Will be a close game, but if our boys are able to execute the Flying Smother Bump flawlessly, we will emerge victorious.

Finally something to smile about Wizza.

It's beyond my footballing knowledge as to why you would continually not play a defensive combination that hasn't lost a game since the year 1 of the pandemic.

Lever played his best game in ages when Tomlinson played against the Hawks. I'm not sure what Tomlinson did wrong in round 23 (I thought he was ok on DGB), so it was an interesting selection to go Turner. Surely Tomlinson comes back in to play against JSOS?

I like the idea of Rivers playing significant time in the midfield. To that end I’d have Tomlinson back in (releases Lever).

JJ for Brayshaw. BBB or Grundy for Roo. Woey for Laurie (similar attributes but can score).

Tomlinson is slow. He would have played if McKay was not concussed, but he is a poor match up for Silvagni. Turner is actually a much better match up athletically.

I too am a fan of Tomlinson and I don't see all the negative aspects that the FD sees, but he needs a specific match up. A lumbering tall like a McKay or a resting ruck. I actually thought he would have been a good matchup for McStay as an example.

If we get through to Brisbane, he would need to come in and play, as against Daniher and Hipwood you need two true big talls.

Tomlinson and Grundy in for VR and Brayshaw

I want to see Brodie Grundy in for Jacob van Rooyen.

James Jordon is the logical replacement for Angus Brayshaw.

As for the "super sub"? I don't have a clue. But I am guessing it might be Daniel "Disco" Turner?

Fingers crossed the Demons bloody win! 🤞

2004 GF  Port v Lions  77,000

Excellent research.

The reason why that grand final had such a low crowd was because the MCC section of the Northern Stand was being rebuilt that year.

I would be flabbergasted if people could have rocked up to the G that day and got a ticket at the gate.

My reaction to all the people that want Jordon back in the team.

Angry American Idol GIF

Mostly agree with this, Jordon has taken a step back this year as a player.

Curious though as to who replaces the vital midfield minutes that Brayshaw would have provided?

Let’s hope this last week really galvanises the group with an us v the rest mentality and we are switched on from the 1st bounce

discussion point - it seems the vast majority want Grundy in for Friday.

i would prefer a fwd line of T Mac, Fritsch and Smith. so to not diminish Gawns immense influence in the ruck. After months of Grundy and Gawn not working together and not impacting the score board can people please explain why Grundy should come in?

Cheers 🙂

I do acknowledge if Gawn is properly injured that is a reason but assuming he is fine

If we don't come firing out of the blocks then I for one will be calling for Goodwins head.

We simply cannot play this as a normal game. We cannot get behind by three goals - again.

I'll be with you.

Surely he can manage this.....

But isn't the idea that Carlton will have a resting ruck most of the time so that is the matchup.  May will get Curnow.  Who else gets the resting ruck?  Lever?  Hibberd?  Smith?

Does Grundy want to play for us again or has he checked out?

Out: JVR, Brayshaw and Laurie

In: Grundy, Tomlinson and AMW

Carlton are a strong and physical side so I would be bringing stronger bodies in. Play Grundy as big body midfielder to go with Cripps. Tomlinson in will also allow Rivers to have more midfield minutes. AMZ to come in as sub to bring some energy and run in the final quarter.

AMW sub in his first game in a semi is rediculous. Wont happen

DO IT FOR GUS

Trac, Gawn and Viney will lead the boys to run through brick walls

Rivers replaces Gus’s midfield minutes which IMO is our best option.

Essentially i dont mind this.. I too want Brodie Rucking...  I've explained my thoughts for Max across the HF area..  and Tom out of the square.

Any number of mid ensembles..

If we DON'T  do something a little different... the result wont be.

The system 'we' (s.g.)  so greatly exalts ...just doesn't work above a certain level.

Especially without the cattle...

Might be an interesting game....might not.

Selection will say much.

Very good question.

He's professional..  would love a bit of " told you so"

Would play out of his skin imo

Interesting stats in Carlton v Sydney

1st Half - Sydney played on 11% of the time.  Kicked 2.6.

2nd Half - Sydney played on 37% of the time.  Kicked 7.8

It will be very disappointing if we stick to our stodgy method.  Surely not.  If we take the game on and attack we win this.

Yep, David King called this out on Monday. It was Sydney’s quick ball movement in the second half that troubled Carlton.

I can’t recall a Melbourne game, which in my view, so heavily relies on a match committee getting selection right. Perhaps this is what we’ll be our undoing? In 2021 we barely needed to make a change the last few weeks.

This time, picking Grundy to come in could be a disaster or a master stroke.

Should we add Melksham and Petty to the whiteboard while we're at it?

  • PREVIEW: Collingwood

Way back in March we contemplated the possibility of a Demon resurgence after Simon Goodwin’s summer of love. Many issues at the club had seemingly been addressed, key players were returning from injury and a brand new day was about to dawn. We imagined the coach pulling a rabbit out of a hat. The team would roar up the charts, push aside every opponent and make its way to a Grand Final ending in ultimate triumph with Goody and Max holding the premiership cup aloft under a shower of red and blue ticker tape.

We’re back! That was fun. The Mighty Dees’ Season 10 campaign is off toa flying start with a commanding 48-point winover the Western Bulldogs, retaining the Hampson-Hardeman Cup in style. After a hard-fought first half in slippery conditions, the Dees came out in the second half and showcased their trademark superior class, piling on four goals in the third termand never looked back.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

  • CASEY: Box Hill

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
