I wonder if turner has an effect. He looked like he belonged last night and imposes himself being one more big forward who's good in the air and needs a good defender.

I think we saw our best forward set up last night. Should have had 5 more goals with improved composure.

Not my opinion. One that has been smashed into me repeatedly since last year by people who work in the industry. 
 

I guess we could change his mind but my understanding is that he will ask to be traded again this offseason.

that's fine, he can ask all he wants

but the crom - or the pear - still need to come to the party with trade assets

by the end of 2024 he'll be a two time premiership player - one as a key back, one as a key forward

And just looking at the Frittata sealer, how much was that due to Petty's incredible closing and carefully judged spoil?  Not recorded as a goal assist but it certainly was.

Probably Harrison's best game - even despite his 6 goal haul v Tigers last year.   His work up the ground was impressive and vital.  

Glad he silenced all the doubters.

Coming off a major foot surgery that can take a full year to recover from. Also had that toe issue that limited some of his preparation as well. 

He's an ultra competitive player who at his best is vital to our success. He takes a good defender, presents at the ball well and straightens up the whole side with the added flexibility to go back if an injury occurs which is an underrated asset. 

He'll have his down games as all key forwards do but, stick fat. He'll get fitter and fitter as the year goes on and gain more confidence every week. It also works better when we have the 3 tall forwards playing in the structure similar to our premiership trio of Brown, Mcdonald and Jackson. 

Hopefully Petty can build on this and have a huge back half of the year! Go Dees

 

P.S. Really like Disco in the forward set up to take another big defender

When you say ‘any posters’ are you suggesting there was more than just me?

In my defence I did state (with stats) that the key to Harry’s game is his marking. Good to see on Saturday it was more than that. Tackling, competing and at least one deft touch.

There were several posters who wanted him dropped in the lead up to the Geelong game.  Some like yourself have owned it, others haven't.

I baked myself a humble pie after looking at my preseason posting, happy to bake another for a few of you who dismissed Petty. I make it with lemons, nice and sour.

It's an interesting conundrum keeping out of form players in the side - too good for VFL, and likely won't hone their skills in a scrappier league, but how long do you persist for?

Glad they did with Petts, because his pack mark clunking is super important for us, but I do wonder about Billings - who you know right at this point in time won't kick the goal when the opportunity arises for him. I do like that he's a good sub-out option all things going well, and that he continues to get a chance to work through his form/kicking issues.

Came back to this thread hoping to enjoy some genuine contrition from posters who were moronically bagging Harry Petty before Saturday. You know who you are, one in particular who went hard, embarrassingly repetitive, and personal. Apart from @M_9 and @Roost it far’s really owning their comments though, the others have been pathetically conditional with their mea culpas. As @The Chief said, that’s the best contested marking game for an MFC forward since David Neitz. That’s the kind of player the FD think Petty can measure up to.
        But here’s the thing. He was coming off an injury that is too frequently a career killer, had another foot issue during his rehab and pre-season which took him off weight-bearing, and that’s simply a rubbish prep for a season. Horrible. And then some. He played half a game in the VFL and did nothing. Nonetheless, the FD brought him back to big show the very next week. For those on here who lost their minds at this selection, why do you think the selectors did that? They would never have expected him to perform to anywhere near his best under those circumstances, yet they had a plan. Saturday showed just how much it was the right plan. Petty is essential to our flag tilt this year, in a forward line that has familiarity with each other, and some [censored]ing continuity (fingers firmly crossed). Some, or maybe most of us got it. Geez, I hope people think a bit deeper next time.

When has he asked to be traded before? My understanding is that the noise is more to do with media hype and AFC playing games

It wasn’t that long ago that Pickett was definitely going 

I’m not sure why he would want to leave a club that is a genuine chance of a cup vs a club that for the foreseeable future will be simply making up the numbers imo

I never did anything other than back him in so count me out. My preseason comments were club focused. Besides this is a footy forum, we’re hear to listen to opinions. Some turn out wrong others don’t. It’s all part of the ride.

He still has one and half years on his current contract. No doubt his management will recommended  contract until free agency. Personally, I wouldn’t want to go beyond that either given his recent run of injuries. So maybe a 2-3 year extension for now is best for both parities.

If we go beyond that we are really putting ourselves at risk but completely understand if we did. 

Petty simply playing out his contract is a great result for us. I hope he is happy with us and will decide to re-sign when the time comes.

Huh? He's a free agent when his contract expires in 2025. He came out of the 2017 draft.

Crows recruitment team have no idea. Poor drafting and illogical trade targeting. Second only to Essendon for worst recruiters in the league.

 

If Petty has chosen to stay, and his management has informed both clubs, it makes sense for Melbourne and Petty to wait until this year's end before re-signing.

Us, because he's injury prone and needs a string of games to show he can stay on the park. Him, because more games like Saturday's would up his contract value
