Only two Melbourne players but probably fair enough. I thought Gawn and Viney were our standouts on the day.  Hard to argue about any of the GC players who polled. I expect it was Gawn who picked up the 1/2.  Both coaches would've had him in the votes.

Dew / Goody (predicted voting)

10 - Anderson 5/5

7- Clayton 3/4

4- Rowell 4/0

3- Gawn 0/3

3- Powell 2/1

2- Swallow 0/2

1- Ballard 1/0

**Also worth calling out Dogga's 10 in the Freo vs Hawks game. Didnt watch a second of the game, but 2 goals and 24 touches was closed to his best ever game I would have thought. Pity about the opponent.

Anderson and Rowell were definitely the two most dominant players on the ground. Only fair they got votes. Anderson ripped us apart.
Lol at Ballard getting votes. Cheeky.

Pretty accurate votes, though Oliver didn’t have the best game and was well held in the first half. Thought Trac was better personally. Hard to argue with the votes though. We had few players who starred and we were lucky to win.

Their midfield destroyed us and Anderson taught our mids a lesson in work rate and class. He’s a ripper and he should’ve been ours!

Disagree.

Rowell only had 18 disposals.  Sure he had a good clearance game, but give me Petracca's more balanced game any day of the week.

Oliver and Petracca were the reason Melbourne won.

Clarry coming third now. Daicos is actually getting tagged so he is done.

Between the Bont and Clarry from here

Here are the updated season tallies for all Melbourne players:

36 Clayton Oliver
33 Christian Petracca
12 Brodie Grundy
12 Kysaiah Pickett
11 Max Gawn
11 Jake Lever
6 Ed Langdon
6 Jack Viney
6 Kade Chandler
5 Angus Brayshaw
4 Michael Hibberd
2 Tom McDonald
1 Lachie Hunter

It's worth noting that of Gawn's 4 games for the season (I'm not counting Brisbane as he was off by the 5 minute mark) he has polled coaches votes in three of them.  The only one he has missed on is North.  A pretty solid effort given he's now only a part-time ruckman!

Yes Goodwin seems more balanced than others.  Dew must have thought it was the Suns B&F votes !!! Ballard and Swallow ffs. I was at the game and Trac and Viney were far ahead of these two.  We won and they were two key reasons.

But Goodwin also gave more Suns players votes…

Yes I am aware. For a close game you’d expect an equal representation of voting and yet Rowell was given 4 votes by his coach after a ineffective 2nd half. Ballard getting 1 vote?? No bias there.

still a bit unusual

led for the entire game, straight kicking at it could have been a bigger win

7 players got votes and only 2 for us. bit odd, but we move on, maybe goody sending a message

Don't agree that we were lucky to win.

GC played their heart out and yes deserved votes as those players did their absolute best in their career I would say of some of their Coaches votes recipients.

However save for the first point GC NEVER lead for the rest of the game, save at least it was level at 3/4 time.

But in the last quarter the Dees turned up the heat with 2.6 to 2.1 when they rose a level and their defence ( a five minute period excepted) looked with the on ballers and showed their 2021 style. Three shots for points from a unusually nervous looking Bailey Fritsch sort of helped GC stay in it when in general play Melbourne was on top.

The Ballard/van Rooyen clash stopped the Demons momentum and upon resumption the Suns  regained some dare and team work.

Ultimately it came down to MacPherson who had an  opportunity to draw the game with 40 secs to go. Alas it never was going for goal and a famous win to the Dees ensued.

I have heard an opinion that this was the Suns greatest ever game but surely their previous 2014 triumph over the Pies led by Gary Ablett (whose shoulder was injured during the game) that led to unfulfilled hopes of making the Finals.

Melbourne was inwardly chuffed by this hard fought win Defence coach Troy Chaplin quick to say in interview that  "Rivers desperation in defence was inspiring" plus "we are bloody proud of this group, and "3 wins in 12 days was tremendous"

Both teams can take huge credit for a super competitive contest and look to gain more successes up to the bye  to further enhance their prospects in 2023.

Great that Dees I estimate had at least a good half of the crowd in another part of the country so Sam McClure can sleep soundly this week.

Anderson was the best player on the park hands down.

The only one I may change there would be Trac for Swallow but they are the coaches, not me.

And the talk is at least four players were crook (fritter beng one of them, chandler too).

And this is not just gossip - Chaplin makes the point that Rivers was exceptional, particularly given he was crook, in this video:

Three wins in 12 days is a great effort. Hadn't realised the tight schedule.

The club would have been delighted if at the start of the season you said they would win all three.

To be honest I thought that they had 5 of the best 8 on the night we had the best of the rest.!

2024 Player Reviews: #36 Kysaiah Pickett

The Demons’ aggressive small forward who kicks goals and defends the Demons’ ball in the forward arc.
