Nic Naitanui Retires

Who was better? Nic Nat or [censored] and Swimming?

[censored] = type of bird that rhymes with pits.

Feels so long since he's played, thought he was already retired

Blue footed booby

I thought he had retired a few years ago.

Meth Coke certainly know how to List Manage

He had some great moments and games but for mine one of the most overrated footballers in the past 20 years.

Was great at hit outs and follow up clearances in his prime but mostly awful around the ground and a terrible mark for his size. The way the commentators used to go on about him probably skews my judgement, but it was unbearable at times.

He had high impact, but he didn't impact often enough.

Still achieved more than the Watts, so credit to him.

Very good player in his day but like the rest of the WC list, has tailed off noticeably the last few years. Their attitude to conditioning left a lot to be desired. The whole club needs a clear out.

I didn't rate him as highly as many in the media or past players, but his very best was brilliant, exciting, and sometimes helped win matches. But he only ever played 5 brilliant games per season, and was often overweight and unfit. Great person though - everyone who knew him loved and liked him.

Despite the fact he hasn't played for two years, the All-Australian selectors will find a place for him in the squad.

As captain no less… or is that role reserved for Selwood?

He was exceptional in the clearances and blessed with an amazing leap - better than Brandon Starc.

We were going to take him with our No.1 pick all year in 2008, but when Jack Watts took an exceptional mark and kicked the winning goal in the U18 Aust Champs, we switched plans.

And it was because we did that we ended up with big Maxy the following year. Sliding doors moment!

Just an absurd athlete.

Remember watching him live against us and at a neutral game in the same season when he was in his prime and my god, unbelievably agile and back then he looked like he could go from standing to full sprint in a matter of 3-4 steps. All whilst being about 110kg.

Compared Them on footywire. Watts leads quite  few stats despite playing  around 30 fewer games.

And Fritsch as a result of trading Watts to Port

It worked out alright 😉

A player repeatedly touted as a Demon recruiting blunder retires on the same day as a player repeatedly touted as a StKilda recruiting blunder, which handed the Demons a recruiting bonanza. What goes around...

Who'll be first to send condolences to the West Australian media who'll now have to find someone else to bombard their front pages and news bulletins.

They’ve still got Bec Judd😂😂😂

Took a massive grab right in front of me once to win a pre-season game in Perth. My hotdog was even worse than possibly imaginable. But I got free transport tickets to the ground, and beers only cost $27 per cup.

  • PODCAST: Gold Coast

I’ll be away for the next few weeks, so Binman will be holding the fort for our podcasts covering the Suns, Bombers and Lions matches. As a result, there will be no live podcasts during this period, and we won’t be taking calls or voicemails. Binman will still be dipping into this thread to select a few questions to answer, while also combining the long-form Stats Files podcast with the Demonland Podcast for these shows. Your questions and comments are a huge part of what makes the podcast work, so please post anything you’d like to ask or say below and we’ll do our best to give you a shout-out on the show. Please try to keep each post focused on one specific topic or player to make podcast preparation a little easier. If you have multiple topics you’d like to raise, please put them in separate posts.

  • PREVIEW: Gold Coast

Melbourne’s slow starts have been a troubling theme for a while. Against the Suns, they started slowly in both of their games, they trailed by 5.7.37 to 0.1.1 at quarter time at Peoples First Stadium in Round 16. This season, the story has remained the same and if the Demons fail to shake off this issue against the unbeaten Gold Coast Suns, they will be in serious danger of capitulating once again in their Easter Sunday showdown.
