It does get confusing @Rab D Nesbitt as to which thread is which. As a collection of threads, I feel that  Demonland has provided us with interesting debates and insights into issues such as:

  • Irish real estate

Go Harrison, Go Dees!

I resemble that comment!

I'm almost getting nostalgic for Colin Flaubert's long winded historical lectures on morality 😴

Such an obvious solution so that these highly paid chaps can stay near to the dear.

Each state has its own draft.

Ah the benefits:

1. No go home factor

2. The Season also becomes an Instant State of Origin Series

3. Draft nights become a longer more drawn out, even more boring TV mini series satisfying the AFLs desire for more tv exposure in off season.

Is it possible the change of Petty’s tone in the trade period is a result of the turmoil within the club and not the money or the lure home?

I have no doubt Petty was seduced by the massive contract offered by Adelaide which wanted him to go back home. Adelaide needed to find a replacement for Tom Doedee going to Brisbane.

Read my post on this matter I feel it had nothing to do with Clarry or Joel.

All about money. Doubt he was even considering it until $1m was put in front of him.

How can you doubt it when he openly said he'd be open to a move back to SA at some point when there was clearly no reason for him to say so?

Clearly, he has a desire to go home. But respects that we value him and held him to his contract.

The world is not going to fall apart if Petty leaves, relax everyone.

True JimmyG but as previously pointed out Harrison doesn’t come from Adelaide his family live a days drive north of Adelaide. Harrison’s manager would have been made aware of Adelaide’s interest and the size of the bounty.

I’d wanna go home too if someone near-doubled my salary

I'd be open to a move back to my birthplace for $1m a year.

Right now, it's not an option and therefore I'm not considering a move back.

I think the $$$$ may well play a part in this - only a few would know the real situation and I'm sure none of those are posting here.

I am in no way panicking if Petty does want to leave in the future, just giving my opinion based on those interviews.

He was obviously asked quite pointed questions and he basically said, Oh yeah I probably want to move back to Adelaide at some point. That does not scream of a man desperate to get home to me.

So my point was I don't think he was giving it much thought until Adelaide threw money at him.

The bloke you would like to replace him from the Crows if he leaves is Thilthorpe, but unfortunately he is a SA player.

This could all be about driving up his value and then extending with us on renegotiated terms.

Would be a great boost for us if Jefferson had a massive pre season and becomes another best 23 key forward for us.

...never mind all the harrying!

A few good points there.

Just a question is Petty off the land or is he from the town itself ? I couldn't imagine it would be a bustling metropolis.

He schooled in Adelaide, and the major transport hubs (i.e airports etc still would require him to travel via Adelaide)  so it's still closer to home than Melbourne.

Sling him a Jaguar.

At least a Hertz one.

If money is the big attraction, we hold the whip hand. At the end of 2025 Petty will be a restricted free agent. Depending on how highly the Demons rate him, we could choose to match any offer by Adelaide or seek draft compensation. The balance is tipping too far these days towards player power when, unlike their clubs, they can effectively refuse to honour their contracts to chase bigger bucks. But none of us on the outside know Petty's true motivation at this stage for any move. I hope the club will do everything it can to encourage him to stay long-term.

The reporter probably asked the question. All we have to go by is the edited interview. It’s the bits on the cutting room floor that would provide context.

I think they cut the bit where he said his golf game was extraordinary.
