Geez there is some wrist slashing going on here tonight. We won the game. Road trips aren’t easy, nor is any game these days. The competition is very even, save for Hawthorn and West Coast. Bank the points and move on.

Ben Brown must come back in. Kicked three in the ressies. The week before he kicked 0.4. Poor conversion, but he was getting looks. JVR needs support, and Petty ain’t the answer.

The voice of reason. Hallelujah.

Gold Coast are a tough road trip up there especially when the dew sets in & gets slippery & physically taxing.

Its not going to click every week & for those that think Fritsch should get dropped need to understand he’s our most reliable forward.

Surely Spargo comes in….was very surprised he didn’t play last night

I was a massive fan of getting Hunter in. Thought he’d be pivotal on the ‘other’ wing. Aside from a few moments here and there this season, he’s looked slow, cannot get enough penetration on his kicks and makes poor decisions too often putting team members under unnecessary pressure. I hope this doesn’t become the norm - that we are dealing with a very limited player, rather than one I expected would make a tangible difference.

As I’ve said repeatedly, we need to use our squad rather than playing the same blokes week in and week out. If any of our guns need a rest, next week is the week to do it. It’s a very long season.

I said the same of Hunter and was howled down by many on here..I said that  at this stage, Oskar Baker looks to have had more impact at the Dogs. Perhaps we should have persisted. Hunter is a decent player, but really is lacking in pace. His dinky kicks are hospital passes, and his one trick seems to be the handball to ground play, which is great when it works, horrendous when it doesn’t. He tries to do far too much when he has the ball.

Hunter is no doubt playing to instruction to move the ball quickly but he's lost pace and agility and can't do what he once could. He's still a useful smart player but he needs to play within his limitations of age now.

Riley Beveridge thinks the JVR incident might even be referred directly to the tribunal due to the severity of the injury. I thought it was just clumsy but who knows these days with the MRO.

I cant imagine Hawthorn tanking against us.  They hate us more than most other clubs.   The young millenials that play for them wont know the background but the old salts do.

Hawthorn rested Breuss for this game. He almost won it for them a few seasons back.

Would love to see us obliterate them with Dermie commentating.

Dont think it will happen.

Winning margin?  No idea.

If JVR gets suspended then AFL footy is in it's death knell. Clumsy may be but outside of the rules ? Never.

Buckle up and brace for impact. There are very few cases of Dees players getting off at the tribunal.

CRIPPS says Hi !

Wouldn't mind seeing what Blake Howes can do. Perfect week to give a rookie a go.

Spargo and Ben Brown probably need to come in too to sort out our issues up forward.

No change keep the winning formula I like Turner down back.

Your kidding, after a performance like that, Disco should be so lucky to be playing at Casey, a woeful display - got towelled .

Ahh yes, the time I pointed out that Sparrow’s decision making is one aspect of his game (and the teams) that meant he’s probably unlikely to become an A grader. Then I had 500 notifications calling me stupid. Now I have to defend Sparrow who’s an excellent role player from the same people.

Im happy to get worse to get better come round 9. That’s called player and team development.

Brings me to your point, Sparrow kicked another 50 mtr beauty yesterday. That said, umpires wait for Viney to go i inch off line to call play on, and why the kicking for goal at and around the fifty seems to be open to umpire's discretion, depending on, i have no idea what??

In: Brown, Spargo, Hibbo

Out: JVR (susp), Turner, Harmes

Also if required in Schache, out Fritsch (managed) if required

fyi Harmes as the sub can’t be one of the outs unless one of your ins is the sub

The team needs Petty back but my lord May needs him back the most.

I seem to remember Petty putting in a very poor performance in his first game, whilst this is Turner's second game he did alright in his first until getting his jaw smashed, pretty confidant he will turn out okay.

I’d be really disappointed if he continually is getting games in front of JJ, Harmes & Spargo

two things i’m not understanding

1. people expecting Petty to be an influential fwd after just a few weeks. it takes times to learn to be a key fwd especially with a constantly changing line up

2. wanting Hunter dropped. i think he has been good this year despite an average game yesterday. he was certainly better than langdon.

What game did you watch last night ? 😳

I don't get why most people think JVR will get suspended. It is a game of footy where accidents do occur and there was nothing malicious in what he did. He just tried to punch the ball for crying out loud.

Is the hawks game the ‘replacement’ game for members (ie, free ga entry?)

Yes.

Didn’t watch the game, so only going off other peoples points, but I agree Petty is a much better backman and critical to our defensive structure. May is badly out of form this year and from all reports had another poor game- would it be too outrageous for May to play forward for a few weeks? He is good in the air and would provide an option, plus physicality and pressure.

Brown and Shaq do not bring enough pressure which is the key reason for Petty being preferred.
Any thought on this?

I love his general attack on the contest but in this instance he overstepped the line.  Front-on contact, eyes not on the ball (yes he glances up early to anticipate the ball drop but from then on he's looking towards Ballard) - that's careless, high contact with high impact.  That's two weeks.

If JvR is suspended so be it; he'll learn.  He needs a rest anyway.

That aside, love his aggression at the ball and his own argie-bargie reaction to all the attention he is getting behind play.  Fearless and takes no nonsense.  Rapidly rising to be an =+1 favourite!!

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Collingwood

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking.  We filled our boots with percentage — now a whopping 520.7% — and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourne’s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
