Great win, stick with the BBB and JVR fwd line.  Lever is putting a very good block of footy together.

Think I would prefer Chandler over Spargo

Lever had a stinker? Very few intercepts, turned around multiple times, no attacking drive. Luckily he did just enough to not get beaten on the siren

I love my Dees and I’m not totally biased to our flaws, but even if we lost tonight I loved that we stuck at it and kept within striking distance. JVR and Brown weren’t great but they continued to compete. May had some horrific moments but was important late.

Most people learn from their mistakes but the usual suspects will again next week be posting garbage on the game day thread vs Adelaide

Amen to that Pennant. There was a feeling of going down fighting and it was something to hang the hat on at least.

You never wipe the floor with Melbourne, it is very hard to beat us.

Genuinely rapt for Melksham. Has struggled to win over a few fans along the way but like him or not he just forced his way into Demon folklore. Brilliant.

Melksham gained Demon Folklore and my undying respect when he pulled down that fake Luke Jackson Freo jumper and piffed it on the ground in the race they ran out from. That's a Demon Heart there.

Max was a mountain all night. I only fear for his longevity in the game as his body has been taking an absolute beating (illegally so) for the majority of his career.

Agree and that's why, as amazing as tonight was, we should not expect Gawn to play in beast mode every week. When we evaluate the Gawn/Grundy combo, we need to remember that Grundy's quality ruck work during the season has helped preserve Gawn for the end of season.

The most bizarre shot for goal you’ll ever see. It went 40m above the goal post 😂

I’m with @praha. One of the best wins I’ve seen live. Up there with the 2018 finals.

The confidence we must take from that. We were thoroughly outplayed for large chunks of the middle two quarters against a top 3 side but to continue ti believe and to fight so hard to wrestle the game back is huge.

Melksham getting deserved credit bur please can we all just reflect on how unbelievably good Petracca is. 26 touches, 4 goals, 7 clearances, all whilst Brisbane mercilessly held and scragged him all night. If he can be this good more forward than mid in a side without Clarry…just imagine when Clarry returns…

IMO it was no coincidence that their second quarter run started when Trac and Viney were stuck on the bench for ages. Along with Gawn, they were just outstanding tonight.

Rivers to the midfield. Please. More of it. We need more mids. Brisbane got on top through the middle in part because we just can’t go with that many mids given the current make up of our side.

The stunning win will distract from a few major issues - our inability to stop their transition from back half to scores was concerning, as was our reversion to long bombs to the heads of stationary forwards. But when we move the ball even 20% quicker we look so much better.

Hopefully this is the kickstart of belief, confidence and form we need to run through into September.

I really wanted that win, can’t stand Brisbane.

Gawn was awesome and us much better as the main ruck.

Good to see Kozzie used on ball and thought he worked back into form tonight.

Woeys goal was sensational, but how clutch was Melksham?

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
