So as soon as another club shows interest in one of our players who is showing abit of form we should trade 'em.
Got it 👌

All these media parasites who think they're club list managers.

I don’t want to lose Petty and I really don’t like to agree with Cornes but I think he’s right here. If Harrison has indicated that he will sign a new contract here then we should hold onto him. If not then it might be wise to trade him now when we can get as much as we can for him.

Petty and 46 for 10,14 and McAdam would work I think.

We can't trade Petty without securing a key forward replacement  to replace him from Round 1 2024.  We're in the premiership window and we need to win games now. That is more important than selling Petty high. And the deal offered by Crows does not come close to selling Petty high.

What evidence do you have that Petty isn’t happy to stay and play for Melbourne?
If he doesn’t come out and ask for a trade then he’s clearly very comfortable and committed to stay.

I didn't say Petty wasn't happy at Melbourne. Please read my comment again, but read the entire thing this time.

I love Petty to bits, i want him to stay as do all us Demons, but I reckon Petty knows deep down he's one injury away from screwing his future up here.

Was the deal 5 years, 1m the first year then 800k the next four?

Will this offer be there for him in 1-2 years time? I don't reckon it will be. He's stated he wants to come back to Adelaide.

Im looking at this from a different lens here, I believe his Partner is from Adelaide? also if they want to start a family in the next 3-4 years his partners parents are going to be helping out part of the time would he get that help in Melbourne with no family? No way.

He is very injury prone, he was injured twice this year playing as a Forward, a significant history with injuries.

If he gets injured again his value will significantly drop from a draft point of view, if he's going to leave next year we won't see this deal again

If this offer from the Crows is Thilthorpe or Fogarty, Pick 10 and McAdam for Petty if it eventuates take it and run i say.

I'd even squeeze them for pick 14 aswell and throw in Neal Bullen or Chandler.

Has he?

The dialogue coming out of Adelaide sounds like it's being run by a 12 year old kid.

Not publicly, but he doesn't have too, many players have been traded without even requesting a trade publicly. See Grundy and Steven May.

The fact that Goodwin has had to sit down with him and convince him to stay, suggests that he has had serious consideration of going home as well as Adelaide's offer.

There's enough smoke there.

he would be crazy not to consider the move with that sort of money being thrown at him

at the same time...he's re-committed himself to the club that he has a further two years under contract with

ultimately after two more premierhips and two colemans he's going to be well-rewarded in the years to come regardless

Agreed, but the post I responded to made it sound like Petty wanted to go back to Adelaide. The only public information we have is that Goodwin spoke to him and he's happy to stay. We've also had posts on this thread claiming he has no desire to leave and is happy at Melbourne. There's no doubt he listened to Adelaide's huge offer, but that's it at this stage.

Adelaide seem to have done a bit of work with Petty, problem for them is they still need to satisfy us

Keep him as a required player like numerous clubs have done before. If he still wants out in two years as an RFA, we'll likely still get a mid to late first round pick as compensation. Which is currently the best Adelaide are offering with McAdam thrown in.

Adelaide are yet to make it an appealing proposition for us. It's like North offering 15, 17, 18 and future end of first (19+) to West Coast. Doesn't go anywhere near satisfying the asset that he is.

If Thilthorpe or Fogerty become part of the equation then we might listen. But I just can't see them offering either player.

Does anyone expect him to not even listen? Of course you need to hear what they have to say.

I'm sure it captured his heart and mind.

Known as a really genuine guy, he has told the coach and his team mates he's staying.

Do we know what sort of money he’s currently on? A decent pay rise might see him sign a longer contract. I’d assume he’d be on around $500k?!

Love Harry but If the Crows offered 10,20 and McAdam for Petty you would have to seriously think about it.

exactly.  of course he'd listen.  who wouldn't be excited by someone promising them to be an instant millionaire next year, even if it grossly overvalued him.

there wouldn't be a demonlander who, if someone offered them to double their salary, wouldn't listen and give it serious consideration.

he's never given any indication of a great desire "to return home"

and finally, the crows need to offer mfc something that reflects the value of what they have offered harry

Only if we landed Darling or someone half decent via a separate trade.

The Zorko situation was more than enough to convince me that this bloke is a special enough person and player that we should make him stay at least for next year. He is not just a piece of cattle and Adelaide must not think much of really any of their players if our Team is totally committed to top four next year and their end just wants to pick up a player that will, in my book upset the balance of their forward structure and their backline.

I'd prefer it stayed that way but its hard to fly under the radar when you are a premiership CHB at 21 and kick bags of goals when you go forward

well one bag of goals. he barely averages a goal a game when fwd

We gave them pick 10 and future pick 10 for Lever. Turned it into Petty.

Will take pick 10 and Pick 14 and received Lever for free. And if they don't want to pay we just keep Petty until RFA. We hold all the cards here.

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
