PREGAME: QF vs Collingwood

I saw Kiss last year (got a free ticket and only went to honour the memory of me when I was six).

I can tell you from experience that this band really needs a lot of explosions and a very dark arena to pull the whole thing off.

Going by the weather trends this year, I have a feeling the GF will be a warm one. Get ready for lots of high-definition  close-ups of some 70+ year-old dudes with black and white streaks melting down their faces, and with nary an explosion to hide behind. Could be “Meatloaf:The Sequel”.

(Mind you, I get a real thrill out of watching disastrous live performances, and thoroughly enjoyed Meatloaf’s set that year)

With a bit of luck, KISS will be the only ones at the MCG on Grand Final Day wearing black and white face paint.

I wonder how well their game style will stand up in very wet conditions.  Handballing through the middle, under pressure in slippery conditions is pretty high risk.

The conditions won't suit them, that's for sure. I honestly think our 5-6 wet games this year are a blessing. We'll know what to expect and how to get it done, learning from our mistakes from last time.

👋

Love your user name!!  An apt play on the Bulldogs' 2021 anthem which we pinched after beating them in the GF much to their displeasure!!

Hoping it is a good omen this year.

Such a pub comment.

"He's a good player but he needs to do it week in week out"

He was making a comment about Kysiah. Who I reckon will have a great finals series, because of the growth in his understanding of his role, emotional maturity and is experienced.

I thought his last half dozen games were good and he has some consistency happening.

It all started after the coaches decided to give him some time at centre bounces.

Got his hands on it early in the quarters, brought his tenacious pressure, and has been adding some goals and X-factor.

@Jaded No More

Commentator looking at his early season form, and not really seeing his growth.

Does anyone know how well Collingwood have gone this year in wet weather games?  I can't recall too many wet games for them, but maybe due to ignorance.

They haven’t played a game in the rain this year. Their game against port was slightly wet but not for 4 quarters.

He was performing, he was just having a sook about being a defender. He wanted the limelight of a forward, but Paul Roos knew he was a defender. Howey thought he'd jump ship and win a flag with the Pies as a forward, and take swipes as our club along the way. The club who plucked him from a life of being a tradie in Tassie no less.

Ungrateful [censored]. Hope he never sees success.

he just didn't like losing more games than winning

he was a speccy star after all and stars must be winners

besides he was a filth supporter pre being salvaged by mfc

Hard to say.

But Gillard said last night that there was huge love inside afl mgt ranks for kiss. He named one and it may have been Dillon but can't remember.

Do the afl execs think they no anything at all about pre game entertainment.

History suggests not.

Except for Barnsey's huge show in 2028

Good point - it’s also worth noting how Goodwin is willing to risk losing individual games, for the betterment of the season. In some of the wet games (particularly when we lost), there was commitment to continuing to play a certain way in the hope that consistency would pay off in the long run. Now that we’re in the finals and the result is all that matters, the FD will have plans to enact should it get wet.

King Gizzard And The Lizard Wizard need to do a GF. King Stingray would be great too.

No Kings Of Leon, though. And for the love of god, keep David King away from the stage.

Being a massive fan I would love this! Might only get one 9 minute song but worth it!

Not a Kiss groupie or anything but I think this works for GF day. Will definitely go nuts for Detroit Rock City!

I reckon the 'we lose in wet weather' is being overplayed on here.

I can't recall all the wet weather games we have lost this year but the ones that stand out are

  • vs Ess- we stuffed up our preparation and travel.
  • vs GWS - kicking for goal was atrocious.  A rare mistake by Lever allowed Kelly to kick a freak 60m goal just before the siren.
  • vs Port - we nearly won on one good quarter of football with Oliver playing it out injured.

They aren't excuse.  We lost.  We wear it.  But I'd be careful of extrapolating that to the stress levels on here about it raining on Thursday night.

Anyway, what is a few mm of rain at the G which has excellent drainage and with a mild wind blowing during the day/evening.

If it is damp it will favour us.  Pies rely on fast, slick ball movement.  We do not.

Whatever the conditions we have this.

I read with interest in this morning's Age that Pendelbury was sprucing that the Collingwood unwashed faithful will make the MCG their Colosseum, presumably with the noise they make. We matched them on Kings Birthday for noise so lets make sure the boys hear us and make the MCG the Collywobbles "living hell".

I dream of hearing late in the fourth quarter the chant of ‘Colliwobble, Colliwobble’ reverberating around the ‘Colosseum’. May it be deafening.

Re who will have more supporters at the game.  It will likely be Coll.  Even tho the allocation general allocation is 50/50 they will dominate the AFL stand and will have almost as many as us in the MCC.

We will just make more noise!!

I just hope all the talk of rain doesn't keep dee fans away.

Yeah but they have crumbers at every contest and others waiting off the pack to move it on

MFC has Kossi chasing screamers  and mids kicking it to packs  with no marking forwards

Got to hand it to Caro.

On footy classified ...Hutch puts the question to Caro.....what do you think of Grundy seen meeting  with Port coach and others here in Melb during during QF finals week?

Caro..... absolutely fine with me!

Imagine if it was Dusty in 2017.  She'd be screaming and howling from the bottom of her lungs.

Can’t wait, my wife and I are flying in from Sydney. My mate and his partner who are Pies supporters are flying in from Perth. I was at a bbq last Saturday explaining this to league supporters and they just couldn’t get….

AFL  is the greatest game in the world, and we’ll be watching the oldest football club in the world play at the greatest sporting stadium. Hopefully back in another couple of weeks to see them hold the cup aloft.

Lesgue tickets are so accessible come finals, says a lot really.

Maybe

Doesn't help them much but.

We are number 1 for ground ball gets inside 50 and number 1or 2 for ground ball get differential

The pies are worse than mid table for both stats..

Kiss (... or rather 'Kizz' for the diehards) proving divisive. Worthy of own thread, or maybe 'lands first ever referendum??

Lorna Shore would be great. If not for the half-time entertainment, then perhaps our amp up song.

"To the hellfire" would work well.

*not for delicate ears

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
