Jack Nicholson says “no no no”.

Jack Billings.  What were we thinking.  We helped the Saints with a salary dump and got a small ineffective declining player who offers nothing to our list.  We had small forwards.  His skills are very average and goalkicking is poor to be fair. Defensively poor. Tackling is weak.  His attempted marking spoil was Harrison on Monday was symbolic.  Ran, looked, “stopped”, then sought of tried.  Then walked away.  He is a barely a shadow of a player now.
My no no no call remains.

Unfortunately he has shown nothing of interest and not shown much interest either.

The Billings disappointment, McAdam injury/disappointment, and Hunter injury/decline are three clear reasons our attempt to improve our movement forward has made so little progress.

Doesn't excuse the overall failure of team vision but it is definitely a hole that was filled with more hole.

" a hole filled with more hole" its sadly true. Billings is the one for me. I mean he is such an everage kick of the football and a slow / poor decision maker.  At some point that hole within a hole turns into  a black hole doesnt it ...and starts sucking the life out of the team.

Had high hopes for Billings, thought he may prosper in a new environment.

Will give him a little bit of benefit of the doubt because we're not the most cohesive unit at present but fella needs to lift. On this evidence not sure we'll see much of him in 2025.

Strikes me as a 'cherry on top' kind of player.

It's no surprise that his best two games for us corresponded with arguably our two best four quarter efforts of the year which were the Dogs and Hawks games.

Harmes had been rubbish for us since the flag, the revisionism here is a bit much. He's had a couple of good games for the Dogs when it's been going their way, but then so has Billings.

No question Billings has been a disappointment. Very low risk trade but at the moment he is wasting a spot in the 23 that could easily go to a younger player. At 28 and decade of disappointment I can't see him turning it around either.

As a replacement Billings has given us nothing. It all adds up

10 years of mediocrity not enough of a sample size? What did we expect? Is it because he was a pick 4 ten years ago ? Players like this don’t change just because they’re in different colours. We brought him in to help with the inside 50 connection and he can’t kick, did Tim Lamb watch any of his footy the past couple of years? 🤦‍♂️

Any hole 🕳 no matter the size is a deep, dark place to be in.

He was supposed to be recruiting for his elite kicking skills. I've watched him closely this year and I'm far from convinced. Seems to be in two minds when he disposes of the ball and has turned it over on more than a few occasions without any real pressure on him.

I thought Billo would be decent for us but he has been a big bust along with Hunter though Hunter was servicable last year before injury.

Our trading for established players after 2020 has been biss poor and Tim Lamb has to shoulder alot of that burden.

At first I thought it was low risk high reward but he's turning out to be a bit of a liability. Not enough tank to play wing, not enough pressure to be the high HFF. Neither fish nor fowl.

As Roy said, will give him a bit more time as it's hard to judge anyone right now but it doesn't look like a long stay.

He’s absolutely been a reflection of our season.

He was horrid coming off the bench against Sydney.

Played his best 2 games of the year against Dogs and Hawthorn, which incidentally were our 2 best wins of the year from a dominance and quality of opposition point of view.

Was patchy in the Adelaide double, as were we.

Both he and club have been inconsistent to poor ever since.

Goodwin didn’t help his confidence by starting him as sub in opening round.

Yep. I don't really mind us taking a punt. I do really mind going back to him immediately after a completely warranted return to the reserves.

Was brought in for our new method.
Plays without confidence. Play him in the VFL at half back so he can learn to defend and get some easy ball. Like they have done with AMW.

Hasn’t exactly delivered a huge return for AMW or the club at senior level has it ?

I think there is still some upside with Billings, definitely more so than with Hunter, but he has been disappointing thus far. I think we can categorically say that the sub role doesn't suit him after two failed attempts.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
