like averaging 3 goals per game at AFL level this year?

I think you need to step back and remove erroneous overlays. Stats are just just stats.... without context theyre useless.

What he may have done previously is not where he is NOW.

Reads a bit like a Financial Caveat/Disclaimer for that very reason.

Its where Ben is at NOW.. not 4 weeks ago

Right now his form is not flash.  Do you want to suggest otherwise  ?

He's having difficulty impacting, he seems to have possibly a niggle with his kicking..  that would make sense if he's suffering back problems.

It's probably best he regain all his footy prowess . He can then be effective and contribute.

Hmmm. That would be Ben Mackay but he'd have to be 2 metres tall so would go to either JVR or Schache.

Just commenting on the fact Fritta was named at CHB

Well if anyone can kick em from half-back it will be Fritta

BBB does it week in, week out

It's a worry that neither tmac or bbb took their chance for a definitive spot in the seniors. Anyone that doesn't think we have a forward line problem is kidding themselves. Thank goodness for Jvr stepping up but he's still a young unknown. Not saying he won't perform but it's not guaranteed and we don't know at what level. He's only got 5 games in fgs. Kozzie is up and down and Fritta though ok isn't where he used to be at. Credit to Goody for trying the Petty option but as much as always hoped for it, he wasn't really up to it. Maybe with Gawn back in he will help out but his kicking still worries me.

If we are going to win a flag thus year we definitely need either Tmac or Bbb to come good or a long shot in Schache. And it needs to happen soon.

Our fwd line fell apart last year and it saw us drop out in straight sets.  Any suggestions?

Wouldn't write off Petty as a forward just yet.

Yes the forward line hasn’t been settled and is a work in progress, BUT it has been effective.  Second most points scored at an average of 105 points per game.  So my suggestion is don’t panic and enjoy the journey as we continue to discover our best forward mix while still putting points on the board.

Ben Brown kicked 4.1, 4.0 and 1.0. The Sydney game was a stinker but surely it's harsh to punish a proven performer for one poor game. Especially with JVR playing, we really need a proven, experienced tall taking the best defender.

I don't think he is being punished, he is being allowed time to manage a back injury and when he's ready he'll back in the 22. I also agree he is probably our best option when fully fit but we know what it looks like when we have an unfit BB in the forward line, it ain't pretty.

Didn't Rivers have a knock as well? Maybe just cramp

Pretty sure it was cramp.  Toe turfed at  one point afterwards attenpting a short pass.

Agree the posted side is a joke. The only thing you can believe from these sides that are posted before games is that they are the 22 most likely to take the field. Even then players are often listed then taken out before the game starts.

Maybe. For me he just doesn't seem to be strong enough in the legs to take contested marks or shrug off opponents.  He's definitely athletic enough, fast and reads the play well but I'm pretty confident he's much more suited to defending.

Schache may well be the final box that Goody wants to tick off as part of a look at various forward set ups.

Reckon he's banking on Gawny playing a fair chunk up forward taking the oppos best defender, giving Schache & Roohey a bit of a chop out.

Really surprised though as for mine i'd be resting Maxy this week either literally or in a low TOG sense after his big come back game and on only a 5 day turnaround.

Would've also rested Clarry this week and brought in Dunstan to take on his role.

Harmes should be the sub.  Easily the most prolofic player at Casey since returning and as much as many on here don't like what he brought early on this season (me included) i suspect it had something to do with his time out abscence.  He is still a long way ahead and a step up on Bill.  Bill not quite ready at this point.  We are also going to need a super match fit Harmes to take on the partial lock down role on Daicos for KB clash.  He's the only player capable of taking on Daicos through the middle/HF.  Hibb taking over across HB when Daicos drifts there.

Personally i wouldnt judge the performances from Macca & BB from last week too harshly.  That side was a shell of its usual self and littered with freshmen who, in the main (aside from Sestan in the first half...didnt see the second) were pretty ordinary with delivery inside 50.  Reckon the inisde 50 differentials were probably skewed with the bulk of those shallow.

The forward line (and the team line up for that matter) was ridiculously over weighted with Key tall forwards and talls in general.  To the point that there was little if any defensive pressure in the f50 or through the middle of the ground.

The Tigers rebounded and run amok off HB & with ease through the middle, especially the second quarter which looked like a training drill.

Expecting more of the same (at  Casey) if we go in with the same 'overweight talls' line up against Box Hill.  Surely we wouldn't deliberately derail Casey's season doing that for a second week though?

Mitch White back is very handy.  The dynamic duo not quite back however with Moose still NQR i believe.

Baldi & Buntine should be automatic inclusions?

Thanks Demon Dynasty, I hope you are right.

Interesting point about Harmes and Daicos.

Still can't get used to hearing Kb round. Maybe Kevin Barlett?😃

Yeh i doubt anyone can actually close Nick down but have to at least try.  Even if it means half of his possessions are a bit off the mark/dirrty vs his usual clean stuff... that's a win.

KB haha...Comb over clash!

P.S. i'm more often wrong than right with these things.  Like throwing darts at the board from 50ft after 3 pints and no glasses!

LDU out for North: big loss for them

Huge out. He’s been one of the best mids in the league that past 12 months or so. We should have more of an advantage around the contest.

I hope Schache realises he's about 3 bad games from not playing at the elite level. For some reason I feel a surprise coming on. Imaging a JVR, Schache forward half that worked.

We can't let Daicos pick up 40 possessions and kick 2 goals, thats just embarrassing.  Lock him down and punish the Pies. We need to win the contest and the spread against the Pies or they'll beat us. We have to beat them. It'll give us the confidence going into the second half of the season where we'll win 17 straight and take the cup.

These games are a free hit for teams like North. Get beaten by 100 points and no-one really takes much notice, push us for three quarters and get beaten by 30 points equals good effort, get the win and the world turns on us. Melbourne just need to come out in the first and put them away.

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking.  We filled our boots with percentage — now a whopping 520.7% — and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourne’s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
