If that's the case ( and I am not certain that you are completely correct ) then maybe he should restart in the Casey VFLers. 

I actually think his comeback games from injury Vs Port in 2017 and I think In2018 vs Cats in the Elim Final were  very good.

Good teams have bad nights. It happens. Our top liners will not be as bad again. no need to over analyse or over think it.

Shake ourselves down, get back on the horse, prepare well this week and perform as we know we can against Sydney. If we deliver another insipid performance next week, then start pulling things apart.

Edit: And no changes this week other than for injuries (and May if fit). The same team needs to be given the opportunity to atone.

So many excuses and a lot of hand wringing. 

Personnel doesn’t lead to a performance like that.

Smashed in the clearances meant we were on the back foot all the time and Oliver and Viney kicking out of contest like it’s 2019 didn’t help. Angus at least won the footy and that kick to Brown that set up a Bowey-Chandler-Fritsch ‘3 second drill’ was great. Aside from Bowey, had little dare back there.

I have to stay i hate those pictures of injured players in the change rooms. If a cameraman came need me in a situation like that i'd tell them to F off.

Realistically once Gawn went down the entire preseason structures and game plans went out the window.

The psychological impact on ALL players was understandable and realistically a major impact that NO team could overcome.

I won’t be reading into this one too much, those midfield numbers are clearly an outlier and that’s exactly where the game was lost. 
 

Tmac isn’t competitive enough in the ruck, and I don’t think he does enough up forward as well. Time to give the boy JVR his chance. 
 

Petty had his most forgettable night, his turnovers resulting in goals tonight gave them so much momentum. Harmes can pack his bags and head to Casey for awhile. 

Showed good resolve to claw back percentage. That’s the type of thing the demons of old were not capable of so it’s one thing I’m proud of about last night. That’s it though.

Figure it out boys, if we see that again vs the swans I will hold grave fears for our September chances.

I still think Viney is best as the back stopper in the mid, but he looked off the pace and then he hadn’t played with Grundy at all so he had zero chemistry.

Will not happen under Goodwin. His mantra is slow the ball so we can set up our defense behind the ball, moving it quick and attacking goes against all of this. He will actually be pretty annoyed with the last 12 minutes!

Not entirely sure that's correct.

He went and met with Scott and Mahoney and when Melbourne got wind of it then we put a complete stop to any potential trade.

I believe Harmes was more then open for a trade more so to get midfield minutes. Hence why met them for an interview. 

He's had 2 games in a row playing significant midfield time and he's been poor on both occasions. This form has carried on from last year when he was dropped and made sub towards back end of the year.

If the likes of Jordon and Dunstan have standout games in the VFL today then his position in the team has to come under scrutiny.

Petracca talked about this in his video post match. Said they just took the game on in that last 12 mins and didn’t really care if it meant we lost by 70. watching Collingwood that’s seems to be their attitude all the time, just take the game on. When things aren’t going well, double down on taking the game on! Geelong added that flair last year also and it certainly changed the dynamic of the team. Seems to me we are not prepared to do that in the first instance and only prepared to do it on a break glass type of situation 

I agree with most of the comments here. Nothing went right for most of the night and when Max went down, no-one seemed to take control - despite the lads trying as individuals, this lack of visible on ground leadership was the worry. For the last 12 minutes, we may look back in September and say those 12 minutes defined top 2, top 4 or top 8. The season is a marathon, not a sprint and despite the smashing up to the blackout, there was some redemption after it. The mindset and performance vs Sydney will give a good indication how scarred we are.

It worries me that Grundy as our sole ruck took zero marks. Also Melksham had four touches.

Hopefully Max will be OK and we reset.

Not that it would've changed the result, but It's nights like these where the strengths of a leadership "group" of 4/5 players could've come to the fore, and been more attuned in that 1st quarter to keeping our collective minds on everyone playing their roles, rather than being confused and lost out there wondering about Gawny. Who even is our VC now that Viney is Captain?

A bit of calm wouldn’t go astray.

Our 2 most structurally important players are Gawn and May. Max allows us to do things other teams simply can’t - including setting up more aggressively at clearance. The other reason we can do that - Steven May. Lose the clearance and he wins the ball back for us.

Even the halfwits at Channel 7 said in the commentary last night that half way through the first quarter this was Fagan’s dream - No Gawn, No May. Imagine playing the Bulldogs without The Bont and Naughton, or Geelong without Hawkins and Cameron?

The psychological impact of Max’s injury was clearly very profound. We all know how we felt. Imagine how the players felt about their best mate who they see everyday 6 days a week? No wonder they were flat.

Last nights game a lot of things conspired against us. The most important thing was the way we regrouped and took control when given the chance in the last 10 minutes. That effort might have saved our season.

Jake Lever’s leadership was exceptional last night. He’s been brilliant this season so far.

Absolute garbage. We had a bad night compounded by the fact that the universe conspired against us. Salem, May, Gawn, and then greasy conditions that really suited them.

All we could do at the end was come out and give it our all. That could be the most important 10 minutes of footy we play for the year. Percentage will split the good sides at the end.

Daniher kicking 5 was outrageous, and will never happen again.  The team's head space when Max went down would have been difficult for Goody to manage.  We have leaders all over the ground and will bounce next week.
