surprised. I guess the club feels he has more than he’s shown so far. Hope he does as he didn’t even make the team when we were breaking the emergency glass.

Seems strange from outside the club. They must see something we have all missed. From his point of view why not there would be no other takers.

With concerns over injuries (Brown/Tmac) and long-term futures (Grundy) a 1 year deal seems reasonable to me.

Must’ve played like Matthew Scarlett down back on the weekend

If wishes were horses.

After the last 3 to 4 weeks my gut feel was he would be delisted.  Maybe he was signed 3 to 4 weeks ago!??

Like most defenders on the weekend he was rarely called upon as the ball spent a large majority of time in our forward half

However, the few cameos i saw him involved in were spluttery with a number of fumbles, turnovers and / or very uncertain / slow decision making.

Showed glimpses of reasonable form in the ruck and forward throughout the season but very underwhelming drop off over the last few weeks and looked disinterested against North.

He’s currently our only Gawn backup. He can also cover for TMac, JVR and Petty if injuries hit next year. Clearly happy playing seconds.

If Grundy goes.

While neither are genuine back ups we also have chop out options at present in JVR & to a lessor degree Macca (occasional forward duties only behind JVR) IF he continues on through 2024.

Verral a maybe at some point in 24 but a long way off at present, understandable of course as he's a bare boned rookie still learning the basics.

Would be on light coin.  Lucky  to get another season.

Is Brown going to retire. You'd think JJ will look elsewhere. Cant see him ever getting a regular game same as Baker and Bedford.

Would be hilarious if Hunt wins Eagles B&F.

With potential retirees in Brown/Melky/Hibberd, JJ looking elsewhere and possibly Harmes, and the 'unknown player' who wants to go for more opportunities, thats 6 list changes, which is a lot.  List continuity?

Why?

He certainly isn't going to be playing AFL level any time soon, and is not going to be playing in a Premiership side any day.

He hasn't been used without TMac, BBB, Petty & Fritsch out injured, so what is the value?

Just get another kid in the draft

Josh has kicked 29 goals for Casey so far this year, we have a shortage of fit tall players on the list, Josh is Insurane and I have been harping on about it all year, we need more talls on the list. I hope Will Verrall makes the grade but needs to put in a huge pre- season to get himself right.!!

We really need to go hard shopping for a key forward for the medium term in the off season.

I was thinking the other day about how much luck there is in AFL no matter how much planning etc you do. Richmond were in exactly this position at the end of 2018 having just like us won a Premiership and the next year missing out and desperately needing a key forward. And there was Tom Lynch just sitting there that year and getting picked up for nothing as a free agent. What would they have achieved without him.

Same with Geelong and Cameron.

Imagine what we'd be like if there had been a Tom Lynch sitting around waiting to be plucked for nothing as a free agent.

We'll just have to do it without it. Go Dees!!!! It is indeed time for another.

Grundy gone

BB finished

Tmac finished (or does he have 1 more year left?)

Both BB and Tmac have a year left on their contract.

Tmac will be around next year. I think BB will retire early.

Naughton is one KPF who is out of contract next year. Not sure if he's a RFA or not tho.

I am under the impression that this contract extension for Josh Schache has happened because either Ben Brown and/or Jake Melksham maybe announcing their retirements.

All I can say to Josh Schache is to please learn to play with some AGGRESSION! Do anything! Take up boxing or go to the BJJ/MMA classes that Jack Viney and Christian Petracca are attending that Jack's brother is running. I said this many months ago and sadly Josh still seems lackadaisical. Anyway, I hope he works on this and improves his aggression and attack on the ball over the pre-season.

I guess we have to see how TMac gets on, but with Melksham out (or possibly finishing), BBB probably retiring, Schache at least gives some back up to our already stretched forward line.

A chap who sits behind me at the footy (maybe he posts on here?) has a theory that the coaching staff really rate Schache's ability and are trying to make him hungry. Not sure about that, but a theory nonetheless!
