My only issue with McKay is the cost. He signed a mega contract that we would essentially need to take on. Not sure he’s worth it.

Apparently we’re keeping an eye on Bulldogs pick 10, which is widely reported to be going to GC.

We’ve also been linked with a future 1st from Port (don’t think both of these could happen concurrently).

If either eventuates, we could easily send Blues a couple of first rounders for McKay whilst retaining pick 5.

I'm 50/50 on this.

Me too, in that he is deadset useless when the ball hits the ground and if he's not marking it, he's a bit of a liability in general.

However, Petty and McKay would be bloody hard to play against, particularly if we got the balance right at ground level.

I'd prefer others before McKay, but ultimately wouldn't say no to his marking and his scoring power.

Not against it (particularly if p5 is not part of the deal), McKay one of the few key forwards that has troubled Steven May in direct match ups in recent years.

May has owned Charlie, but McKay’s height and deceptive mobility has challenged Maysie. The only reason there’s any possibility of Carlton moving McKay on is that his kicking has been inconsistent, if he’s a dead eye, Blues would not be entertaining any trade.

The costing of it all will be huge.

He's contracted until 2029 and I'm not one to cash in all our chips on a bloke that misses a goal 10m out directly in front.

We need to continue to show that we are along adding young talent through the door otherwise the cliff will come quicker then people expected it to be.

What kind of response were you after? Father son is first preference over being in the Academy as long as Kalani agrees to wanting to the join the dees.

If there's a bid put in place we just need to make sure we have the accumulated points ready to go.

Think it was pretty obvious it was a light hearted joke.

We have also been linked to swans pick 11 as part of the Grundy deal. No doubt we would sending a second rounder back. I’m happy to be going for him if we hold pick 5.

Big challenge for Goodwin and co. This essentially means mini-rebuild. No more gifting games to plodders. Still can't get over McDonald playing in finals, no Woewodin in finals, and JVR being dropped for Brown. Have to start backing in recruitment eventually. Something tells me losing Bedford has hit home hard this finals series and they realise that talent isn't just going to stick around.

Banking on Tomlinson, Woewodin, Turner, Laurie at least to all be common place in the 22 next year. Could be a year out of the 8 but needs to happen.

I'm guessing some here want to believe this and it may be true but it's the same kind of thinking that made us put Schache as a sub.

Did we painstakingly build a list trading in May, Lever, Langdon, with a pick 2, 3  and 4 midfielder and a once in a generation elite ruckman.

Our list will never be this good again in our lifetime.

Sam Edmund and Tom Morris just confirmed on Trade Radio that there is absolutely no substance to Melbourne potentially in the market for Ben King, Aaron Naughton or Oscar Allan.

Edmund went on to explain that he was speaking to someone influential inside Melbourne and the focus will be blooding and giving the kids more opportunities at senior level.

I find that info disturbing! Richtank went out and got Lynch, Geelong went out and got Cameron, we are happy to develop our players is all well and good but, we need to land a GUN forward! PRONTO

Carlton played well with just Curnow as the main target.

McKay played his best footy when Curnow was out injured (in 2021).

DeKoning, Curnow and McKay not sure how that worked. DeKoning resigned.

I can see how this has some legs.

Harry would need to get his head right. Maybe he goes better when he is the main man.

That’s a whole lot of pressure to heap on Curnow in 2024, particularly with him being potted from everywhere about his poor finals series

The H McKay contract is reportedly $1M per year until end 2029

That's a lot of money

I’m not over the new EBA. Is $1M too big given the pay increases afforded to AFL players moving forward?

When the average player will soon make 500k it’s not that much.

Im not 100% sold on McKay either but McKay and a rookie is likely a better result than 2 x 500k players if you don’t have a mature key forward.

The only way there is anything to the McKay trade rumours is if Carlton have decided they need that money off their books, which is possible, but i'd say unlikely.

they'll think they can win the flag next year.

It’s harsh but reputations are made in finals.

Our star players are likely to have uplift clauses reflecting the new EBA. McKay may have one as well.

I have no issue with the dollar amount but tying up the money for 6 years plus draft picks to get the deal done.

In racing parlance.. prefer others... but they are not available

I’d honestly prefer Finlayson than McKay especially with that price tag.

Even my Carlton mates want him gone.

I work with a reasonably thoughtful Carlton tragic, their supporters have wanted him gone for 3 years running.

Surely that's a good sign that they are not all stupid, but are we?

IF there’s any truth to this there’s no way the Blues wouldn’t be asking for 5, 13 and a future first at a minimum

Surely there’s no way this gets done from either side… right? 👀

He's not worth 3 first round picks no Fuggin way, Id be giving them the following of the two, pick 13, future 1st rounder and or what ever we get back for Grundy hopefully pick 11.

Pick 5 should not be included in this deal unless we are getting something back in return, would rather draft a young gun mid with this.

That's a ripping deal for Carlscum and we are taking on his salary for 6 years.

Having said all this i would prefer Naughton over Mckay any day of the week.

Curnow did f all during the finals, i think it would be a massive mistake for Carlton to let McKay go.

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
