Torquay apparently.

Had 2021 written all over it, that last quarter.

That song with the families was fantastic.

It certainly was! It's really embracing everybody in the club and family. Loved it.

This is what a love about 2023.

The club has bought in new blood and experimented with the list. McVee, Chandler (as a regular), Woey Jnr and JVR. We have traded in proven talent to strengthen the list, Hunter and Grundy.

After today the obvious!! Petty as a forward. I never agreed with the nay sayers saying he ain’t a forward. He is out best option. If not kicking goals, he is agile, good aerially, competes defensively and on the ground. Today the opposition will take notice. He will now get in the head of opposition coaches and players as a forward. Throw in JVR, who is also multi dimensional, we are less predictable in our weakness. KPF’s. My Caveat to this is BBB and TMac were instrumental in a Premiership and should be celebrated in our history. Injury and age have caught up with their great careers.

Our midfield has more options. JJ, Sparrow, Brayshaw (playing more in recent times), Pickett, Rivers are there to provide a contest and contribute to our intercept game, and we still have Viney, Trac and Oliver……

Big tick to our coaching staff for all of the above and recognising our contest style of game was outdated, focusing on an intercept game (the new trend), whilst never giving up on our strength. Our defence.

I’m enjoying this year so much more than last year. Let’s hope it’s as good as 2021.

We would be 2nd on the ladder if we had one more win

If that one win had been the Port game we would be a game clear in 2nd.

The rest of the top 4 lost. We won. It’s almost August. We are getting good at the right time. 2 matches against bottom 3 sides left in the year. We’re finishing 2nd. The Carlton game is gonna be awesome.

Ivan poked the bear & Max went I'll show you

But I think I heard max say Goody gave him a bit of a spray at half time. He responded

An intense high pressure cracking game !!!

The toiges did us for pressure and intensity early and had our measure.

But .... along came Max ... big bad Max the mountain!!!

You will NEVER see a better performance in the ruck - EVER !!!!

A number of other top performances but I must single out Petty. He played more like  a forward than any other forward ( bar Fitta ) than we have played this year.

A very tough game - fortunate to have Norf next week.

There is a feeling in the Bitter nethers that says, " this is our year" !

GO DEES !!!!!

Agree with everything Uncle, however his 5 goals against Geelong in the 2021 prelim was also up there.

It can't be understated how impressive Jake Melksham has been in the absence of Bayley Fritsch.

He's gone from a surefire delist at seasons end to warranting another contract for 2024.

Have we actually worked out our forward line?

Technically no, I’d like Melksham to stay in when Fritsch returns.

We’ll overtake the lions next week on percentage and port if they lose to the cats.

Reckon I’ll he barracking for Geelong for the first time in my life next weekend

I was wrong.

Richmond really brought the heat and got out to 20pts three times. But we withstood and Max drove us home. That was a truly great win in an epic contest.

Petty and the Tiger breakers.

I’m glad the match committee and selectors thought Petty can play as a forward. Where’s Picket Fence?

So much for my stupid nightmares. That was a very impressive win against a fairly decent side. If Max is not the best ruckman I have seen then you can tinkle me pinkles.

What a weird game!

Hated the ball pinging around early and likes of Dusty getting on the end of three.

Second half was excellent and the last quarter thanks to Max and others the ball just stayed in our half.

Less mistakes by our backline this week.

Petty's contested marks brilliant.

Viney is such a warrior.

JVR great kicking at goal.

Some of McVee's running out of the backline was spectacular.

Salem came good in the second half.

Woey and Harmes were a huge worry.

Give yourself a jolly good thrashing BDA !

We will fit Oliver back in, but not sure Fritz will be a shoe in,

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterday’s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown and  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
