Coleman is a massive out for them. He and Rich running and delivering off half-back are a handful. Speedy ball movement caused us defensive problems last year so less bounce off opposition half-back is good for us!

On the flip side we seem to have been training fast ball movement ourselves over the pre-season, so can do just as much damage in attack. Long may it continue!

Love the fast ball. Once Carlton switched tempo last night, they got on top of shaky Cats defence. Go quick and daring is a big plus imv.

@Josh As DeelightfulPlay said in the pre-game thread, we’ll be in Bay 213. Entering through Gate 8

Thanks very much for you help mate. Only tickets we could get are top their but above you guys at least, gate 8.

By red time in the last they'll all have left so I can bring kids down the bottom 😂

I really don't rate the Lions as I feel they are missing any genuine hardness.  They seem to be the very definition of faux tough guys.  When the pressure is on they go to water and lose their composure and discipline.  A good, preofessional showing by us and we win by 6 goals.  If we are ruthless, a 10-12 goal win is on the cards.

Is it going to be slippery tonight? If I recall correctly, the round 23 game was quite a dry deck. I’m hoping the humidity isn’t too bad again.

A Club born out of a Dead Carcass, a once proud club that the AFL threw in the Garbage can.
their other useless mistake was the Brisbane Bears…

From this pile of Pus… We have Brisbane

Bunch of lowlife snipers with a Clown at Full Forward

Wow... (Is there any team you like SWYL)

The relocation of the Swans and the Lions is probably the best thing the AFL ever did. Agree it was tough on their Melbourne followers

Everyone knows we probably still have two clubs too many in Melbourne but that fight is now dead

Engorged Onions Tourism Guide:

Brisbane 2023

For the discerning customer:  go on a pre game River Cat Pub Cruise - start at the dive that is The Hamilton Hotel, make you way to the River Cat public transport system and cruise for around 20 minutes on what is locally known as The Brown Snake and have a drink or 3 at the swanky Powerhouse Museum, with the hipsters and those reliving their youth.

Then onwards upon the water chariot, with a little something refreshing in your pocket, sitting on the back viewing deck,  as the sun sets, and then disembark at Mowbray Park Terminus...

Next, go on a soujurn, meandering with your legs through the parkland to The Pineapple.

Roughly 7 beers in now, head to The Gabba, sit and marvel at your team dismembering the parochial supporters, one heart at a time.

Is still one of footballs most glorious PT journeys...

Or it was in 2022...

What’s so good about the Statement “We can’t afford the Swans to Bottom out…” AFL Red Carpet

My take on tonight?

We win by 6 goals plus

Why?

  • We are in absolute peak shape at the moment, fitness and injury wise (salo being the one exception)
  • We seem to be in grate psychological shape
  • Can' speak to their fitness levels, but being hammered round one is not a great sign re: their psychological shape
  • They seemingly haven't addressed their two biggest issues - leg speed and a modern defensive system
  • We killed them for leg speed when we played them last season and in 2021- with the second half of the semi being the outlier when we were out of gas
  • We have added leg speed, they haven't and Coleman out hurts big time on that front
  • We know how to exploit their game plan (win contested ball) and our game plan matches up really well with theirs
  • They don't looked to have adjusted their game plan at all - whereas we have tweaked ours so they will need to do more tactical homework
  • One example of above is the decision to bring Foote into the side - considered plan or desperation?
  • We travel well
  • They are the ones under pressure, not us
  • We are a 4 goal better team

For punter, there are two bets that appeal.

The line is 4.5 our way (was 3.5 an hour ago). That's crazy. Way too low. Money for old rope

Kade Chandler is $34 to kick most goals. Good value

With Kossie out, Chandler will be our main crumber and will get his chances. if he can sort out his set shots he can snag 3 or 4, which might be enough with Fritter back in spreading the goals

Brisbane has changed a little from when its version of a big day out was heading into the Valley for lunch at the TC Beirne's Department store

Losing to a team that has Hipwood and Daniher as their key forwards would make me puke…impossible to find two flakier players

People seem to forget that the Lions pantsed us in a final last year. They've added Dunkley and Ashcroft.

Week 1 results often throw up odd results. I expect Lions to bounce back big-time. I expect us to win but it's 50/50.

It's strange that nobody is mentioning how big a loss Kozzie is.

Reckon we all thought the same about Fritsch last week but still won by 50.

I think Fritsch returning & BBB seemingly back in form has cushioned the blow.

Responding to Mr Leg's question in the closed thread ....

I would say a combo of his experience and as a key member of the defensive crew he would be able to add that experience & input/feedback during the half time break and possibly from the bench in game.

Obviously rather see him out there but a good chance Tomo stays in me thinks.

Mo i think that sort of goes without saying

Im with you, while i think we'll put up a decent show and should win, i don't think this will be as cruisy as some are suggesting on here

I don’t think anyone playing in the afl today could replace Kozzie.
I also hope the players are not as overconfident as a lot on here are. While I hope you are correct, I think it will be a mighty challenge for us.

Viney is  $41 for first goal each Q. reckon he’ll play fwd a lot tonight

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
