Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

POSTGAME: Rd 09 vs Hawthorn

Did well to get out of that one with the 4 points. Hawks were on fire there for three and a half minutes.

If Al-Qaeda were ever to plan anything it would be at half time in Hawthorn’s emergency services game.

Very frustrating watching such a great list of players fumble, make poor choices, handball to team mate's feet, and get beaten at the ground ball game. I simply don't get it.

Kayo ought to be flogged for the reliability of their product.

Trac, Oliver and Viney were all immense AND flawed.

Rivers and ANB were brilliant in the last quarter.

Fritsch looks half-hearted too often.

If Sparrow and Jordon are fighting for the same place in the 22, tonight's game suggests Jordon gets the chocolates. Sparrow's work rate was good, but his effectiveness and clumsiness were poor.

Pushing in the back in marking contests is now legal again. Both teams did it all night.

Why do I feel so frustrated after a 10 goal win? It might be time to lower my expectations because the last 3 games have done my head in.

It's not like it's unusual for us to play this sloppily.   Our core midfield have always been and will always be messy kicks of the footy, and the last few weeks of handballing has been dire to boot.

Agree re pushing in the back.  Can't understand why they got rid of the hands in the back rule, I thought it was effective and easy to umpire.

I don't think they will swap Sparrow for Jordan... Jordan isn't dynamic or powerful enough and they like that in the midfield.  The worry is we've had no new young midfielders coming through for a few years now.

God damn Hawthorn. Good for nothing useless football club. Relegate them.

Hawthorn were dull, but interesting as well. They are obviously a young team lacking experience at the level across the board; however, in the third quarter they came out to put into action what they had learned (against the Dees) from the first half of the game. It proved effective and they did rally but were unable to sustain the effort against the Dees' pressure and inbuilt alternatives across the ground. Nice to get the percentages, nice to get the four points.

It was evident today we are being out hunted in the contest. Whilst we dominated, a better side would have punished us more.

Port will give us an honest assessment of where we are and we rate against the top 4-6.

How do you figure that? We won CP +14.

We've turned ourselves into a team that can win multiple ways. We win on turnover.  Check out the thread on it.

Clearly pushing thru something @WalkingCivilWar isn’t he?

With about 3 minutes to go in the 4th Fritta made a half-hearted challenge inside 50 and I was cursing him - they broke away but coughed it straight back and 20 seconds later Fritta pops up with the classy finish from Petracca’s handball. Kinda sums him up.

Double their score equates to 200%

I was thinking we beat them by 100% of their score ie the full 50 points ergo 200% would be a 100 point win. Isn't % a fraction?

I like your honesty. I’d just say that there will come a time when we are dreadful again. Enjoy it while it lasts.

By the way, the 90 point win did your head in? Didn’t take me long to find Steven May’s alias.

Happy with 90 points. Happy with 54 points. Happy seeing us win regularly and well.

What does my head in is unpressured sloppiness from a skilful list. Trac Viney Kozzie & Sparrow often fumble at their feet and over run the ball. Now Fritsch is doing it as well. And when we do pick it up our handballing is full of errors. Some are pressured, but many are not.

An uninspiring game and we move on.

Did we learn much about the forward line

We need another tall.

From comments by goody it sounds like BB is a ways of being in the right shape.

Probably explains why tmac was an emergency to cover JVR if needed.

And I'm not convinced tmac is in optimal shape either.

I could imagine them bringing Smith in.

I've always thought playing forward is the best role to best take advantage of his strengths.

His athleticism, speed off the mark and leap means he is well placed to bring the ball to ground in marking contests and win ground balls.

And he has good hands and is a really good set shot, including from distance.

Playing forward also mitigates his weaknesses, that conversely were exposed down back, in particular his sometimes questionable footy iq and shaky defensive skills.

But down forward he is a bit freer to just go for it and fly for everything.

Maybe they bring Smith in and give tmac and bb another few weeks, inclusive of the bye, to get cherry ripe for the back end of the season.

Not sure about this bin.

Petty looked to be finding his feet unit injured.

I thought JVR looked good. Competed well . Move up the ground. Really competed well - is improving.

Gawn or Grundy playing forward.

Can't have another

In round figures, our percentage today was 200% and Hawthorn's was 50%.

We doubled their score plus change.

I understand the frustration expressed by some posters with aspects of Fritsch's game, but his main job is to open up opposing defences and score goals ---- and he has achieved that consistently. He is excellent at finding space inside 50, has taken some good marks against bigger-bodied defenders and is usually an accurate goal-kicker. We certainly don't have a superior replacement outside our current best 22.

I know goody said that petty will be playing forward for the next few weeks, but I think he'll ultimately go back.

Im fine with petty up forward if they don't think there is a better option but I agree that in the long run Petty has more value to us downback

Seems odd bin. I reckon Petty took more ( I don't know the stats) marks in that half he played than any other forward this year.

What a bunch of ungrateful supporters.  Of course we are not going to be at our best against the bottom sides, just bank the win and move on.  I love that we can win by 9 goals in 2nd gear.

Yep, all about taking the wins at this point. Expecting 100 point wins is silly.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
