I’ll be listening in from Athens on Sunday.

6:20am is a good time to be playing with 36 degrees predicted.

Oh … wait …

That's the Athens I know!

It is important we don't underestimate the Kangaroos.

However, I agree that Viney and Gawn are a bit "banged up" and a little bit of a rest wouldn't be such a bad idea.

Where's the evidence that Gawn is a "bit banged up"? can't see it myself.

Flying down to Hobart tomorrow for a look around and a bit of a break, game sunday home monday. Hope the boys put on a convincing win.

Is that a long or a short wind? 🙂

Good question, not sure of the answer, but i'm pretty sure they call it Mariah.

Or perhaps if it's bending down to give us a rainbow, everyone knows it's Windy.

Rule of the Week

Ahhhh. This is what absolutely [censored] me with the AFL. The roll-out of "Rule of the Week"

It changes most weeks, then the following week it disappears. And when they do knuckle down on one rule a lot of the time it's barely even there. It's hard to watch and I'd imagine frustrating to play against as it's relaxed the following week. The rules are already written in black and white, just do your job and umpire those rules each week without the need to escalate things. Sure, send the club a reminder each week for educational purposes, but don't go pinging free kicks left right and centre for a different rule each week. Rant over.

If nothing else I am confident the FD have given a lot of thought to the factors that resulted in our straight sets exit last year and have plans to prevent those factors from recurring.

I would agree with most posters here that having our key players as fit and free from injury as much as humanly possible come Septmber is paramount.

Theoretically there are many ways to achieve that and it doesn't necessarily have to be through players missing games...that said I can't see why we'd be putting Gawn on a plane to Hobart if we didn't have to.

Max's last year?  Is this a real possibility??

No chance

Agree with this.

Give Schache a go too, why not?  Rest Max for Grundy.  Other things not sure.  Oliver shouldn't play either yet.

I really don't like the idea of Schache playing in the ones.  He has all the physical presence of wet lettuce.  We need to make sure all the players are doing what is being asked of them, or at least trying to.  He has shown throughout his career that he's a good kick but no toughness. Nothing personal against him, just don't think he's MFC material.  Would have welcomed him into the side 10 years ago, but not now.

Similarly, Harmes needs to get out of the ones; his skills are just not up to where they need to be.  Get Sparrow in if fit or blood a young player.

I don't mind the idea of Grundy starting on the bench and rotating with Gawn, or Gawn resting on the half back line for intercepts.

Tomlinson should be given a go to see how he goes with an extended run.  We will need another tall down there if Petty is staying forward.  That being said, being tested against North isn't a great test for Finals readiness.

Spargs for Woey is the only other one that really comes to mind.

In: Smith, Sparrow, Hibberd (Sub).

Out: Tomlinson, Jordon.

On the edge: Woey.

Dannyz IS the opinion AND the source 😁

For people going to this match are you buying tickets at the gate or buying them before you fly out?

I emailed the club and got a response due to heavy traffic it may take 3-5 days to respond. Honestly it's not hard to reply

I recommend contacting Demon Army for some tickets!

I booked through them (the advance option where your register interest) but the volunteers in charge of tickets are miracle workers.  @WalkingCivilWar would agree!

I booked through the AFL site. Go to fixture and the Melbourne game it's got a link to tickets. I book in the Ponting stand no idea about how good the sears are. I believe the ferry to the ground don't run on Sunday's so bus or taxi.

A white coat & a quick once over with No.4 clippers by a drunken hair dresser and bob's your uncle!

Or is it the wind that cries Mary? Or the whispering wind on which the staircase lies?

its a small ground so imagine most seats would be more than adequate. I'm about to book tickets myself, excited onya Dees!

Don’t get me started, DP! 😁

An amazing bunch of people. They go out of their way every single week to try to make sure no one is left out. And ticketing is just one of many, many things they do for our Club and our fans.

PS: see you in Hobart!

It’s Game Day, and the Demons are staring down the barrel of an 0-5 start for the first time since 2012 as they take on Essendon at Adelaide Oval for Gather Round. In that forgettable season, Melbourne finally broke their drought by toppling the Bombers. Can lightning strike twice? Will the Dees turn their nightmare start around and breathe life back into 2025?

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

As the focus of the AFL moves exclusively to South Australia for Gather Round, the question is raised as to what are we going to get from the  Melbourne Football Club this weekend? Will it be a repeat of the slop fest of the last three weeks that have seen the team score a measly 174 points and concede 310 or will a return to the City of Churches and the scene where they performed at their best in 2024 act as a wakeup call and bring them out of their early season reverie?  Or will the sleepy Dees treat their fans to a reenactment of their lazy effort from the first Gather Round of two years ago when they allowed the Bombers to trample all over them on a soggy and wet Adelaide Oval? The two examples from above tell us how fickle form can be in football. Last year, a committed group of players turned up in Adelaide with a businesslike mindset. They had a plan, went in confidently and hard for the football and kicked winning scores against both home teams in a difficult environment for visitors. And they repeated that sort of effort later in the season when they played Essendon at the MCG.
