Hawthorn have obviously planned to be as physical as possible, and the Dees have held up well. But they have run over the marl to push our players multiple times, and the umps just watch them do it. You could see us getting frustrated and starting tk through our weight around. 

I50 delivery has been good. Nice to see a dees team showing some forward connection 

This will be a great win. Eden is phenomenal and has had a great game.

Suburban grounds are great 

Stupid time slot especially with a camera position that was always going to cause a nightmare is the problem

Hanks is a level above. So clean. She got caught htb once this evening but other than that another faultless performance. Best player in the league without a doubt

Another powerful win by a very powerful team.  Loved the way they stood firm, and came to the assistance of their team mates, when the Hawks tried the faux tough stuff. Hanksy, and Pearce the two ‘standouts’ for me, but everyone played their part.  A team of outstanding role players.

Harf made the comment about Campbell...she's already a player but with a few seasons under her belt will be a beauty.

edit: Bodey was quiet tonight...Goldy or a mix? the camera work was so bad it was hard to work out.

Hawks very fumbly but they weren't going to get near The Machine anyway.

Agree with the various player observations (except Birch: harsh!) L. Pearce back to her injury-free(?) best - great chase and smother in front of the DA leading to a goal.

I liked the venue. The timing was fine. Lots of kids. I've never been there before and it was pretty and the afternoon sun held a little warmth, before the night closed in and it got very cold. 

I felt privileged to go and watch the girls. They are a brilliant team. There is a strong chance (touch wood no mozzez) that they'll go through undefeated. They are a beautifully balanced team with a number of stars on every line. Their tall stocks are the envy of the league, their midfield has so much depth and their wildcard players aren't just role players, they are better than that. Kate Hore is an absolute star of the competition. 

Just a note on the umpiring. I thought it was really good. The girls at this stage of the competition take pretty good care of one another. There are very few snipers out there. None on Melbournes team. So if everyone is trying to play the game properly as they mostly are , the need for over umpiring falls away and really they mostly let the girls sort things out and just balled it up when needed. I reckon there may have been as few as 15 - 20 frees payed, with an increase in the last quarter when the game got a bit ratty. It was a good spectacle.

Well done girls. Keep it going. You can set some records that will stand for a long time.

It must have been the work experience kids little brothers and sisters playing with the gear.

How good is Hanks? Birch a rock in defence. Loved the games by the newbies Mackin and Campbell they both have a bright future love the way this team is going about it.

Highlights:

-       - Sister to sister goal for the Mackins and A.Mackin’s debut in general. So confident and clearly been given license to have a go, got more of the footy than her sister!

-      - Hanks with the don’t argue, pure

-      - Purcell doing the tough stuff

-      - Zanker’s 5-minute hat trick (career best goal return)

-      - McNamara’s comeback goal and celebration

-      - Pearce’s smother in the pocket

-      - That end-to-end goal in I forget which qtr

-       - The commentators calling for Sherriff to be shut down in the first qtr. She was doing well, but somehow I doubt that was really a priority for the Hawks!

Lowlights:

-       - The sun

 

Will be interesting to see how we fare against a stronger contender next week. We get away with overusing the footy a bit against teams like the Hawks. I wonder if our backline will rise to more of a challenge…

On Birch, statistically she’s had a slow start but is building (intercepts for first 4 rounds: 0, 5, 8, 8; 2022B avg was 7.2). She’s getting less of the ball... she’s not really the player we want launching our rebound 50s though. Has less time on ground % this season by 10%, though across the board we’re sharing the load more.

The queue of proven/known quantities outside the starting line-up is building (Gay, Fitzsimon, Colvin) which can only be a good thing.

A few random thoughts following my B. Mackin right leg post.

Casey Sherriff will probably never get in the votes.  Just doesn't get enough of the footy. But 2 or 3 times a game she has a "right place right time" moment which often result in goals. 

Despite not kicking bags, Tayla Harris is having a hell of a season. Gets to so many contests,  very team oriented and is a wrecking ball when the opposition has the ball. 

Paxy might play until she's 50

Georgia Campbell is improving by the week. Fantastic heir apparent to Loz.

Goldrick is a modern day Rhino Richards. 

Tyla Hanks has long reminded me of a male player and it annoys me that I've not been able to pin down who it is. Her low to the ground running style,  her vision, her change of direction and her ability to weave through traffic with a shift of her hips. I'm now thinking it's a composite of Gary Ablett Jnr, Cyril Rioli and Lally Bamblett.

Agree with all that you say except for the bolded bit. We could’ve had so many more supporters there today had the scheduling been better. 5pm on a Friday is a sh!ttty time. A pretty decent number of DA members attended but many couldn’t. Pretty rough on them since some of them are diehard W fans who’ve supported our girls since Day One.

And while I’m on a whinge roll… what is it with having to play Geelong at that miserable cesspit AND on a Thursday night???? It’s not enough that our men’s team has to do it every season???!

Obviously I do not know Tayla Harris at all, but you get the feeling that she loves just being a part of the forward line rather than having to carry the whole thing.
When she was at Carlton there was so much focus on her and if she didn’t play well they were no chance to win. To a certain extent she was the face of that club that then became toxic. It says so much of their culture that so many good players have left the Carlton AFLW side while NONE have left ours. 
Coming to us and being mentored by Daisy has worked out so well for both her and this team. She is only 26 and could easily play well into her 30’s. She has found her home

I think it more to do with the strapping she has had on her calf in the past 2-3 weeks.  Probably been kicked there, so has not had the free movement, that she is renowned for.
