Harley is all about Harley.

Talent only gets you so far.

At this stage of his career is a poorly disciplined player. Gets sucked in too easy with niggle and loses composure. Last season gave up the most free kicks ever for a WC player in a game.

yet. which he also said is quite typical for young footballers. He mentioned the likes of N Daicos and W Ashcroft are more the exception that the norm and that he will come around.

Just shows that he may night be the brightest fella. He will still be a great footballer and i think will end up pushing past N Daicos and W Ashcroft.

It’s going to be ludicrous sums. I’m not sure you can build a team like that. I wonder what Jackson will cost us if he and Pickett agree to trade places.

He’ll probably end up going to Geelong for $400k because of the “climate”

There is no way we trade our only key forward

Neither did our 3 best players at the start of their careers.

Breaking news of shock move to Victoria for Reid

Media speak for - there is zero news

"Essendon makes the most sense for him"

why, so he can never play finals?

They just get worse and worse

Yes, that is my reservation; just not sure he is a 'team' first player.

And we now have Langford; not quite in the same class as Harley but potentially just as valuable.

This year will tell us a lot about his character.

While i thought Harley was the best junior i had seen, his likely cost of $2m a season and probably 2 or more first rounders plus players, could really unsettle the club he goes to if he leaves.

Question: How much better incrementally, will Reid be than our Langford next season?

I am now of the view that it will be all the eggs in one basket, going after him and would be detrimental overall, to a continued developing of our list and improving culture.

Maybe not as good as Harley, but there will be good players to be found each year without the massive cost to the list.

We seem to have the same thoughts, as you posted as I was typing.

You're just jealous DD, because his girlfriend is from Foster and not Fish Creek.

In retrospect didn't the dees end up offering what would have been  4 x 1st rounders for him? ( given where we finished last year) . If so thats an offer they will never get again and are no doubt regretting not taking as much as I am glad it didnt happen. We dont need saviours....and we've been down that track too many times.

I think a lot of people here are being extremely harsh on a young player who has faced more scrutiny than just about any player ever.

He’s an absolute gun, who like Dusty is learning about the requirements to reach his ceiling.

Its been rumoured he doesn’t like training but having spoken to some at West Coast he’s a very good trainer who works hard but just needs and wants to learn more about the preparation side of things

Harley reminds me of Adam Cooney and Dusty Martin when they first entered the system.

Huge reality shock in terms of the intensity and professionalism of AFL and how much work you need to put in to be a consistent player. He's a country lad who had a pretty laid back personality and yes that can come across as lazy, but that's just how he is.

He came back in poor shape this pre season which is normal for 2nd year players because they're still adjusting to diets and training habits.

He will be fine, he will tear this competition apart once he hits the 90-130 game mark.

Adams says hi!

Never ceases to amaze me that D/Lers always want to go and get a certain player for a position or instead of another player we are developing.

Realise that some ready made trades are necessary to top up high draft picks or other lower draft picks as they develop.

But  some fans can’t wait and all the time want trades irrespective. It can’t work out like Geelong or as the Pies are copying now.

That's one player, who from all reports is going 'okay' but not banging down the door. If he doesn't turn out, who is next?

My issue was that we haven't drafted any other key tall defenders, even rookie projects. If Adams doesn't turn out then we are stuffed when May is gone.

Apparently he enjoys the actual training, as in on the green stuff, but doesn't enjoy all the little extras that the pros do.  Some call all that extra stuff training too and consider it super important to ever maximise your potential.  I suspect it will come in time.

No one is saying he is not a fantastic player, but rather that the overall cost of getting him and keeping him may be too high and not the best thing for our list.

I don't think he's worth the trade, that wasn't my point. I think there have been a few comments about his personality and attitude which have been pretty unfair.

Only Geelong can deliver the third-party deals to recruit the former, and only Essendon has the 'resources' to create the latter.

Personally I would prefer to imagine he is doing everything flawlessly already and is at his ceiling. Because if he is at the 'Gary Ablett Jr before 2007' stage of his career and performing at the level he is now, the prospect of how he goes when he not only has the preseasons accumulated to let his body deliver on his play style, and also the professionalism fully clicks in, is apocalyptic.

At this stage he looks like being solidly West Coast's no 1 player in his second season. He will likely lead the club for disposals, contested possessions, clearances, tackles, in50s, and bounces, and be in the top few for metres gained, score involvements and tackles inside 50.

Watch the game from last year when he made our Midfield look C grade at best. The kid is a gun, if he wants to come back to Victoria we should be doing everything to get him in a Demon Jumper

I bet she wishes she’s from Fishy. Even the Duursma’s secretly dreamed of playing for the mighty FCFNC.

no question… but the question coming back is what’s  the limit of how far we go re trading players and salary?

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

  • AFLW REPORT: St. Kilda

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking.  We filled our boots with percentage — now a whopping 520.7% — and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourne’s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
