DeeZone 10,596 Posted September 28, 2023 Posted September 28, 2023 Good luck James Jordon I had you pencilled in for a big year in 2023, just hasn’t happened for you or us this year. I hope that you get a clear run at it at the Swans Mr. Jordon.!! 1 Quote

One just got a medal for some bizarre reason Thats a ridiculous comparison. JJ was a perfectly legit sub as part of our 23 immortals thst won the game. That he missed out on getting on the field is again a quirk of Goody's inflexibility. McStay was injured last Friday night and consequently never considered for the team. Nor was Taylor Adams. Ginnivan looks like being the JJ and no doubt is about 99.9 % chance of about playing the last 30/40 mins especially if they need a lift. Two entirely different scenarios. Your comment has AFL written all over it. No connection at all between the scenarios. 1 Quote

Hunt deserves a medal just as much as Jordon does imo 1 1 Quote

I think it would be hard for AFL not to not award Jordan a medal at the time, because if someone got hurt he'd go on the field and play, unfortunately he didn't get to play on the field and was the quirk of the rules at the time. Bit different now, as sub can be used tactically not just for an injury, which has been a better rule change of recent times. 2 Quote
AndyH 20 Posted September 28, 2023 Posted September 28, 2023 First round for Grundy now or he can pick another side. Can’t afford to give swans a leg up 1 Quote
Tarax Club 4,196 Posted September 28, 2023 Posted September 28, 2023 SCC will suit JJ, expect his field kicking to immediately gain penetration. Lovely if the Swans repay the meat and potato largesse, (throw in Brody Grundy as steak knives). With one of their plethora of up and coming young tall forwards. 1 Quote

So if he’s not on big bucks in the new deal at Sydney, we may not get any compensation, bearing in mind he was clearly a fringe player for us. I’d hope his age will be a mitigating factor in returning us a 2nd round pick. https://www.afl.com.au/about-afl/free-agency Compensation A club that has a net loss of players transferring to/from other clubs as free agents in one transfer period is entitled to compensation via National Draft picks allocated by the AFL. The compensation formula produces a points rating for players based on: 1. The new contract of the free agent; 2. The age of the free agent. Draft picks are allocated to clubs based on the net total points for free agents lost and gained during the transfer period. poita 3,945 Posted September 28, 2023 Posted September 28, 2023 Brave boy to uproot his life to Sydney on presumably a fairly low salary and with no guarantee of additional game time. Good luck to him, but I would hope that we take a couple of young mids in the draft who will quickly become better players for us. 3 Quote

hillie 41 Posted September 28, 2023 Posted September 28, 2023 Im thinking outside the box here. Say we dont have a big fish on the hook and we suddenly have a fair bit of salary cap space - jordan, hibberd, harmes, grundy. Thats well over $1 mil spare could to benefit us, we trade grundy to swans and say we pay sydney his 600k salary for a year. And even 400k the year after but bringbit forward to next near they give us pick 11 sydney pays some of that money to jordan and it inflates his value per the comenatory pick we get. So it ends up being a first or end of first round? jordan wins the most out of this but also sydney get grundy and and extra mil in the cap for a year. Melb get a decent trade value and conpenstation pick for grundy and jordan. 1 Quote

Let’s get that end of first round pick If possible, absolutely. Is Dylan Stephens a FA, or will he be traded? If a FA, that opens up some deals, as Swans won't want to lose their chance of maximum compensation. 1 Quote

spirit of norm smith 16,679 Posted September 28, 2023 Posted September 28, 2023 Strange move !!! Swans Mids already include Errol Gulden, Callum Mills, James Rowbottom, Luke Parker, Chad Warner, as the starters, and then include Braeden Campbell, Sam Wicks and Justin Mcinerney. Jordon would be depth and start off in their VFL team imv. So he moves for extra game time? Sadly for him, imv probably not !!! 3 Quote

Wonder why they targetted him then, other than Mills possibly missing a large chunk of 24 season. 1 Quote
Mach5 4,768 Posted September 28, 2023 Posted September 28, 2023 I think as a supporter base in general we underestimate Jimmy Jordon’s ability and scope for improvement. I dare say if he didn’t find himself in the (for him) fortuitous situation where he is an “early” FA, he would not be moving clubs. 3 1 Quote

Liked JJ - good depth and good bloke but we were waiting for (prolonged) breakout performances, never quite got there. Guess it's hard when you're down the pecking order a bit. As usual, wish him well apart from games against us. 3 Quote

I think he’d still be moving, because clubs generally force trades through with out of contract players. But it wouldn’t be for money or length of deal. It would be a very similar situation with Bedford last year where we matched the contract but couldn’t convince him that he’d get more chances. I don’t think our coaches made mistakes not playing JJ. Just a reality that you aren’t ready until you’re ready some times. The only other consideration would be could we have moved players out to demonstrate our eagerness to give someone a bigger role. Ie. Moved Spargo last year to help keep Bedford. But I don’t see a on baller to move to keep JJ, especially when he’s going to get a free agent chunk of cash above normal offers. 1 Quote
SthSea22 658 Posted September 28, 2023 Posted September 28, 2023 Goodluck to him Is he in the Swans best 23? No chance lol 2 Quote
Maldonboy38 6,436 Posted September 28, 2023 Posted September 28, 2023 Very disappointed to see him go. He is better than Hunter on the wing (I have been very disappointed in Hunter's effectiveness, lack of clean ball, stupid free kicks, and half his kicks are high/blind around the corner), is still very young, and doesn't make the consistent errors others around him seem to make. I saw him as a 150 - 200 player. I know he has not starred, nor has he taken some moments offered to him, but with Harmes probably out the door, now JJ, our midfield depth is facing a serious challenge. I wish him all the best, except when he plays against the Dees. 1 Quote
