I really hope there is a genuine realization from the FD that Jordan is a much more effective, reliable player at the moment compared to Harmes. At least thats what this naive supporter believes

Hopefully, Harmes is either one of either sub, emergency or lines up for Casey. I hope everything with Harmsy is OK with possibly family member passing away.

This.

Hope his personal circumstances are okay, but I think we look elsewhere going forward unless Harmes magically turns it on at VFL level.

He simply doesn't do the basics well enough, consistently enough and tries to be Petracca 2.0 too often.

I'm actually looking forward to adding a top 10 midfielder into our group at the end of this year, will be refreshing.

Thanks Freo!

Wouldn't say Bowey was immense at all....

He had 10 disposal for the night and played like someone who was overthinking it knowing that he spot was under pressure.

You’re right, immense is overstating it. But he hit targets, moved the ball quickly and won one on one contests. Salem got dinky kicks that led to turnovers and couldn’t move, compete or tackle to his usual standard. Bowey should’ve been able to move better and complete his role better, would he? who knows?  but I think an unfit Salem was one of many mistakes we made in last years finals.

Jordan (Sub)

*Jordon.

No way Jordon is is relegated to sub after the way he played last week. He was superb.

Outs will probably come from the sore/injured guys BBB, Hibbo and possibly Lever and they'll re-jig the midfield for Kozzie.

Don't worry layzie the dees don't do 100 point victories. 60 is the max IMO.

I'll take 60 this weekend.

He (Bowey) may not have had many possessions, but I can't recall his opponent/s doing much. Which is a significant part of a defender's job. He's a ripper.

I worry about Salem's future. Bowey and McVee may have overtaken him.

Any chance of a Blake Howes debut if Pig doesn't get up?

Tomlinson should be next in pecking order he has done everything to stay in contention.

Blake Howes had his best game last week but i would be letting him replicate that for few more weeks to be more AFL ready.

One thing for sure about this match is I'm not going to know who half the Eagles players are

Wow wee Bowza

Does Collingwood, when they draw what is seemingly going to be a comfortable game, go through this " how much do we need to beat them by  to have satisfaction?" rubbish from some supporters?

A lot gets said about how we never play WC in Melbourne but we gave up home advantage to play them in the NT in 2015 and 2019 so that's on us.

Me too. But I expect 36.

Layzie was talking about the winning margin, OD, not the crowd size.

At least we get to play them at our home ground - Optus Oval :)

I find that Bowza kick mesmerising. I just keep watching it over and over.

Now he's seen Goody moving the magnets, I bet he wants Petty's place in the forward line and is auditioning

Given how much joy they got out of multiple one point wins last year (or at least less than a goal in the dying seconds of the game) I'd say not!

T Mac and Kozzi   IN

Brown and Hibbo  OUT

Probably the same number.

There was a time during the current Melbourne cycle that goes back to before the premiership when the club was the toughest to beat in the fourth quarter. The Demons were not only hard to beat at any time but it was virtually impossible to get the better them when scores were close at three quarter time. It was only three or four years ago but they were fit, strong and resilient in body and mind. Sadly, those days are over. This has been the case since the club fell off its pedestal about 12 months ago after it beat Geelong and then lost to Carlton. In both instances, Melbourne put together strong, stirring final quarters, one that resulted in victory, the other, in defeat. Since then, the drop off has been dramatic to the point where it can neither pull off victory in close matches, nor can it even go down in defeat  gallantly.

  • CASEY: Footscray

At twenty-four minutes into the third term of the game between the Casey Demons and Footscray VFL at Whitten Oval, the visitors were coasting. They were winning all over the ground, had the ascendancy in the ruck battles and held a 26 point lead on a day perfect for football. What could go wrong? Everything. The Bulldogs moved into overdrive in the last five minutes of the term and booted three straight goals to reduce the margin to a highly retrievable eight points at the last break. Bouyed by that effort, their confidence was on a high level during the interval and they ran all over the despondent Demons and kicked another five goals to lead by a comfortable margin of four goals deep into the final term before Paddy Cross kicked a couple of too late goals for a despondent Casey. A testament to their lack of pressure in the latter stages of the game was the fact that Footscray’s last ten scoring shots were nine goals and one rushed behind. Things might have been different for the Demons who went into the game after last week’s bye with 12 AFL listed players. Blake Howes was held over for the AFL game but two others, Jack Billings and Taj Woewodin (not officially listed as injured) were also missing and they could have been handy at the end. Another mystery of the current VFL system.

The Demons head back out on the road in Round 10 when they travel to Queensland to take on the reigning Premiers and the top of the table Lions who look very formidable. Can the Dees cause a massive upset? Who comes in and who goes out?

Wayward kicking for goal, dump kicks inside 50 and some baffling umpiring all contributed to the Dees not getting out to an an early lead that may have impacted the result. At the end of the day the Demons were just not good enough and let the Hawks run away with their first win against the Demons in 7 years.
