Hes been cleared, FMD. I love this club but done with the game.

I’ll join you if Martin gets off tonight as well.

When they tell you the AFL isn’t a corrupt piece of trash organization and you want to believe them. But you can’t.

The fix is in. It’s crystal clear to me that the AFL went to Christian and said “don’t worry mate, we will send this to the Tribunal, will prosecute it for a few minutes and Maynard will get off. Christian withdraws his threat to resign.

Money talks.

Wow. The AFL can enjoy the mega law suits they've just opened themselves up to!

Breathe fire this Friday boys. Please breathe fire.

Well that has opened a can of worms. Anyone can take out an opposing player in the guise of smothering the ball🤬

Maynard grilled by Chairman

Chairman Jeff Gleeson has popped in for a few questions.

He wants more clarity on why Maynard thinks he couldn't have outstretched his arms to lessen the impact, rather than turning his body.

"I think, with all due respect, the same outcome would have happened," Maynard said.

"I feel like when I went to smother, it was a flinch reaction, and like I said, he was in my way."

Gleeson asks again why Maynard couldn't have left his arms wide open.

"I feel the same outcome would have happened because it was a collision. It happened very quickly.

"I didn't see him coming down my line. I saw him to the right of me."

If Maynard opts to be putting his arms out, there is NOT the same outcome.  That’s wrong.

Which he essentially is saying does not matter what he was going to do he was going to flattern gus, far better that he tuck his shoulder into gus's head to save himself from getting hurt. yes i think that arguement will go down well with this mob.

Well now anything's fair game. I'm staying off social media. Could only imagine what the ferals are saying

This is [censored] outrageous. How the [censored] can this happen? I’m in disbelief, cannot fathom how they came to this decision. So, bring on the smother!!! It’s a free-for-all. Hope our players smother the [censored] out of every opportunity on Friday. [censored] the AFL.

[censored] YOU AFL

I truly hope they get sued into the ground and cease to exist.

If AFL doesn't appeal this I'm [censored] done

Geez, I hope the AFL have what it takes to exercise (what I believe is their right) to appeal this decision.

I am shocked, seriously.
This will have serious ramifications

The head is no longer safe….

This will cost the AFL $millions….

No worries

Cripps better get a stack hat on.

There’s gonna be football acts all over the ground. Blokes’ heads are literally going to explode

The AFL must appeal the decision if they originally went with a recommended 3+ game penalty

And what a weak effort prosecuting.  It was as if they couldn't be bothered even trying

  • PODCAST: Gold Coast

I’ll be away for the next few weeks, so Binman will be holding the fort for our podcasts covering the Suns, Bombers and Lions matches. As a result, there will be no live podcasts during this period, and we won’t be taking calls or voicemails. Binman will still be dipping into this thread to select a few questions to answer, while also combining the long-form Stats Files podcast with the Demonland Podcast for these shows. Your questions and comments are a huge part of what makes the podcast work, so please post anything you’d like to ask or say below and we’ll do our best to give you a shout-out on the show. Please try to keep each post focused on one specific topic or player to make podcast preparation a little easier. If you have multiple topics you’d like to raise, please put them in separate posts.

It's Game Day and the Demons are back at the MCG and have a massive challenge ahead of them as they take on Premiership contender the Gold Coast Suns. What do you want to see from the Dees today?

  • PREVIEW: Gold Coast

Melbourne’s slow starts have been a troubling theme for a while. Against the Suns, they started slowly in both of their games, they trailed by 5.7.37 to 0.1.1 at quarter time at Peoples First Stadium in Round 16. This season, the story has remained the same and if the Demons fail to shake off this issue against the unbeaten Gold Coast Suns, they will be in serious danger of capitulating once again in their Easter Sunday showdown.
