Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Is there really a trend here?

You’re good and quick with the stats mate.

Can you tell me the last time we kicked 4 or less behinds in a game of footy.?

Our goal kicking was on point tonight, if nothing else.

Who do we think could come in from Casey?

I can only think of JVR, Dunstan, Disco and Pig.

After tonight we may see a couple of them in the list against the Swans.

Hoping Schache plays well tomorrow. 200cm & played a lot of ruck with the Bulldogs

Brayshaw, Viney and Langdon were extremely poor tonight.

Lost count the amount of times Viney and Brayshaw just completely coughed it up so easily.

Viney I understand, he was rusty and it’s not the strength of his game. Has to be better and hopefully will be (without ever being great).

Brayshaw can’t keep butchering it at half back whilst also playing slow most of the time. If he’s there to be a controlled short kicking sweeping player then he has to do that. No idea why we feel we need a slow chip kicking half back to begin with but if that’s the role then so be it.

The worst thing is how often Hunter and Langdon are free on the wings and don’t get used. And Bowey plenty of times too. I know we don’t want to get sucked in to playing the wings but keep the ball moving at speed and safely and things will open up ahead.

The alarm bells were ringing in the first few minutes… Clayton decided to allow his opponent to continue owning him as he had in the finals. Trac had decided the anxiety fumbles, which usually occur for 20 seconds here and there, would have a sustained presence! I could continue… McDonald more interested in getting through the game than providing any big man influence, Petty overawed by having to be May, Kossie pressure on the ball carrier painfully absent!

I knew I was missing someone , yes he could help at the ruck as JVR to a lesser extent.

i certainly found some of the umpiring confusing, i still dont understand how ruckman can grab the other ruckman and throw him out of the contest so that he can grab the ball. Brisbane does it Geelong does it an no free, why? The front on charge on Brayshaw was clearly a free at a critical time that was missed or overlooked.  i dont recall seeing brisbane being called for holding the ball or dropping the ball at all when their players constantly lost the ball in tackles.

So as the rule stands, in a grand final with 5 minutes to go and 1 point difference, if they can’t come back on the leading team wins. Might want to look at that rule.

GF is 2:30 start

Are you expecting the sun to be blocked out?

I get that Jaded but it's bordering on insanity to plan a whole structure around one guy, especially since we also just brought in a million dollar ruckman.

I know some players are impossible to replace. It hurts and it hurts bad but I'm not shutting this down after Rd 2, I can't, there's too much football season to go.

Dogs won the flag after Murphy went down, Tigers won the flag after Rance went down. I'm sure there's other examples, it would make it harder but not impossible.

Anyway, I'm assuming he misses half the season at absolute worst, didn't really look like an ACL but until scans confirm otherwise I'll assume it's a 6-8 week injury.

One thing I will say is that I much prefer us using the corridor and the central kick going inside 50. And what's interesting is that we don't seem to give up goals on slingshot, despite allowing three potential exit lanes with the central kick.

Gus' kicking always worries me off half back. He's such an inconsistent user of the footy that I want him keeping it simple if he's getting the ball so much.

Ideally, he's giving to a passing Salem, Bowey, McVee, May or practically anyone else in our defence. But he did get that central kick right to Brown at one stage, who took a good mark and using the corridor, we scored quickly.

Perhaps it was Max going off that rattled us, but even before Max went off we were fumbly and never really in the contest, despite the score at the time.

It was a truly incomprehensible display by the midfield. It's all well and good to have rotations and a midfield of Brayshaw, Viney and Harmes, but if you're going with that set up, you need to defend the front of the stoppage and that combination was dreadful, not helped by our rucking either.

Our inability to defend forward fifty stoppages, where Brisbane are usually ultra dangerous, cost is severely all night really, but particularly early on. How much did Max's injury play into this psychologically and personnel wise?

The umpiring was [censored] house from what I saw at the ground. Not sure what the free kick count was but it felt like bris 100 Melb 5.

Brisbane were red hot and we were a little bit off from the first bounce, dissapointing but not the end of the world, aside from the injuries, my biggest worry was how disorganised we looked post the Gawn injury, we have enough high quality leaders that they should be getting back on track faster than that.

I'm absolutely certain we will see a response against the Swans

Bit tough on Tom. Being asked to be a ruckman he ain't.

That's what makes the rest of that performance all that much worse.

We can play like that - we just proved it. We should play like that - We didn't. Why didn't we play like that? I don't know, but I'm not happy about it.

To give credit where credit is due - the Brisbane mids were in good positions to get possession off our rucks even when we won the tap outs. We were also horribly fumbly and Brisbane were just cleaner. I think Oliver has to be able to find a way to shake a tag or Goodwin has to protect him or make him take the tagger to parts of the ground the opposition doesn’t want him to go. I would be shocked if Oliver doesn’t get tagged like how Berry does a lot from now on. It’s worked twice on him, two games in a row from Brisbane. There were other parts of the ground where we played horribly, but Brisbane beat us fair and square in the middle. Purely outplayed and out coached in there.

We couldn’t get momentum until those last 12 minutes of play when we had nothing to lose and Brisbane had everything to lose. Which is Collingwoods entire 4th quarter game plan, they just put the foot to the floor, go on an all out attack and overwhelm the opposition because they play like they have nothing to lose. If you win you win, if you don’t you don’t. Nothing left on the ground.

Brisbane were red hot? I didn’t see that at all- it was a bit like Carlton last night - nothing impressive.

We were not just a bit off. It was off by a long way almost 2019 like. The signs were there before Maxy went off, but perhaps the game didn’t take shape and  we never really took the game on.

The finish will give them something to hold onto but deep down they’ll know it was the Lions switching off.

I didn't either. Well except for one thing, the clearances. They belted us in that area, plain and simple. They beat us clearly in an area that we usually always boss them in and sorry but that's not all down to us playing garbage. Lions did some things right.

Look we've beaten them in the last game we played them in. It only went for 12 mins but still a match.

This is like what I say to my Collingwood supporter mates to rile them up:

‘The 2010 Grand Final was a draw, you won the replay’

Just takes a little bit of the shine off that premiership.

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
