Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Arrived just before 10am and the team was starting to prepare for the session. They did some fun warm-up exercises in their respective lines to begin with. Noticed Kozzie was part of the forward group.

Players on modified duties were Salem, Spargo, Verrall and K Turner with the former two running laps mostly.

The serious stuff begun with some kicking and handball drills at high speed spaced out over 50m or so.
The next exercise consisted of two groups split into white v blue. Basically kick to a pack and which ever team won the ground ball would try and attack with precision at high speed mainly looking for a player over the back.
When this ended some of the squad mainly the whites went in the rooms, that included Brown and Melksham. The rest stayed out for some match sim. I counted about 26-27 players left. Harmes, Joel Smith and a kid in the 17 jumper with long hair (no idea who sorry) were included in the sim along with the main extended listed squad.

Match sim was 13v13 and was at high intensity and fast. I have no idea how the scores were kept but it was Blue 4.20-44 to White 3.25-43. I only saw one goal and it was from Dunstan after some good ball movement. Blues won the match with the last play because Langdon marked a Chandler pass inside 50, I guess hitting a target counts as a score. Highlights in the sim included a Sparrow tackle on Laurie and Grundy taking a couple of pack marks.

After this they split into their lines again for some extra work.

Petty was with the forwards as was J Smith. The backline only consisted of May, Lever, Turner, McVee and Hibbo. Rivers was with the mids as was Gus.
Lever, Gawn and Viney trained fully and seem ready to go. Brown also trained fully.

I wasn’t going to post the following but we had reporters there asking MFC officials why Oliver didn’t train. I’m sure it will be reported he was absent.

Viney and Gawn stayed out for extra work with Stafford as I was leaving. Kozzie, Trac, Grundy, Fritta and Harmes stayed out for goal kicking practice and there was also a cheer in the end of session huddle.

There were a few other observers there so if I’ve missed anything maybe someone else can post it.

OK this was a question that was first raised at the open session a couple of days ago....

Who is this with JJ?   It's not John McEnroe or Bjorn Borg.  Perhaps @dazzledavey36 can help out?

@Tough Kent theorised in one of the previous training threads that it could have been Harry Demattia from the Dandenong Stingrays.  Was apparently signing things in Dees gear at the Kids clinic too

TALENTED TEEN WEIGHS CRICKET INTEREST

HARRY DeMattia can lay claim to a unique lead-in to this year's Coates Talent League.

The Dandenong Stingrays prospect was a substitute fielder for the Australian cricket team during last year's Boxing Day Test match, taking the field at stages across the contest against South Africa.

DeMattia, who plays for premier cricket club Melbourne, followed up his Boxing Day cameo by playing at the Victorian underage cricket championships. But now DeMattia, a powerful and versatile prospect, is fully invested in his footy campaign playing in the under-18 competition.

Last week the 184cm prospect kicked three goals from 14 disposals against the Geelong Falcons, and he will play a mix of different roles this season with his good kicking and speed. He ran the 20-metre sprint in 2.92 seconds at the recent Coates Talent League testing day.

DeMattia faces a decision on his sporting future at some stage this season but has AFL clubs interested after a strong start to the year.

"He had a foot niggle in the pre-season but he was still around the group all of the time and he trained at a high level in the rehab group," said Stingrays talent manager Toby Jedwab.

"The role he's got lined up is as a high half-forward and he can also play half-back and he has gone into a midfield rotation as well. He'll play a bit of everywhere through the season." – Callum Twomey

Viney had strapping on his left knee and the pink training bib (for non-contact?) on the MFC insta story.  Hopefully just preventative.

He did sit one drill out DP, but I saw no issue with his running, kicking and turning.

Mr Zeph! Is this your first full training report? You might have done another but the memory is hazy.

Does it look like Dunstan could be spending some decent time in the middle?

Your guess is as good as mine layz, he trained and linked up well in the short match sim.

The strange part is DD, Oliver was in gear ready to go and just prior to the warm-up he went in the rooms and didn’t reappear.

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
