Not too dissimilar to the Hawks Mascots to be fair…

That was the second straight game at the G with all the atmosphere of a pop-up library. Was over at quarter time again.

Hawthorn supporters are generally pretty thick. They started going bananas when they kicked 3 in a row to start the 3rd. It was fun to remind them to tell the team to get to the ground 90 minutes earlier - when the game actually started.

Went for dinner after at San Telmo. Best restaurant in Melbourne I reckon.

Of course, but the win was somewhat underwhelming and not exactly what I hoped for a team aiming for another premiership

FGS, Hawthorn kicked 7 goals and 3 of them were in about 3 minutes at the start of the 3rd Quarter. We won by 9 goals. Hawthorn played about as well as they could have. We drew with Hawthorn in our Premiership year.

I'm amazed about the negativity. The main reason I'm surprised is I would have thought all of you would already have slit your wrists (and therefore not have been around to currently post on Demonland) somtime during the 11 year period we didn't make the finals (2007-17). I avoid going into Demonland following a loss because it would appear some have absolutely no perspective. Maybe I'll have to avoid going into the the site until we win another Premiership (but maybe not even then because we won't have played well enough or won by a sufficiently large margin).

Thought Kozzie Chandler and Langers were all disappointing.

Yes, I agree with you. They should all be dropped. Langdon was particularly disappointing. Only 22 possessions, 8 marks, 1 goal and 306m gained.

If Hibberd keeps playing like this will be hard not to give him another contract.

Do AFL computer games have an "agiilty" metric for players? He would be 100 out of 100.  33 years young and running rings around 22 yr olds.

Earlier this year, I thought that maybe he had lost a touch of pace.

It might just have been part of working his way back into match fitness. It might be that he has lost a touch of pace, but it is only going to be apparent playing on the Cameron's of the world.

But if he has lost a touch of pace, it hasn't affected his performance tonight whatsoever. Was fantastic, and you're right his ability and positioning in the contest was great.

Did you bring them with you from Perth, Steve?

I noticed as well. A few folks a couple rows back copped a fly by gift.

I think people like to complain. They forget that we are watching a team that would match it with any side in the modern era.

The team has 10 genuine AA players.

This might never be replicated again in our lifetimes.

make the most of it. Cherish every moment

Well, the Petty debate will no doubt continue but he did have a significant impact in the half-game he played.

So would have Brown.... Even more so had he played. I'll say it again Petty is not and will never be a forward! IF we are to be a flag chance BBB has to be our key forward. I'm also not sold on Van Rooyen yet either!

Was good to see a performance to remember. Dunno what happened at 3 quarter time but I’m glad they came back and asserted control of the game. The best part was seeing Van Rooen get the goal after beating the suspension.

Lucky his second half was better than his first.

It's not just you. There's a push in the back epidemic. And it should be called out.

It's not strength in the contest.  It's cheating.

Hands in the back rule should never have been rescinded.  It made it easier to adjudicate and disarmed players like that Collingwood  / Freo nuffie James Clement who built a career on cheating.

The one against May was blatant

Is it just me or is the push in the back dead?

They only seem to pay it when a player is pushed on the run?

Seems to be. I noticed Hawkins got away with a few but that's normal I guess. May copped a couple of reasonably obvious ones. It's hard to keep up with the rules these days .

Viney has become a very good kick inside 50.

That 30 m run to the boundary was pretty quick. He's in good shape. I thought he would struggle for games this year but I think he's best 22 from what he's shown.

Good win, yup we switched off in the third.  But the rest of the game we were good.

Hibbo was fantastic, Viney BOG, Petracca and Oliver did their thing and Rivers was outstanding.

Kossie may have looked quiet but look of the ball a bit more, he directly caused at least 4 Hawks turnovers and apparently has one of the highest distance tracked on the GPS(per "round so far").

We lead most of the lead indicators and Hawks never really looked like getting into it.  Bring on Port

I’m also keen to see what Joel can bring, and yes, much more curious to see him around our goals than the opposition’s.

I do have memories of Joel flying for everything and getting in the way more than “being the way” at times, but his hunger to prove himself must be stronger than ever these days.

Even if we bring him as the sub for a qrt , hes definitely worth a look. Hopefully Petty will be 🍒 and Smith gets a cameo next game. Thought Petty was great and get why Goody perservered . Good to say May playing well again backed up by some stellar stuff from Hibberd, Rivers and Bowser. I also want to see Rivers back in the middle for some time. His 60m goal was a work of art.

May said after the game the Hawks jumped us after half time. Thats how it looked to me as well. Those 3 quick goals fired them up and got them into the contest for the quarter. Outside of that purple patch they were very ordinary. We were pretty much doing as we pleased. A very straight forward win.

As an aside, I don't think Gary Lyon should commentate on Dees games. He was painful early in the 3rd when Hawks got on top briefly.

Yeah I agree. You watch next week if we lose to Port. There are a number of posters just waiting to let it rip saying I told you so.

The worst I've heard ever was Dunstall last week, how was he yesterday?

Langdon is beyond simply being "down on form". I watched him closely today. He is unaccountable, points fingers a lot, avoids tackles.. teams are targeting his space and exploiting it. He is a liability against good teams. Going to be a very interesting month for him to see how he performs.

As a contrast, the Age report had him in the best with the description "Ed Langdon was everywhere on the wing and applied relentless defensive pressure".

Hunter and Langdon’s involvement is patchy because we are more willing to use the middle of the ground in attack. Their role is to stay as wide as possible to create space between them.

Viney has adjusted to start using the first option and keeping things simple, it’s working wonders.

Feel like we still haven’t had a game in which we have had the pedal to the metal for 3-4 quarters, if that comes, watch out.

Good point.

We’ll also never see Langdon and Hunter both play complete, high possession games on the same day as one of them will always be playing on the defensive side wing.

First half was played more on Hunter’s side, second half on Langdon’s.
