Been a busy week at work, sorry for the delay!Ā  Here's a bumper edition of comments from not one... but two Swans forums!Ā  BBO, LH, please come back and reassumeĀ the mantle :')

Ā

For Swans, they certainly are crowing

First Swans-Melbourne game at the SCG since 2019.Ā  As ever I think the Swans best can win it, and they have a few positive psychological factors: at home for the last H&A game, on a winning streak and perhaps a good send-off for the retirees

Ā

Big game and a potential finals rival . Would send a big warning to the rest of the competition if we can knock them off.Ā  I don't believe they are playing at their peak , but we will need a 4 quarter effort .

Ā

I hope we win so we can shut all the people up who are saying we're lucky to make finalsĀ  ...and if it's not too much to ask for, Adelaide to lose to West Coast.

Ā

This next post was followed by some well made points but I'm going to cherry pick it out of context anyway!

This is an absolute must win game. No point limping into the finals to be eliminated week 1.

Ā

Some turned the other cheek...

I personally dont think this week matters as much. Id put health and availability over the first week matchup.

Ā

Well let’s be real we’ve had a fair portion of luck to make it to September anything more is a bonus. We win a final from where we were surely that’s a good result

Ā

It has to be a Dees goal near the end of the game that gets reviewed before the bounce and comes back..... deelicious!

Ā

I wouldn't be surprised if Melbourne rest players [...]Ā Not saying they'll tank, but I think they'll tank

Response:Ā  they have a long storied history of tanking... so it makes sense really

Ā

Some red and white views about some recent controversies...

It's amazing that for all the times we failed throughout the season. We were gifted two wins and effectively got a free pass into finals

Ā

Dane Rampe defence [...] Little did they realise that they would need to roll out this defence again so soon, and in a week when the club is Public Enemy No 1 after we single-handedly ruined the Crows’ rampant premiership thrust.

Ā

If we weren't already the scourge of the AFL media before this, the knives will be sharpening as I write.

Ā

Bwahahahaha.Ā  Gil will impose another trade ban on his way out the door the way we’re going.

Ā

I do feel for McAdam, but it was an accident caused by the last second wicked ball bounce and the comparative stature of the players.

Ā

Magnifique!Ā  Now if we can just get our legal eagles on to helping the goal umpire that was stood down back on the active list and shipped to the SCG that’d be great!

Ā

These ones made me laughĀ

(About JMac being injured)Ā  How dare you mention the dreaded 4-6 weeks!! And this close to finals.Ā  Wash your mouth out!!

Ā

I’d just like to see the boys run through a banner that says:Ā  ā€œIT HIT THE POSTā€

Ā

No one should be re-posting from the Crows board - its against BF rules. But they are going nuts on twitter right now. Its hilarious. [Editor's note:Ā  cue a page of gifs aping the Crows board meltdown]

Ā

Spare a thought for Melbourne though, whose game last week was arguably more intense and difficult than ours. I heard they're so distraught over the Finn Maginness tag on Clayton Oliver that both player and coach might be taking personal leave this week. Watch this space

My least fave since Grundy is my fave šŸ™ƒ

Hope someone remembers to give Grundy a tour of the new training facilities and a couple of good Sydney cafes while he’s in town.
Ā

Ā

I thought Sydney Supporters would be a little more humble this week.Ā
Ā

What a stupid thing to expect!!!

they deserve a good belting.

Their arrogance is truly bizarre. Smashed in the granny and barely got to finals thanks to a some lucky breaks.Ā
I guess when the AFL is spoon feeding you at every opportunity, you grow into an entitled brat.Ā

JVR debut game? Feels like yesterday, wow time flies.

Ā

I'll take them all down to Cross and give them allĀ  a strapping and then we'll go for a Mandarin Clubbing.

Sydney fans are nothing more than theatre goers. Start losing and off they drop. Lowest form of life. Will always be second rate event in NRL heartland.

Please, show Grundy the cafes in Sydney, then he'll see how [censored] they are, and he'll choose to stay.

Swans fans are next level smug. They need another 26-game losing streak.

They're incredibly smug, given they're a bunch of rugby league nufties who don't know how to play Aussie Rules.

The Red and White Online forum seemed to have some more balanced views on the game, but even then...!

Do you remember who the Swans beat to break that losing streak ?Ā  Ā

the swans fans i know are, mostly, old school 'bloods' who stuck with their team after they headed north

their hardcore fans are as passionate about footy as we areĀ

I agree, but there aren't to many of them in Sydney.Ā  Mostly they're South Melbourne fans

Coincidentally I had a truly superb coffee from a little place in Ashfield just yesterday. On the one hand it was a great moment of actually tasting the coffee and getting that really satisfying feeling... on the other hand... it made me realise how bland even the 'fancy' places tend to be here.

There was more difference between this excellent coffee and a 'normal' Sydney cafe coffee, than there is between a normal cafe coffee and my zero care instant coffee while staring at dirty dishes in the morning!

Anyway, if anyone travelling up feels like a non-CBD experience at a tiny local cafe, 'Ashfield Apothecery' genuinely cares about what it does.

Also, Sydney can get stuffed.

Another thing they are saying is '$50 for an obstructed view seat in the nose-bleeds ought to keep the riff-raff out.'

Fun fact - you can't actually see Sydney from the bridge.

Yes. Yes. And ohhhh yes.

You’d think there’d be a little humility shown considering what got them to 7th on the ladder, ie. the worst, most costly goal-umpiring decision ever. They KNOW they didn’t win that match. They also know Tom McCartin shouldn’t be playing this week, yet they’re carrying on like they’ve earned 7th place the same way we’ve earned 4th… without any help from the AFL.

Don't forget the interchange debacle against North.

Sydney, Geelong and Port are AFL's love children.

Many (many) moons ago, I lived in the harbour city. Ā I would go to the SCG for demons games and go off my nut. Ā No swans fan had a clue about the game, the rules or anything. Ā They have had access to lots of talent and the cola to keep things nice. Their arrogance is galling. Ā Going to revisit the SCG this week, will probably go off my nut and reckon most of the crowd will still know squat about the game.

It's Game Day and the Demons have a chance to notch up their third consecutive win — something they haven’t done since Round 5, 2024. But to do it, they’ll need to exorcise the Demons of last year’s disastrous trip out West. Can the Dees continue their momentum, right the wrongs of that fateful clash, and take another step up the ladder on the road to redemption?

  • FEATURE: 1925

A hundred years ago today, on 2 May 1925, Melbourne kicked off the new season with a 47 point victory over St Kilda to take top place on the VFL ladder after the opening round of the new season.Ā  Top place was a relatively unknown position for the team then known as the ā€œFuchsias.ā€ They had finished last in 1923 and rose by only one place in the following year although the final home and away round heralded a promise of things to come when they surprised the eventual premiers Essendon. That victory set the stage for more improvement and it came rapidly. In this series, I will tell the story of how the 1925 season unfolded for the Melbourne Football Club and how it made the VFL finals for the first time in a decade on the way to the ultimate triumph a year later.
