose to a team expected to be bottom 4 further cements my thinking that we’ll slide out of the 8 this year.

Comedy gold some of the reactions.

Last year we looked untouchable after smashing Saints and Tigers in preseason games. This is a rather early start to the season, shattering we ain’t peaking in the middle of Feb.

I find these statements amusing. One could be said about our opponent - they have a new coach with a new plan and arguably more impactful players missing. They have all the more reason to lose this praccy game.

We went 9-3 in preseason games 2016-2020. Not great years except for 18.

We went 1-2 in preseason games 2021-2023. Great years.

Richmond went 4-3 in their flag winning years.

It's zero indicator of season performance.

Relax.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
