The clubs have a responsibility to make sure all players are given all the time they need to recover, however long it takes. 

Injury report says he has passed all tests and fully recovered.

    Has anyone got a spare ticket to Geelong v Melbourne they can on-sell to me?

    I've been to every Dees game at Kardinia Park for the past 6 years (except that famous game in 2021 during Covid Lockdown when the ground was empty and Max kicked the winning goal after the siren).

    I'm a member of the MFC and rang the club to get a reserved seat - usually get somewhere in A10 next to the cheer squad. This year the club can't help me - they said all seat are sold out.

    I sure as hell don't want to miss this game. It's on my bucket list to see Melbourne beat Geelong live at a Kardinia Park. I reckon were a big chance on Thursday night and I'd be spewing if I missed it.

    Has anyone got a spare ticket they can on-sell to me?

    You could be 100% correct but I recall Bowey played in the Carlton game.

    It was indeed the Carlton game he was concussed, I remember trying to work out how many days before the King Birthday game to see if he could get back.

    An infection that requires IV antibiotics and a relatively long hospital stay for these days would be quite severe and debilitating. He must have had a whopping fever, weight loss and risk of septicaemia and internal organ damage. His appears the type of infection that killed many healthy people in the days before advanced antibiotics. I believe the severity has been downplayed somewhat by the club.

    Agree, then there could be new talking point for the footy media every year -

    Gerard Whately: with modern footballers and boots being so much better, and the distances they can kick, they really needed to give the goals some protection.

    Gerard: it's not 1992, the game must evolve. 

    David King: according to Champion Data 38% of all kicks from the 53 metre mark have 16% chance of scoring which is higher than 15% and so the data is clear on this - we need more data to be clear on this. But to be clear i think Freo will finish top 4 this year, because they play the gum tree so well. 

    Dunstall - didn't you say last week Freo would finish bottom of the ladder? 

    King- yes, but i thought they were planting the Nyssa sylvatica not the Tristaniopsis laurina

    I don't know what symptoms he may've experienced, but i agree that the club has likely downplayed the severity. If he was in hospital, on a drip, for nearly a week, it was very very serious. 

    Athlete's involved in intense training are at major risk of contracting serious infections. Their bodies are exhausted and can struggle to fight infection, infection itself is common as they are in environments with lots of sweat and body contact. These infections can do serious damage to internal organs and can lead to necrotic areas at the infection site. 

    Kevin Randleman, an old mma fighter literally had holes in his skin from a staph infection, and recently Australian mma fighter Tim Schulz nearly had his leg amputated due to a skin infection.

    On top of all that, the antibioitics required to fight infection can be devastating for an athletes cardio and energy systems.

    For a regular person, maybe, for an athlete who has to be using his feet it really could’ve been nothing more than a tiny bit of cellulitis. With the IV and hospital treatment because they’ve got private health insurance and may as well use it.

    The issue is the time it takes to recondition him after 5 days completely off his feet. It’s likely 5 days+ just to get back to where he was. When you add in the hamstring and the need to prove he’s fully recovered from that you get some doubt.

    Bowey for Hibbo.

    JJ or Spargo a genuine 50:50. I suspect we’ll go away from the 4 smalls on a narrow ground and look for more size against the big cats.

    All of which makes me laugh anew at suggestions Oliver was soft for not playing with blisters.

    Might not be any changes.

    Why change a winning team?

    Couldnt pick a worse venue to make a comeback from injuries. Another week wont hurt.  We can win this with or without the three.

    Drop Hibberd? Seriously? He has been tremendous of recent weeks, and in my opinion would be an ideal fit for Cameron.

    McVee and Rivers both fold on to different match ups and Bowey takes a flank, it wouldn't be a direct swap.

    By all reports Hibbo wasn't doing much training and we've got the options this week.

    All indications are the only way we get Hibbo through to the end of the year is with a lot of management.

      There was a time in the second quarter of the game at the Cattery on Friday afternoon when the Casey Demons threatened to take the game apart against the Cats. The Demons had been well on top early but were struggling to convert their ascendancy over the ground until Tom Fullarton’s burst of three goals in the space of eight minutes on the way to a five goal haul and his best game for the club since arriving from Brisbane at the end of 2023. He was leading, marking and otherwise giving his opponents a merry dance as Casey grabbed a three goal lead in the blink of an eye. Fullarton has now kicked ten goals in Casey’s three matches and, with Melbourne’s forward conversion woes, he is definitely in with a chance to get his first game with the club in next week’s Gather Round in Adelaide. Despite the tall forward’s efforts - he finished with 19 disposals and eight marks and had four hit outs as back up to Will Verrall in the second half - it wasn’t enough as Geelong reigned in the lead through persistent attacks and eventually clawed their way to the lead early in the last and held it till they achieved the end aim of victory.

      I was disappointed to hear Goody say at his post match presser after the team’s 39 point defeat against Geelong that "we're getting high quality entry, just poor execution" because Melbourne’s problems extend far beyond that after its 0 - 4 start to the 2025 football season. There are clearly problems with poor execution, some of which were evident well before the current season and were in play when the Demons met the Cats in early May last year and beat them in a near top-of-the-table clash that saw both sides sitting comfortably in the top four after round eight. Since that game, the Demons’ performances have been positively Third World with only five wins in 19 games with a no longer majestic midfield and a dysfunctional forward line that has become too easy for opposing coaches to counter. This is an area of their game that is currently being played out as if they were all completely panic-stricken.

Saturday opens with Gold Coast hosting Adelaide, a key test for the Suns as they aim to back up their big win last week, while the Crows will be looking to keep their perfect record intact. Reigning wooden spooners Richmond have the daunting task of facing reigning premiers Brisbane at the ‘G and the Lions will be eager to reaffirm their premiership credentials after a patchy start.
