That's why I was confused, they were getting everything and all dubious.

I would have thought the umpiring factor was a wash. No need for him to bring it up.

Interesting. I heard that more as disappointment with their lack of discipline giving those away, but either way I'm delighted we're provoking those responses.

Yes lack of discipline was the context but I felt he didn't need to add the bit about 'handing it to them on a plate' as they also scored from our frees/50's against.

The free to Rooey in the last was dodgy. The Swan had no prior opportunity...but they paid several against us that way as well.

Umpiring was horrific but it was poor for both sides. Umpire #32 clearly had his life savings on a Swans win.

The 50s they gave away were all clearly there. The dissent one you could argue was soft, but unsure if we can’t hear the Sydney player’s reaction… he could have swore at the umpire.
But the others were for a late hit and knocking the ball out after a mark. Both clear 50s. Not sure there is anything to complain about from Sydney other than ill discipline.

geez they are much more level headed than us. we’d be burning effigies of Goody!

maybe we need to be better?

At least there was no panic in our game day thread in the 2nd and 3rd quarter ...

Giving them credit.

While looking for updates I came across this banter:

  • Removing myself from the desire to absolutely thrash Melbourne this week for a moment, congratulations to Clayton Oliver, who is playing game 150 this weekend. Very few players can say they're a great of the game before they've even played their 150th game. One of my favourite non-Swans and an absolute freak. Hope it's a shocker for him.
  • Hopefully spends most of the game chasing our mids.
  • For me he is just about the best player in the game. An absolute monster in the contest and nearly impossible to stop.
  • Love the match up in this game.. the two current "kings" of the mids in oliver and tracc vs imo the fastest rising stars of the mids in the game in errol and chad
  • IMO he would be the best player in the game, and the only challenger would be his own teammate in Gawn. I suppose over the next 4-6 weeks we'll now find out how much one has to do with the other.

Not often Oliver gets praise from opp fans.  Good to see some Sydney fans honour him for his 150th.

But now that I've given them credit, i hope he burns their midfield, has his best game ever and leads us to victory.  Couldn't be a better way to celebrate his 150th than against a team that has the wood over us.

Thank you LH - my favourite thread :)

4 cheats = 4 umpires.  Clearly a one-sided view of the umpiring.

Even Longmire commented in his post game press conf that we got 2 goals from 50m and 3 from free kicks. Paraphrasing:  "Handed them 5 goals on a platter".  I thought poor form on his part even to mention that and also to not acknowledge how many they got and some of theirs were very dubious!

Sour grapes!

Silly Longmire, his players kept throwing the ball when under pressure and rarely the umps called those incorrect disposals.

Not to mention the constant appeals to the umpires that weren't called dissent

People who say umpires don't influence games have NFI.

Yep, I thought it was poorly umpired for both teams.

Bringing in a fourth umpire has only increased the inconsistencies and paying of free kicks that simply should not be paid.

I now wait until i have watched the replay, until I make comment about the umpiring, in the cold reality of the next day, I find the umps are usually right, and I was wrong making me feel like a bit of a goose,1 when you are at the ground it's easy to get caught up in the passion of the crowd.

The throwing the ball is a league wide problem for a while now.

It seems to me afl house is happy to let it slide as it keeps the play moving.

Watch any game and players will throw the ball in close to clear congestion. Rarely does it get called.

The several 50's they gave away were very poor discipline, which is Richmond like, not Sydney like.

  • Broke our back in the last. 11 goals is insane, pretty much only them and Collingwood could do that much damage in a last quarter.

What is this person on about given that we only kicked seven in the last quarter. Must have started drinking heavily midway through.

There were 11 scoring shots (7.4), that's all I can think of.

From the point where they got to within 6 pts late in the 3rd we piled on 11 goals - I assume that's what they're referring to.

Its a brutal business Jumbo, i don't think Horse, Papley and co were caring to much for us last year after beating us in a qualifying final and the carry on that followed.

I could carry on further but you get the jist.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
