I have thought this for a very long time. The Injury list is worthless. Only comment I could find on Melbournefc is from mid Jan when Max. was out for a week or two. All other stories are about the girls during finals time. No wonder I seldom visit the site.

Yes, I would agree. Fitting Gawn/Grundy, Fritsch, TMac, and Brown isn’t tenable in my view.

Yeah its not like Gawn/Jackson, Fritch, Tmac and Brown kicked 20 goals in a prelim and a grand final before?????

Was just told the boys are about to run out at Gosch’s.

Got there at about 3.20 pm.

Max and Stafford were the only ones left. Passing it around and some goal kicking.

Katey Hore turned up and she said a few of the women were going to have a kick. Their not training yet.

To some extent touché, but the difference is that Gawn is more a fwd than ruck now and that may overbalance us.

Yes that (Gawny) needs to be watched but it's all about the sum of parts and the final result. We have enough parts to mix snd match centred around talls smalls and the best medium hybrid forward in the AFL as he proved in the GF.

And Harry Petty should not be discarded or forgotten. Add Joel Smith also.

Oh, boy! This time next week it’s on baby.

Jackson didn't chop his.

The challenge for them is getting the max from the two groups of players while trying to build on field cohesion after all the list and position changes in the off season.

I'm not the only one that thinks they will struggle with cohesion:-

bont-s-role

"Even [Bontempelli] admits the biggest challenge whenever he streams from a stoppage will be selecting which of his key forward options he kicks to, saying their ability to work in tandem is still being ironed out...There's probably a little bit for them to work through, in terms of them working together nicely..."

I would go one step further and say cohesion challenges also apply to their mids and defence.

Quite surprised Fritta is considered a walk up start considering his lead up to Round 1.

He’s done a full pre season up until the foot thing.
He also happens to be the second biggest goal kicker in the competition over the last two seasons. He’s a walk up start at every club in the AFL.

I haven't been to the footy for years, is GA still available on level 1?

Depends which games but generally yes behind the goals Punt Rd end and maybe forward pocket southern stand same end? Half the ground is MCC/AFL members and most of the rest of level is reserved members seating. If we're playing North or GWS you can sit anywhere, Collingwood it Richmond you'll be up on level 4.

Edit - and there's always standing room on level 1.

I must admit i didn't realize until the last couple of weeks how good a footballer Lachie Hunter actually is, getting him for a future 3rd round pick is incredible. He's a serious chance to be the best off season recruit of the year, he will not only add a huge amount to our team, but i think he'll take a lot of pressure off Langdon. teams did really hurt us by tagging Langdon at times. Lachie will make that much much harder

Or that he wants to look more like Goody and is staying.

Hunter has always been a very good player. He is a steal, as many of us have posted since the trade was announced.

He’s very smart, a beautiful short to medium kick and when committed a very good runner.

But don’t overreact to a couple of preseason games when he’s been desperate to make a good impression.

For one, we have to hope his commitment goes all year (and beyond). And his lack of burst speed and strength at the contest will both be tested at times.

He’s potential a great help for Langdon but we also have to be prepared for teams running Blicavs through the wing and needing Hunter to go back or forward or Langdon forward to get a taller wing. Hopefully the coaches have plans for that.

Dogs game is a must win.

We need to win 2 out of our first three. If we go 0-3 makes the season that much harder

In what world are we losing our first 3? Bar Sydney the others are easy beats. I'd be shocked if we don't start 3 - 0

Tough one to call, if you get there early enough you could be right. Level 1 Ponsford stand pocket/behind goals could be a goer as well.

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.
