Considering that the only five-and-a-half-quarters where we looked like potential premiers in 2023 was when H. Petty was playing at full forward and kicking goals...

...no.

I would, based on Petty's injuries and his inconsistencies. He may play at his best next year but I am not betting on it.

Or for 1, we could just give WCE picks 6, 10 and F1st and keep 11.

Or for 1, give WCE 6, 11 and F1st and keep Petty

I can only see Norf getting 1 if they give up 2 and 3, or split one of these to get another pick inside 10

These convoluted mega trades do my head in

I tend to agree with @Damo above, I’d take it.

I love Petty and would be pretty shattered to lose him as I think he’s great when up and running, at either end. His journey so far has been very stop start, so he could be perennially injured.

Hypothetically, if we got pick one though, I’d go to North to split it rather than take Reid. Then we could grab two of McKercher/Sanders and Duursma and fill two gaps instantly, bringing the level of our whole 18 up, rather than just one player

I can't see us getting our hands on this pick. North have a suite of picks and can trump anyone's offer to WC.

I'm quite happy for JT to take our picks to the draft and bring in some top end talent to the club

Pick 1 in my mind is not worth it, I’d trade up for 2 top 10 picks, but not 1. It is cursed!!

Trading Petty only works if:

1) we take a KPD ( Curtain/ O Sullivan) this year and have faith in our youth - Turner etc.

2) We have a pretty good feeling that one of TMac / BBB will be able to play the 1st/2nd tall.

3) we have a good feeling that we will secure an out of contract KPF next year although we don’t seem to have any draft capital to make this work.

3 first round picks and Petty?
ummm, hell no!  I know there is talk about 6,11 and F1 for Pick1, but I think we'd want change in return later on (for Brown)

.... that means Petty for McAdam!

Lemme guess Adam Cooney came up with that megatrade?  I swear they just give him the megatrades to stop him from contributing too much to the conversation!

Spot on, that proposed trade is junk.

If we are making a play for the number 1 pick & Reid there are going to be alot of dissapointed people who want us to change our game plan. This would signify we are doubling down on it.

The bloke is a human battering ram that gets it forward at all costs. I haven't seen any evidence he kicks like Nick Daicos.

Really?

Never watched him live but all of the vision of Reid I have viewed indicates his DE is pretty tidy and can drop deft kicks on chests in tight areas.
his ability to fend off, pivot and clear the footy shows great vision and decision making.

I hope we sell the farm for this kid.

No I wouldn’t.

Petty is a premiership defender who also can be a target up fwd.

I know nothing about this years draft crop except for what I’ve seen on YouTube and read on line. When I asked earlier about Reid’s kicking I was told it’s good but not elite. You can can argue the whole Petracca / Danger aren’t elite kicks either they’ve both proven themselves already.

Add to that May has maybe 2-3 years left and Petty is only 23.

if WC trade pick 1 it’ll be north that get it.

they’ve offered 4 picks and been rejected. they end up include pick 3 in the batch and get the deal done

The all of the picks Nth offered were outside the top 10 though... Nth didn't offer 2 or 3. The picks we have would be more valuable that picks in the late teens.

What 4 picks have they offered?

WC want picks 2 and 3

so fair to say negotiations are at the early  stages!

How is 15,18,21 better than 6,11 and F1st that Melbourne have?

it’s not but it’s a negotiation. Nth will give up 3, 15, 18 plus…

or even 2 instead of 3 depending on who WC want

Not bad getting Reid for Mackay comp

7, 11, ff, and Van Rooyen to Eagles.

Should get it done.

You've baited that hook nicely.

Yes, Demonland’s biggest Sturgeon has gone fishing…

  • PREVIEW: Port Adelaide

With both sides precariously positioned ahead of the run home to the finals, only one team involved in Sunday’s clash at the Adelaide Oval between the Power and the Demons will remain a contender when it’s over.  On current form, that one team has to be Melbourne which narrowly missed out on defeating the competition’s power house Collingwood on King's Birthday and also recently overpowered both 2024 Grand Finalists. Conversely, Port Adelaide snapped out of a four-game losing streak with a win against the Giants in Canberra. Although they will be rejuvenated following that victory, their performances during that run of losses were sub par and resulted in some embarrassing blow out defeats.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

The media focus on the fiery interaction between Max Gawn and Steven May at the end of the game was unfortunate because it took away the gloss from Melbourne’s performance in winning almost everywhere but on the scoreboard in its Kings Birthday clash with Collingwood at the MCG. It was a real battle reminiscent of the good old days when the rivalry between the two clubs was at its height and a fitting contest to celebrate the 2025 Australian of the Year, Neale Daniher and his superb work to bring the campaign to raise funds for motor neurone disease awareness to the forefront. Notwithstanding the fact that the Magpies snatched a one point victory from his old club, Daniher would be proud of the fact that his Demons fought tooth and nail to win the keenly contested game in front of 77,761 fans.

  • PREGAME: Port Adelaide

The Demons are set to embark on a four-week road trip that takes them across the country, with two games in Adelaide and a clash on the Gold Coast, broken up by a mid-season bye. Next up is a meeting with the inconsistent Port Adelaide at Adelaide Oval. Who comes in and who goes out?

  • POSTGAME: Collingwood

Despite effectively playing against four extra opponents, the Dees controlled much of the match. However, their inaccuracy in front of goal and inability to convert dominance in clearances and inside 50s ultimately cost them dearly, falling to a heartbreaking one-point loss on King’s Birthday.
