Kane Cornes

I don't mind Cornes and his forthright opinions. His obvious Port bias does grate though.

Re JHF, i think he has been poorly advised. His people should have counselled him against moving after 1 year. Terrible look and won't endear you to the AFL public. That said fans shouldn't boo a youngster. More senior players, that should know better, maybe, but not a kid.

I do wonder if his manager will take some responsibility in this.

I have no idea who he's manager actually is, but they would have known the huge amount of backlash this would have caused and just advised him to stick it out for another year until his contract is finished.

The fact that opposition supporters are now booing him each game sums it all up really.

You’d like to think so but I can’t imagine a situation where a player manager is doing anything other than feathering their own nest.

Nothing major, just constantly knocking him for getting cheapies, his twitter is flooded with cheapshots like the below

Forget Cheezels, Nick Daicos just does not like the Hard Ball and makes the 2 Dollar shop look like Millionares Row. Just watch the replays, Hangs back waiting for the cheap easy possesion . As Vanilla as they come. Good skills but all soooo soft!

Yes he is all shirk and no shiner (just made that up) But he can do it on average 35-40 times where no one is pressuring him. He does a lot of damage with the pill too. close to 900m gained on the weekend.

You can go at him all you like, but the kid is getting it done.

As for Kane - he is a one-eyed supporter, same as Bucks, Dwayno, Gerard and many other nufties in the press. He just goes more than usual. Dont mind him to be honest.

As for JHF, im not for the booing, but if he didnt see this coming, then sheesh. The AFL need to tighten this up. If you are dropping top 10 picks on a player then you have to get some security on your investment. Its a professional sport and if you are not prepared to leave your home state, then dont put your hand up to play football and go work at the local library.

The kid thing is interesting.  To me he is a kid, with all the naivety and lack of maturity and experience that goes along with that.  To my son (20) and many around his age, he is a spoiled brat who has been given an opportunity that so many kids that age would die for, yet he ran home to mummy.

Round 9 should be amusing when Norff play Port in Melbourne.

It's in Tassie :(

Yes, but it would be amusing if Port turned up to play in Melbourne.

His proper focused takes on the game are actually good.

But he is paid to make bold calls and to have them regurgitated all over his various SEN and Channel 9 gigs. So he days big things designed to be inflammatory.

On JHF he’s blatantly hypocritical but I suspect he knows that and doesn’t care.

Kane who?  Anyone of any relevance?

Move on.

Well see ya then?

Didn't have to comment if you didn't like the thread.

Some great discussions on here already that's not Melbourne related for once.

I think Monoccular's point is that Kane is irrelevant.  I agree with him.

What do you learn from him about the game today other than who he likes and who he doesn't?  He prefers to play the man.

This bloke is getting a lot of interesting feedback around the JHF commentary.

I think some of the past players that have entered the media are now getting better at parking their bias to their previous clubs aside and putting on their media hat. For an example, Garry Lyon was always good at this and even Matthew Lloyd who I've seen go hard at the Bombers last year as well.

In this instance I think Kane Cornes has failed badly with this one.

Can't be calling out the likes of Daicos, Walsh and Ginivan but then show a complete bias and protenction towards JHF and Port Adelaide football club in general.

Why is JHF the subject of booing anyway.  A serious question coz I'm out of the loop and just wondering.

What's Hinkley so upset about?

Goodes booing was straight out racially based and he was hounded out thanks to weak AFL approach.

I don’t think it was the state with him, it was he was at a club that he saw no future at.

Frankly the media is ruining the enjoyment of footy. 24/7 commentary, shock jocks like Cornes and others constructing headlines, criticism of players and teams at the drop of a hat, gross exaggeration (the point of fabrication) and often uninformed commentary. Mainly it’s about egos and justification of their pay cheques. It’s the bilge that gets said and written about every day, all week, and before and after a game. It has reached saturation point. Either folks accept it, absorb it like sponges, or reject it, turn off and try and enjoy the purity of the game. The game needs to retain some freshness, some surprises, where fans expectation and opinions are not unduly influenced by the constant clammer of the media bandwagon. It’s just getting so tiresome.

Well said. And Cornes is a [censored].

This article sums it up perfectly....Cornes is no dummy and a good football analyst but he's taken the "hot take" US sports approach...it seems to be what the people want so who can blame him and Hutchy

This is a very good article actually. Hits the nail on the head. He says what gets the greatest reaction.

The pity is his analysis is actually quite good. I like buckleys analysis as well but he doesn’t go for the unnecessary swipes. Cornes should take a leaf out of his book.

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    WELCOME 2024 by Meggs

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
